    GTX Rads? Any recent comments?

Hi, I'm interested in anyone's recent findings or comments on the GTX rads.

I did a search and found a few threads from a couple of months ago where some folks were looking at buying them... does anyone here own one? How does it perform?

I'm curious to see how these perform, say vs a ThermoChill or MCR. Even vs those two would give us a much better understanding of how they perform....

Thanks guys... why did you choose the GTX?

I guess it would help if anyone here has recently purchased a GTX after using something else as well to hear some comparitive opinions.

I chose the GTX because I was a noob and the thermochill was a tad bigger and 20 bucks more.

BTW does anyone know if there is a thread with WC'ed Opty 165 temps? I'm wondering if my temps are a tad high.

i am using a GTX480 right now and its pretty good. I run my fans on 7v and i get about 50c with TAT and Rthdibl on c2D e6600@3.6 and 8800GTX 740/1200.

I upgraded from a dual heatercore. Can't really make a comparison though cuz I also changed cases and wb's at the same time.

if you plan on mounting rad in the middle like mine, make sure you put a towel or something over the fan holes cause ive dropped 2 screws and 6 plastic washers down there and its a pain to take out, but its very nice cooling for the mosfets ^^

    Great suggestion.

I've mounted my GTX 240 vertically in a UFO case as a separate loop for the NB/SB/Vregs.

This wouldn't really help in evaluating the GTX series as I'm using a PA120.3 for the CPU/GPU loop in the UFO.

I've been filtering for about five days now between the two rads and a single DDC+ with Petra Top.

I plan on taking Db levels with the Petra vs. Alphacool tops so we can determine which is quieter.

    More to follow.

If you can afford the time, it would be interesting to swap your two loops between the two different rads and note delta temps on your CPU and GPU in both cases to see if there is much difference between the two rads in real-world performance.

I wouldn't buy one. Radical_53 did some tests with a PA 120.3 + Shroud and a GTX Quad. The GTX Quad was inferior to the PA 120.3 in most tests. Only with fans @ 1200 RMP the GTX Quad was a little bit better than the PA. (0,4 K)

Ask him for further information, i don't think i'm allowed to post the whole article here.

How do we get ahold of Radical_53?

It is puplished in a german magazine, called "HARDWARELUXX [printed]", so there is no online version available. But maybe he can give you the results here in this forum, too.

It might be interessting, that the PA 120.3 + shroud beats the GTX quad clearly at lower fanspeeds. There where differences of more than 4 K in a test!

While I could certainly do that, do you think there would be any validity in comparing a 2 fan GTX240 to a 3 Fan PA 120.3 ???

I think I already know the answer.

I think we all suspect the PA 120.3 would be be better, what I'm curious to know is if it is actually significantly better in a real world loop like yours.

Since you've already given us the results, why not post the whole thing?

So, here I am If someone is curious why I compared a .3 to a .4 rad, well. I wanted to review some of the best rads, all are in the same price range here and each is the top notch flagship of the company they're off.
    I did those tests with a C2D 6300, 1.45V @3GHz, i975 chipset at 1.75V and 2 X1900 CF @stock volts.

PA .3 was tested with shroud as it was the smallest of the 3, also the shroud closed the price gap to the other 2 rads.
    So, some numbers:

    600rpm:

    PA .3:
    water-air: 7.4K
    air out: 7.5K above ambient

    GTX480:
    water-air: 11.8K
    air out: 10.8K above ambient

    Mo-Ra2 w/ 3 fans:
    water-air: 11.5K
    air out: 6.8K above ambient

    900rpm:

    PA .3:
    water-air: 5.1K
    air out: 5.4K above ambient

    GTX480:
    water-air: 6.3K
    air out: 7.6K above ambient

    Mo-Ra2 w/ 3 fans:
    water-air: 6.9K
    air out: 5.0K above ambient

    1200rpm:

    PA .3:
    water-air: 4.5K
    air out: 4.5K above ambient

    GTX480:
    water-air: 4.1K
    air out: 6.0K above ambient

    Mo-Ra2 w/ 3 fans:
    water-air: 11.5K
    air out: 3.3K above ambient

I hope those numbers are of any help

Well, it shows that a GTX 480 is slightly better than a PA120.3, however i'm curious to see the GTX 360 vs a PA 120.3
Why is it drug addicts and computer afficionados are both called users?

Yes, a very small gain with one additional fan. Plus the fin density creates much more noise than on the PA, especially when equipped with a shroud.
The GTX is a nice rad for a really big system where noise is no issue.
What I found really interesting: The PA series has so far always matched the performance of a rad that's using one more fan (like PA 120.2 matching the performance of a MCR320, or now PA 120.3 matching and beating GTX480 in 2 of 3 measurements), not always at the same rpm but it was always there. I've never seen anything alike before.

I am using Sanyo Denki 120x38 .52A fans on my GTX480 at 7v on pull and its doing a really good job.

You can buy the dell server version 109R12121071 for only $5 each and i got about 12 of them. They are much quieter than Yate Loon-M undervolted for the cfm and air pressure it gives and will start up at 5v.
