that its faster in rendering we already knew. The power consumptions is
the main problem of QFX atm, and what's really interesting is that the
platform eats 190W in XP32 and 61W under Vista

though the platform has a bright future

Spin indeed... QFX @3GHz is slightly faster than C2Q @2.66GHz in a handful of 64 bit rendering apps and suddenly QFX is "far better for rendering". However, to get ~10% better performance in those few apps consumes more than twice as much power, generates massive amounts of heat and the performance edge quickly disappears when you OC the C2Q but the power consumption remains relative. OTOH, as Alayashu just pointed out, the power consumption of QFX isn't nearly so bad if you let your QFX system idle in Vista. I don't know who would spend all that money to build a QFX system just to let it idle in Vista but to each his own I suppose...

IMO QFX is a promising niche platform in need of 65nm CPUs. It's also clearly not a gaming platform but rather a very specialized workstation platform that can also play games at very high resolutions thanks to it's SLI capabilities. OTOH, I don't see why a C2Q or V8 rig with a single 8800GTX wouldn't fill the same role just as well.

That is 190 W without CnQ and 61W with C'nQ

    what board did you get?

Hehehe.....sounds like the setup I'm planning to run. Just waiting on Fugger for the board. I would have got the board myself last week, but he told me he'd be getting it this week. I may meet him @ Nvidia today to pick it up though.... I've had my rev.F Opties for over 2 months already - just waiting for the best board to run them on

What are the physical dimensions of a LGA1207 cpu? Is the package the same size as the PGAs? (40mm*40mm)
AMD doesn't share LGA1207 functional datasheet.
Can't find exact numbers with Google either...
You were not supposed to see this.

Hay I really like a power hog. Where its so extremely powerful i see my power box meter just fly around. Now thats showing real power and speed felt and seen. Nothing Intel s C2D or C2Q can do (now since its so power effecent. :/) Intel can never do that anymore. Those where the good old days. =P

Ah? The only update I have is that the ninja heatsinks should arrive by this friday.

Another update I have is that I am using 2000rpm fans instead of 1000 rpm ones and I lowered the overall temp by 5c.

Let me tell you this ...

It was NOT pleasant moments for me when I was installing those two. I've earned so many skin cuts that it wasn't even funny.

    BUT -

    Overall of 10c dropped.

Ah, darn me. The fan wasn't spinning.

This is how it should be.

    This is at full load.

Warm air from cpu0 blows into cpu1. So, temp for cpu1 is always slightly higher.

    ah nice!

No point in sticking to 13x multi. use 14x!

Edit: Btw, wouldnt performance go up a bit with 2 more sticks of ram so both cpus have dual channel?
