    Sound overload

Hi guys, im having a very weird problem. Whenever i play any type of sound on my PC (mp3's, games) it periodically slows down or skips or distorts. This is hightened if there is any type of load on my computer (uncompressing RAR's, opening limewire) I tried reinstalling the sound drivers and all that. No improvement. I upgraded from bios 1707 to 1901, still nothing. I heard somewhere the southbridge overloads and u gotta up the voltage to your sound chip. I dont know whether that is accurate nor how to do it. Anyone have any ideas?

    It's actually a memory-error...
    You can prevent it:
    In Bios go to advanced.
    AI Overclocking : manual
Memory voltage : 2.1V (at least, check max warranted voltage from your memory and put it at that voltage)
    MCH Chipset voltage : 1.55V

That should do da trick ;-)

What sucks the worst is that Asus says now that If You have a Core 2 Extreme(x6800 or QX6700) cpu You can not go above the default multiplier, Which Intel allows and Bioses from 1602 and up are against Intel Policy.

I'm running 1901, and I've noticed that my 3:4 mem divider won't POST. 4:5 and 2:3 are fine.

    Anyone else notice the same?

    Question AHCI driver install

    Geisha,

Tried to activate AHCI in Bios and that part went ok, but when computer reboted, it stated that a new PCI device was found and needs to install driver. Put in Asus CD and two Intel drivers were found. Tried to install first one and it said that it was not the one for this computer. Should I select the second driver? Or is there another one that should be used?

    Thank you

1901 is working fine for me. I'm just as stable as I was with 1707. Having said that, I'm not seeing any kind of improvements.

Still having a problem with my teamgroup D9GMH with this board. I'm having to run 2.35 volts just to be rock solid stable at 390mhz (3-4-4-9). I know this ram can do way better than that usually at lower volts. I can't even boot 1000 with 2.35v even at 5-5-5-15.

Anyone know the max voltage for this ram and also what is ok to run 24/7? This is the team 667 3-3-3-8 from tankguys.

If you're trying to activate AHCI on a system that already has WinXP installed, this is the only way you can: http://www.neowin.net/forum/lofivers...p/t457699.html

Try raising the vFSB on bios to 1.4. Worked for me in a similar situation.

    Hello,

I have a 6600ES. I thought the multiplier of a ES was unlocked. However, in the bios (1506, 1707) the multiplier is locked (greyed out).
Does anybody here with a ES know which bios doen unlock the multiplier, or is unlocking not possible? Thanks for the reply.

Start reading from page 1 and you'll find out.

Seriously, older bios versions have unlocked multi's for ES CPU's, don't know which versions though.

I'm not sure about the ES line of CPU's, but if you select one of the CPU options in the bios, you can unlock the multiplier downwards. Look around in the bios; I'm sorry I don't remember the option or what page it's on, but it's in the same area as Speedstep and Virtualization.

Sure, downwards is no problem with a 6600 (with a newer bios), but a upwards unlocked multiplier with my 6600es would be great. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...lies/smile.gif

More than likely, you'll suffer the same unfortunate consequences that Asus chose to apply for the Core 2 Extreme (x6800/qx6700), which is exactly that. No upward mobility of multiplier, only downward.

You'll have to do some searching through the thread to find an appropriately unlocked multiplier bios for the board.. It was one of the first and early ones, so start on page 1.

    Best of luck!

Thanks. However: page 1 does not specify which bios is specially suited for a ES. If i remember correctly, it was a bios before 0701, but which one? I do not want to loose c2d support.

quick question: somewhat related to the p5w

ok just bought my self a D9 but now i am worried about the heat that is being produced. i can't find any conclusive test that there will be a gain on buy the heatspreader. i am afraid to bump the voltage up on the p5w with efficient amount of cooling.

    Actually it's a bug in Asus's BIOS coding [ sigh ]
You can use any of the previously released BIOS with working upwards Multipliers [ earlier than v1602 ]
You should flash-back with EZ-Flash or AFUDOS 2.11 with the Full Flash parameter, else you'll still get locked multipliers

I ran XP on my current config. and now have Windows Vista Ultimate.... i want to install it clean to my raid 0 array. Here is what I have and the problem.

    Processor: Conroe X6800 @ 2.963Ghz
Motherboard: ASUS P5W DH Deluxe (1707)
Graphics: 2 Radeon 1900XTX in Crossfire Mode
    Memory: 4*1GB A-DATA DDR2-800
    Power: Silverstone 650W
    Harddrives: 2x 150GB SATA Raptors:RAID 0
    Harddrives: 1x 75GB SATA Raptor
    Cooling: Zalman CPNSxxxx
    OS: MS Vista Ultimate

I cannot get Vista to install on the Raid drives where WIN XP installed just fine. I'm trying to find 64 bit drivers for the Intel ICH7R raid controller but to no avail. Windows does not seem to recognize the drive.

I boot up the system with the new 64 bit Vista, get to the section to load raid drivers (note it is now very different than XP).

    1. windows does not recognize the current raid 0 drives telling me i have an invalid system volume. I have tried deleting the partition, creating a new one and formatting it. Deleting and Creating seem to work but Formatting 'appear's not to.
    2. i cannot seem to find the right intel raid drivers as I am 'thinking' it must read ICH7R and all i can find is ICH7.

Any ideas? what else am I missing?

    Update:

I went into the BIOS (1707), set everything to AUTO or enabled that made sense. Windows is installing as I type this. I broke the basic rule to start with the 'base' settings first. Only reason I was in that state was my previous install was working in WIN XP and my BIOS settings reflected the changes mentioned in this thread... if you're putting in a new OS... start from scratch on the BIOS too. hehe.

Tried 1901 last night, appears to be no different to the recent BIOSes (180x and 170x).

Still can't boot with SPD disabled and manual memory timings for my Cosair XMS2 6400 memory at FSB 400!

Temps in TAT and Coretemp are still a few degrees different as well.

I THINK 1901 HAS MESSED MY COMPUTER UP!

After updating the bios, it worked ok for a few days, now it won't get past "Detecting fourth IDE drive."

HOW CAN I UPDATE THE BIOS IF IT WONT EVEN LET ME GET INTO THE BIOS SETTINGS OR ANYTHING!?

Apparently it has messed up your computer - your caps-lock seems to be locked in place.

According to this thread, it's a known issue. Look on page 154, post 3827.
