    Tuniq vs Infinity Round two!!!

    ORIGINAL THREAD

alright guys, after having many people complain about the test not being fair...I did a few things to make this more of an apples to apples comparison. Im shocked how much of an improvment the tuniq can obtain from lapping, extra fans, and adding some thermal paste around the top of the base. Here are some images:

INITIAL Lapping Process: the finish was perfect except for two small areas which barely come in contact with the cpu that no metter how much I lapped, they wouldnt sand smooth. Im pretty sure they didnt make much difference though...the image does NOT reflect how the finished heatsink looks..

I popped the top off and smothered thermal paste everywhere. This picture shows where its probably having the greatest effect. I added some more later.

Made sure the mount was super tight, both the bracket & motherboard are bending from the pressure.

Added a yate at full speed for the case exhaust this time, and taped on the same at the front of the tuniq.

when the tuniq fan was at is lowest setting, the two yate loons made the noise comparable to the modded scythe infinity. The verdict?

    TIE

this is with the tuniq fan rulling @ full, in addition to the yates.

looks like both coolers offer the same performance once modded. The full fan speed of the tuniq is WAAYYY louder than I can stand, so in order for it to perform well at low speeds, additional fans are needed. Hope this cleared up any skepticism from my oroginal review.

idk, fills the gaps.... I dont think it does much, but I did the same to the infinity so I think it would only be fair if this one had the same mod done to it..

It doesn't make a big difference. Probably couldn't even measure the impact.

I was laughing when I saw that paper tape holding the fan on LOL. But good job man. I had a pretty strong feeling they were equals.

I wasn't sure what that was either. I was starting to think he posted some wierd x rated cooler fetish pics. I was about to say he's taking this too far and may need some professional help.

HAH, well, at least on the infinity, I filled in sime gaps between each heatpipe so at least thermal paste could aid in mimicing a more or les "solid" base. I would solder it if I could... It probably didnt make a major difference on the tuniq, but it seemed like the right thing to do on the infinity.

well im back on my scythe again, 1.36vcore, 3.2ghz, idles at 29c with both yates undervolted. I can't hear my pc... I would still pick the scythe over the tuniq for its optimization for low cfm fans. Still waiting for thermalright to come out with something better than the ultra 120.

I think the Coollab liquid metal can fill the gap nicely. You may still need some ceramic to seal the liquid metal.

How about melting some silver solder on it? You can get it at radio shack for about $4. Then use a small file from a hardware store to get rid of the globs, and pretty it up a bit.

hmmm, how hot is that stuff? It probably cools down too fast to fill the gaps. It would solidify in the wrong places... I hear that if something very hot comes into contact with the heatpipes (hotter than a hot cpu lol) they might explode! (hopefully with lots of fire & destruction so it would look cool )

Hmmmmmm... I see your point. But if its done with a soldergun one thin stripe at a time, I don't think it would be enough to cause that problem... would it? As long as he was careful and kept the gun's tip away from the heatpipes, I'd imagine.

    Noctua VS All

Noctua I think is a fantastic cooler. Solid mounting (STOCK) Incredible cooling, and quiet as you could ask for.

Lets get some of these on a consistent bench and see how they do with push/pull and mods vs the Tuniq!
