Well, since my friend was upgrading his cpu, ram, cooler and video card, I asked him if I could borrow his new tuniq when he got it for testing purposes. He said yes, so now I dont have to buy one for testing. This is the MOMEMT of truth for some people here. Here, we find out if all the work I put into modding my scythe infinity was worth it.
The goal of this experiment was to see if I could modofy the Scythe Infinity to be better than the tuniq at the same noise level. This is important to me because anyone can slap on two 220cfm delta's on the infinity and have the best air cooler, but kill his/her ears at the same time. So the noise level of two yate loons at roughly 1300rpms is 30dba. the full 2000rpms of the tuniq fan gets around 40dba. The fan controller on the tuniq was a bit odd. The rpm's didnt smoothly increase or decrease with the roatation of the knob. 60% of the dial will give maximum speed. I dont know why it does this...but Here are the settings I measured the speed at.
The low speed setting gave roughly the same noise as two yate loons. I still tested medium and high fan speed since I wanted to see the max performance this cooler could yeild. If the speed was turned any lower than *low* it would be almost too silent, and probably would barely spin. So I didnt test anything lower.
When I was installing the tuniq, one of the screws decided to snap so I used the screws I mounted the infinity on the tuniq. Everything is screwed in until the bracket bends, and the motherboard is bending as well, maximum pressure everywhere.
Here are some pix of the tuniq with the modded infinity:
Alright..enough talk, lets get to those temps...
temps measured using TAT, dual sp2004 load, 65f ambient.

SO! Based on the results, the tuniq pretty much gets its A55 handed to itself, especially when pumping high amounts of heat into it. Im feeling pretty good right now..beating a tuniq at full blast with something MUCH MUCH quieter.
Well...thats it for me tonight, hope you have all enjoyed the destruction of the mighty tuniq tower.![]()
