Thank you everyone for the help. I will test my powersupply this weekend and see if it's putting out the right voltages. I have the combined one. My volt meter is a bit of a junker though. I'll have to come up with a better one. Any ideas on a decent cheap one? I have an 8800GTS coming today so that should stress the PSU a decent amount. I was also thinking about picking up an eVGA 680i board this weekend from Fry's and seeing how well that works. I do run Vista on my machine though and I've heard of some people having problems with that board and Vista playing nice.

I was also thinking it may be a memory problem, but I've tried many combinations of 6 different sticks and it still wont post with even 1 brand new stick anymore. But I will still run Memtest at stock and see what it finds.

Has anyone found the 1333 option (under normal clock) under CPU Frequency for bios 1901?

Hey DJSUB. First why the change back? You load the new bios and already want to can it. Why? I believe the 1804 to be a piece of crap but, to each their own. OK well if you have a floppy drive that would be a good thing. If you do then first take your P5WDH1804.ROM bios and rename it to
P5WDH.ROM and then load it to a floppy. Enter your bios and go to EZ flash 2
Plug in the floppy. Once in EZ flash hit enter and then the tab button to hi-lite the A: drive then hit enter. It will read the floppy and make sure all is OK then Flash it to the 1804 for you. If the 1804 is your favorite bios keep the floppy so you can flash it back cuz soon there will be a 1904 then 1907 to try.
I keep my 1707 bios floppy handy all the time.

Good luck remember to change the name of the file and look at your book if you get nervous. Remember when it is done it will reboot itself and then you will have to go back into your bios and reset everything to where you had it.

Hey lawrywild what do you think of the new bios any early first impressions. I am not even go to this one up at this point.

Has anyone with a QX6700 Core 2 Extreme cpu flashed to 1901 yet to see If the multiplier support is unlocked above 10? As I'm using 1601 until Asus unlocks It again.

    Heya WZ..

I just flashed and see no additional options in the chipset/cpu settings, so our hope for tRFC/tRD are squashed again. I'm not going to stress it too much right now, since I really want to get some Vanguard gaming in, but I'm disappointed that visually it's no different.

    Hi

I've just killed my board I think. Flashed to the 1901 bios from floppy, but it would not verify and would not revert to the old bios (1801).

The pc will not boot now. Is there any way to restore the bios or is it RMA time??

I have tried clearing the settings with the jumper.

    Help!!!!!

i already tried renaming the files to p5wdh.rom & flash.
even reflashing 1901 with asus update & when i tried to revert to old bios same message appears. if u use afudos or ezflash it will search for updated bios or else u cant flash ur mobo.
we need a bios does not searching for updated one

1901 is always searching for updated bios.
this is a warning! dont flash ur mobo with this bios
you cant go back to the previous one.
i already tried asus update, afudos & ezflash without any luck

Wow, it looks like you would do better calling the bios department and paying $5 for the update on a bios chip...

Yea, I'd like to know how they managed to make an upgrade to 1901 a 1-way street.

Lucky for me, I have a couple of spare chips with older BIOS on them, so I can pop one in and reflash to 1701, but that means a trip inside the case I could do without.

1901 refuses to accept my BIOS changes, and just keeps asking me to fix the checksum error. Only if I hit F2 to load defaults am I allowed into Windows. Same crap with a previous BIOS, but now I'll have to perform surgery to get out of it. Apparently, I'm still at my usual OC though.

I realize 1901 didn't make it to the Official Downloads section, and last time I talked to a Tech at ASUS he told me to NEVER flash the BIOS unless it was advertised to fix a problem I actually had, but this still seems like someone is pulling an early April Fools joke...

You can return to a prior version from 1901 by using afudos211 on Asus's ftp site. I used it to return to 1601.

And BTW, 1901 does NOT fix the multiplier problem.

So you cant even get back in the bios menu? If you can then it's possible to reset back to the original bios from booting with installation disk. Otherwise you have to ask asus for a bios chip and swap it out.

i had a swiftech mcx159-cu on it, it performed about 10c better than stock measured with a probe. Now I have a Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II and it performs even better.

I just zip tied a 40 mm fan to the NB and have the extreme spirit on my SB. The fan on the NB works wonders and helped immensely in OCing. You don't necessarily have to replace the heatsink on the NB but actively cooling it was my choice.

DO NOT UPGRADE TO THIS BIOS!!! IT'S WORTHLESS AND WILL MAKE YOUR BOX UNSTABLE AND LOWER YOUR OVERCLOCK!

Thank you. Off to try to salvage 1707 back using this newer ver of afu dos.

Damn. 2.21 didn't work, and now that I scrolled up, the poster said 2.11. I'm too exhausted for tonight and will hopefully be successful in downgrading tomorrow. I was hoping for more stability and a possible higher memory clock, and all I got was the same thing that i'm getting used to with these past few bios releases; instability. What a shame.

Can anyone else verify that 2.11 afudos does downgrade plase ?

    1. No one 'forced' you to upgrade?

    2. This BIOS is not 'official' and is only seen on ASUS FTP.

    3. Use at 'own risk' policy I would think.

    4. Always let the 'silly' people test before jumping in with big feet.

LOL! - ya'll sound like a bunch of limp wristed hayseeds...

Both ASUS FLASH BIOS Utility (in 1901) and AFUDOS 221 did not work when trying to revert back from 1901.
    - error message said some silly nonsense like: "firmware older than motherboard...."

AFUDOS 217 worked for me, reverting from 1901 back to 1707.
    - FTP: ftp://dlsvr02.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/f...FUDOS_v217.zip
    - also uploaded to: http://premium1.uploadit.org/bichi007//AFUDOS217.zip

Also, had no issues nor improvements with 1901 with my sissy QX6700 OC of 3.0G
    - did notice ASUSFlash utility inside BIOS seemed to find flashdrive much quicker than previous versions.
    - going back to 1901, after testing "retro-bios...."

No problems here with 1901 bios. With 1707 i got unstable in 400x9 and 2.20 vdimm. I needed 2,25 vdimm. With this bios and 2,20 vdimm is fully stable.

I hope for advanced timmings in new releases.

    Bye !
