    That's a really nice overclock...

I have the same ram and can't get me e6400 stable over 425 FSB....sigh. Well, you've given me the impetus to tweak some more....

if you do not delete the Raid array and you use the same raid chipset that the first array was created on, then your data is going to be there as long as you do not format the raid array (drives).

    EZ flash 2 Utility + Alt + F2

    Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can let me know if their EZ flash utility works with the later BIOSs. I bought this P5B-D a couple of weeks ago and flashed the bios to 0804. I used the EZ flash utility from the original BIOS to flash to 0804. Then the 1004 BIOS became available, and I tried to use the easy flash utility by pressing Alt + F2, which then asks me for a password (I just press enter if I did not set one) and it goes straight into Windows XP instead of the EZ flash utility.

In the bios tools menu, I do not see the EZ flash option which used to be there with the original BIOS that came with the board. So I am wondering if this is something they removed with the later BIOS (0804 and after) or if this is just a glitch. I had to flash from 0804 to 1004 using the latest version of ASUS update. It worked, but that was the first time I have ever flashed a BIOS in windows, and I would rather use DOS or the built in update utility next time.

My system is stable and I am not overclocking.

    Help - P5B-Deluxe random reboot

New PC based upon P5B - Deluxe .. alll new components

CPU : E6600 cooled via Scythe Infinity
    Memory : GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit - VDimm lifted to 2.1v - Running 4 4 4 12 as per Geil website requirements
    PSU : OCZ GameXStream 700w
    OS : XP Professional SP2
    GFX : Connect3D ATI Radeon X1950 XT-X SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR4 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
    Drive C : Western Digital Raptor 150GB WD1500ADFD 10,000RPM SATA 16MB Cache - connected to sata 1 port
    Drive D & E : 2 * Western Digital Caviar RE2 500GB 5000YS SATA-II 16MB Cache - connected to Sata 3 & 4 ports
    DVD : Pioneer DVR-111DBK 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter

BIOS is 1004 .. I know its not Backward compatible but I am trying everything

PC Runs 2 instances (one on each core) of Super PI to 32 Million without a problem.. I know that's not really stress testing it but I *think* its not a CPU / Mem issue

    Runs Memtest86 without a problem

However randomly, which I *think* is related to LAN activity it just crashes . no BSOD just blank screen and reboot ... The reason I say it seems to be related to LAN activity is it seems to crash after loading a browser or IM client or staring a Windows Update or a file share or application which would access the LAN.. but its completly random ie after a reboot do the same thing again and everything works.

There does not seem to be any useful data in the windows event log either

I am using LAN port 1 running "generic Marvell Yukon Chipset based ethernet controller" Driver is yk51x86.sys version 8.56.1.3 which came on the ASUS CD

I found that the V8.56.7.3 drivers on the ASUS website to be "even more" unstable

Any Ideas ??? I am at a loss at the moment

wellcome to XS . If you dont have problems using 0804 dont flash to a newer one it doesnt woth . If you have problems using 0804 then dont be arfaid to flash bios during windows session , use the latest asus update utility - download the bios you want and update from a file using asus update utility
    good luck

I will also add 1004 bios to blacklist, cause lot of ppl having issues with it, so its for daredevils and adventurists only.

So what is with the new Jmicron drivers?

    Asus has posted

    V1.17.6.4 2007/01/29 update
    OS Vista 32bit / Vista 64bit
    Description RAID_JMicronJMB36X11764_Vista.zip
JMicron JMB36X RAID Controller Driver V1.17.6.4 for Windows 32bit/64bit Vista.(WHQL).
    JMicron JMB36X PATA Driver V1.0.0.0 for Windows 32bit/64bit Vista.(Non-WHQL).

    and also

    Version V1.17.8.1 2007/01/29 update
    OS Vista 32bit / Vista 64bit
    Description RAID_NonIDE_JMicron_JMB36X11781_Vista.zip
JMicron JMB36X RAID Controller Driver V1.17.8.1 for Windows 32bit/64bit Vista.(WHQL)

so I assume the first one is for people without SATA drives...maybe?

    No explanation anywhere really.

I also read about upping some frequency.

Is there a guide that discusses these things, or is it just continue reading through all these posts. Thanks for the help - just switched over from being a long time AMD builder to try out the Core 2 stuff.
There is no guide that I know of... sorry. I was a long time AMD user too. I haven't had an Intel CPU in probably 8 yrs. A lot of things changed since my last build too.

I'm no expert but so far I have my drive hooked up on ICH8 NCQ. I've been told that if you install XP SP2 you can safely go back install NCQ drivers. I downloaded the NCQ drivers off Intel's website and installed using F6 method. So far so good. The drivers installed ok and I have xp running.

Btw you don't have to run NCQ. I've read a great many people just run there SATA drives in IDE and don't find NCQ worth the effort. I just installed it to learn something new.

yeah me niether and going from 0910 to 1004 was able to tighten some of the sub-timings on these OCZs so better for me.

No idea what the wall I hit at 460 is, no way to find out. Though since the ram and motherboard have proven them selves more than able at 450 I wanna pick up a e6600 or e4400 now.

OK, so I am wondering if the alt + f2 during POST actually works with the later BIOS (0804 and 1004). The reason I ask is, even though my system is stable, I am wondering if the alt + f2 is just broken in the later BIOS. If not, then perhaps I should flash again.

    Thanks.

I have recently installed windows on stock setting, then I went in to bios and put CPU frequency from 266 to 400 for kicks, now I can't go into bios.

is there a key sequence for for default setting during power up or did one of my component just went caput?

    thanks.

nvm, just read the above post and saw it. alt f2 worked

OK, when you say it worked, do you mean you actually got into the menu to browse the USB stick, hard disk, etc., to select a BIOS ROM to flash from? What BIOS version are you running at?

The reason why I am asking this strange question is because when I press Alt + F2, it prompts me for a password and after I enter it it just boots straight into Windows instead of giving me the DOS based file menu to locate the filename.ROM to flash. Also, I believe the EZ flash option was available in the BIOS tools menu when the motherboard game with the original BIOS.

I am at BIOS 1004 now, but the Alt + F2 option issue started when I flashed from my original BIOS (I think it was 0507) to 0804.

So if someone is at BIOS 1004 and cannot see the file menu after they press alt + f2 during post, then this is a BIOS issue and my system is fine. However, if someone does see the file menu after pressing alt + f2 and is running bios 0804 or 1004, then perhaps my bios chip needs to be flashed again or there are some other issues going on with this board.

    Thanks.

    4 x 512mb of ram = Problem...

    Guys,

I bought a second 1 gb kit of OCG gold XTC DDR2-800...

Long story short, using any one of the 1 gb kits individually works flawlessly in any dimm, but using both kits together will fail Orthos within seconds.

I've tried upping the ram voltage, the FSB term. voltages, etc.

    Using bios 1014.

Any suggestions? (I'm going back to 0711 or 0910 in the meantime).

    Cheers

I have no idea what you are talking about, i held down alt-f2, then power it up, it said "overclocking failed" on the screen, then i was able to enter bios. before the alt-f2 i get a blank screen, nothing works. i am on bios 302 or something like that. i just built the pc like 2 days old, hasn't done anything yet.

I was referring to page 4-5 (ASUS EZ flash 2 utility) in the user manual. That file menu you see there is what used to happen with the original BIOS. After I flashed to a later BIOS (0804), it no longer works. So I guess this feature is broken now.

Yup, like I said in my post, all dimms tested.

However, seems the problem was solved by lowering the Vdimm, strangely enough... Maybe the board was putting out too much voltage to try to compensate for all 4 dimms being populated, and adding Vdimm was detrimental.

Orthos stable with my previous OC now.

    Thanks anyways

I'm setting this system up this weekend and I would REALLY appreciate it if someone would tell me how to configure the more important and obscure BIOS settings:

    E6400 / P5B Deluxe / AC Freezer 7 Pro / Antec 900
    2GB Corsair XMS2-800C4 / X1950XT 256MB

Basically, I'm looking to hit 3.2GHz while keeping my RAM square at 400MHz (8 x 400 = 3.2GHz, memdivider 1:1). Looking for tips on how to set this up in the BIOS in the most stable way.

I have one IDE DVDRW I'm bringing with me and one brand new SATA DVDRW so I'm curious about how to get IDE DMA working properly.

Am I going to need a floppy drive to enable NCQ?

Basically, if anyone has any general tips for a system like this, please please please share.

    How does this look?

I have air cool, what should I set my:
    FSB term Volts
    NB v Core
    SB V core

I have my PCI Express frequency set at 105 is it still safe to overclock the video card with software?

Thanks for your help in advance

i missed that statement tested in all dimm slots...sorry

i think the OCZ is a different breed of memory when it comes to high vdimm.
