Yea that's very true. I could actually boot my elpida all the way up to 2.35v but couldn't boot @ 2.4... 2.35v started to bring down the max clocks.

    These were 512mb sticks too.

Ok cool. But I won't end up with burnt Elpida chips at 2.4 will I? Lol. I'll report back on Friday since it is coming from Tennessee and not their California warehouse (damn).

Hello, this is my first post but I've read most of the topics (as much as possible) in my search for the best 'bang for my bucks'
Although I've read that micron chips are the way to go when wanting the highest Mhz they cost way too much here in Europe.

The cheapest pair of 2Gb i found was around 400$, and that is just a bit too much for me
I'm able to go up to a max of 325$ if i stretch it.

I've searched for 1 kit of the 'best' available manufacturers, leaving out the ones that aren't sold or are way too expensive:

    Crucial Ballistix pc6400 450$+
    Supertalent pc 6400 450$+
    Buffalo not available

    All PC2-6400U 2048MB DDR2 kits:

    Patriot CL4-4-4-12 (PDC22G6400LLK) ~ 260€ = 340$
    Corsair XMS2 CL4-4-4-12 (TWIN2X2048-6400C4) ~ 240€ = 310$
    GeIL 2048MB CL4-4-4-12 (GX22GB6400UDC) ~ 220€ = 285$
    G.Skill CL4-4-4-12 (F2-6400CL4D-2GBPK) ~ 220€ = 285$
    OCZ Plat XTC Rev.2 CL4-4-4-15 (OCZ2P800R22GK) ~ 220€ = 285$

I was going for the OCZ because I saw Kemo6600 advising it to someone else in this topic but the price differences are so huge that I though I could ask it anyway

For anybody who might be interested, I search for the memory in Germany through this site: http://geizhals.at/eu/ (just insert the item code in the upper left box and press enter)

I have made good experiences with Cellshock 6400. They are more expensive than your choices, but have Micron D9GMH

If you don't want to overclock very high, G.Skill NQ are cheap and will do the job. At K&M Elektronik in Germany 2 GB are around 170 €.

Cellshock sticks cost 280€ ~ 365$ but have Micron on them

But I can't find the G.Skill NQ at 170 ... i see them only at 190€ (have they just gone up )
That would have been my choice , paying 100€ extra for Microns just doesn't seem worth it

IMO it is not worth it to spend much on the memory if it is out of your budget form the 5 kits you posted my vote goes to Corsair second vote goes to the OCZ
    BTW those prices including VAT

Not really Out of my budget but they would change my CPU choice.

If I get those Cellshocks I would take an E6300 (cheapest Core2Duo) and also the one that oc's the best.

For one of my 5 options I would take the E6400 cpu.

If I get cheaper sticks for around 170 that overclock just a little (maybe 450Mhz) (if I can find them at that price, preferably the G.Skill NQ ones) then I would buy an E6600.

Each option cost me around 460€ ~ 600$. (And yes all prices I refer to are incl VAT)

I kinda prefer the last option because I think it would be the 'fastest' choice but i'll have to wait until the memory drops again.

If you gona use stock cooler then the E6300 is enough, after market cooling E6400 is much better (higher chance for 3.6+GHZ) and for gaming you won’t notice the difference

Thumbs down Just found your Memory thread

I have just purchased a set of T800UX2GC4, Super Talent memory based on the many reviews on their website. I was truly disappointed to find out that the memory supplied for the reviews and the memory they actually sell does not use the same Micron chips. Misleading advertising.

I cannot return the memory without losing $50 on the return. I plan on upgrading to a C2D E6600 soon. I have been waiting on new 650i/680i motherboards from Gigabyte, MSI and possibly DFI. (Currently a DFI UltraD user). I really want a SLI board and that's the reason for the wait.

Should I return this memory for some Ballistix?

So you got it and not using it, try to sell it in a forum or to one of the local guys to minimize your lose (20$ max loss) if you cannot sell it just keep it , it is not that bad

We haven't changed the chips on that part from Micron to anything else.

    Buffalo Technology USA

I am in the market for some DDR2 800mhz and if this has the micron chips as you say I will buy it
Mine are ELpida and can verify purchase date and retailer. If i am supposed to have D9 chips i want an RMA!

I was thinking about returning my GSkill ddr2800 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16820231065). I can rma for no charge at newegg. I was considering maybe picking up 2x1gb Corsair 6400C4. Right now I have a e4300, but plan on getting either the e6420 or e6320 when they are released in a month or two. Do you think it would be worth the change? Is there a bettter option for around the same price?

    thanks

Maybe some kind of deal on price? Maybe some rebranding? I know as soon as i bought mine the next week the price went up. Elpida or the psc chips on MY OCZ6400 platinum do not play nice with my ICFX3200.

I currently am running this GSkill ddr2800 ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231065
    with a e4300.

I will most likely be switching the e4300 out for either a e6420 or e6320 when they come out. Considering that I will be getting one of those cpus and I am able to exchange the GSkill memory for free do you think their is anything better at newegg than the GSkill F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ for under 320 or so.

I was considering getting the Corsair 6400C4 instead of my current GSkill ram.

hope that clears it up. I am just worried that when I do switch cpus in a couple months I won't get a decent o/c because this GSkill doesn't seem to want to go over 390.
