God this board is a piece of ..Flashed with the 2.40 bios and get the no mac address in cmos or lan error.
Flashed it back to 1.60 andd it boots fine.
Re flash 2.40 and it works fine.
Only trouble is every time i install ATI drivers for my X800XTPe it gets past the windows loading screen then just hangs on a black screen with the mouse pointer doing nothing for absolutely ages!!!!
So i have to revert back to previous settings with no ati driver.. which means no game playing"!!!!!!!!
Wish i never went back to intel after only using amd for so many years... piece of !!!!!!!!!!!!!11

cpuz says PT880 pro revision 0.
    NB says PT880 Ultra.
DDR ram 300 FSB for 2.71 gig out of a
    E4300 stock 1.80 gig timings are 2-2-2-6 T1
Nice board I am very happy with that result.
Cant wait to get some DDR2 800

Using a CNPS 9500 LED low rpms silent mode.

NB = Northbridge. Its the thing under the aluminum heatsink in the middle of the motherboard. Allows the CPU to "talk" to the memory and communicate to other devices.

Thanks, wasn't aware of the shorthand.

Rad2, so CPUz is detecting it as Pro even though it's an Ultra? According to this CPUz can id the Ultra - which version are you using?

I thought this mobo only used a Pro chipset?

The 775Dual-Vsta uses the Pro or Ultra (looks like some of the recent boards use the Ultra chip).

The board that replaces it, the 4CoreDual-Vsta is supposed to be using only the Ultra.

At last!!!!! i finally have my graphics card installed and working.!!!

Was looking around for a new vga bios but the only Asus one i could find was the one already flashed to my x800xtpe so i thought i would try a power color as they are always pretty good.
When comparing the version numbers i saw the power color was quite a bit dsiffrent.

    asus ver009.002.001.002
    power color ver009.004.001.013

Flashed the bios installed the drivers which gave a error but installed ccc anyway it booted into windows the installed the bit it crashed on in the first place.

So if anyone else has this problem try a newer vga bios or diffrent manufacturer bios.

Do you mean the latest CpuZ now tells you it's an Ultra? Do you have a screenshot?

Did a quick overclock test with my E4300 bumped it up to 266 fsb so it is the same as a E6600 and left it dual sp2004 testing for a few hours.
Didnt throw out any errors and both cores were around 55c.
Now to see how far this board can go without volt mods!!! on stock cooler

I'm having no luck with my 805D on the 4CoreDual. On my Asus P5P800SE I had it running at 3.31GHz with stock voltage/cooler & DDR400 for 6 months (until the mobo died). The exact same setup is only stable up to 2.9GHz on the 4Core, using either the same memory or DDR2-533 sticks. It won't even post past 3GHz.

Tried most combinations of relevant BIOS options (apart from the advanced stuff), slowing down the memory, the PCI-Ex at 100, 114, in sync, upping mem/AGP voltages, nothing seems to work...

Here is a different spin for why Asrock discontinued the 775Dual-VSTA in favour of the 4CoreDual-VSTA from (atlr) in a different thread.

shows that the 775Dual-VSTA already supports the quad cores when updated to at least the 2.10 BIOS.

Perhaps it's just a name change to make things super clear?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That Asrock link now shows the 775Dual-VSTA does NOT support quad core. I think the reason the 775QuadCore-VSTA was creeated is the same reason that Dell updated the XPS 700 to 710. The quad core processor has hardware design requirements that the 775Dual-VSTA may lack.

    Quote from this Dell blog
    http://direct2dell.com/one2one/archi...1/15/3573.aspx

"As most of you know, Intel's Core 2 Extreme QX 6700 Quad-core processor will ship soon. Several of you have asked if this new processor will work on your existing XPS 700 motherboard.
    ...
Here’s what our development team had to say. Based on Intel’s current design guidelines, the Intel Quad Core Extreme Processor should work on the XPS 700 motherboard. However, Intel revised the design guidelines for boards to be compatible with this quad core processor to decrease the signal impedance of the front side bus. This is different from the board specifications on the XPS 700. Also, Intel specifies that the Quad Core Extreme Processor needs 4 GTLREFs (GTLREF is reference voltage to the CPU front side bus to recognize signals as high or low for data coming to the bus) and the XPS 700 board has only two references. Intel’s revised design guidelines for the signal impedance change and the requirement for two additional GTLREFs to support its Quad Core processor caused Dell to make system-level board changes that have been implemented with the new XPS 710. With those changes, Intel’s new quad-core processors are fully supported on the XPS 710.

    Here are the legal disclaimers:

Intel quad core processors may have stability/life expectancy issues when used on the XPS 700 because it lacks the required GTLREF support, or they may not work at all.
If you attempt to upgrade an XPS 700 with an Intel Quad Core Extreme Processor, we can’t guarantee that the Intel Quad Core Extreme Processor will work, nor will it provide support for quad core processor-related issues."

I dont see anyone making 340fsb? They're all afraid of smoking their video cards with high PCI-E frequencies as well.. havent seen that happen yet anywhere.

edit - Page 15 for 340fsb.. posted too soon lol.
