    Thanks blurp!

Anyone else have any input on the straps and/or fsb trouble ranges?

I just got the chip in last nigh. Popped it in and it's currently going at 2.8 (350x8) @ 1.35v. Tried 360 with vcore up to 1.375, but it wasn't happy about that. Also tried 410 x 7 and it wasn't happy with that either. Didn't want to push voltage too much, as at 2.8 and 1.35v it's already at about 63° with the mini typhoon on load.

Should I wait for the AS5 to settle a bit before I try to push it any further?

Here's the stepping info on the cover too. Very interesting!!!:::

    Intel Confidential
    QJNG ES A4
    05 HH80557PH0464M
    C601506B

I didn't think to snap a pic before i threw it in there. Would I be correct in assuming that's an engineering sample?

NIN, yes that's ES. And did you get that from stalliontek? I'm in the process of talking to intel about it

Ziddey, I did get it from stalliontek as an oem processor. Did you get an ES from them also? Is that the one listed in your sig?

no it's not the one listed in my sig, that was my last e6400. I have yet to test my stalliontek es (just got it this morning). I read up on reseller ratings after I placed my order and saw a ton of people were getting ES. Plus on [H] one other guy just reported getting ES. Definitely not legal procedure of them to be doing

F10 bios was just released, and it's supposed to fix quite a few things.

    http://www.station-drivers.com/page/...a-965p-ds3.htm

It's a German site, so their English translations aren't great for what they list as improvements, but here goes:

    1. . Enhance FSB frequency flexibility
    2. 2. Fix OC fr Allendale CPUen
    3. 3. Micron D9 1000 MHz 4-4-4-12 2.2V
    4. 3. Micron D9 1100 MHz 5-5-5-15 2.3V
    5. 3. Micron D9 1200 MHz 5-8-8-20 2.35V
    6. 4. Fix Kaltstart
    7. 5. Fix Vdrop in C1E Funktion
    8. 6. Neues Features High Speed DRAM DLL Setting
    9. 7. Intel HPET Support
    10. 8. FSB 1333 MHz support (Auto ab Rev.3.3)
    11. 9. JMicron ROM update
    12. 10. BIOS Profilspeicherung mglich
    13. 11. Q-Flash jetzt mit USB-Stick mglich

My ASUS P5W DH didn't let me run high ram speed and high CPU/FSB at the same time.

This DS3 is _amazing_. $100 on newegg, DDR900, 3.6 GHz, and orthos blend is running like a champ. Less than half the price of the ASUS, and I'm priming at speeds I couldn't even boot into windows with before..

I have just one stupid question.. It has a vdimm overvoltage option, but no core vdimm voltage option. My RAM is specced for 2.2-2.3.. is this anywhere in the SPD/does the board read this and apply 2.2v, so my +0.1v makes it 2.3, or is it using some arbitrary number like 1.9? I'd like to see what I'm adding onto.

no spd is programmed by jedec 1.8v. Also, you can use speedfan (may need new beta possibly) to look at vcore2, which is actually vdimm. I've found that depending on the ds3, there can be variations of 0.1v off what is set (I had a rev2 that set 0.1v higher than what you select, and also a rev1 that sets 0.1v lower)

Ok, so if I add +0.4v, I am getting 2.2v? And for the MCH/FSB, what are their default voltages? It says add +0.1, 0.2, etc, but add this onto what?

    Thanks.

Also, is there a way to get a reading on the northbridge chipset in windows or linux?

lso, you can use speedfan (may need new beta possibly) to look at vcore2, which is actually vdimm.
    I see what you mean.

There's temp1, temp2, temp3, and HD temp. Temp3 is consistently -2c. My radiator is in the window, but it's 54F out, doesn't explain this.. should I ignore that?

Oh, one more thing I think should be mentioned, just since it hasn't been in the whole thread.

Many core 2 duo boards won't work with the Swiftech MCW30 waterblock, but if you use the AMD mounting assembly, this board works with that block just fine. No modding, no torque from the tubing pulling the block off, it's perfect, and cheap.

Temp3 is bogus as far as anyone can tell. Maybe fiddling with the setting to like diode or something might show something different, but I never tried. Temp2 I believe is cpu and temp1 somewhere on the motherboard (don't believe it's nb).

They gave an initial response but I don't think I'm going to continue. I thought about it some and I've always wanted an INTEL CONFIDENTIAL since years ago. The F5 B1 ES's are pretty much release grade from my understanding anyway, and since oem chips wouldn't have carried intel warranty anyway, there really isn't too too much of a difference to make a big deal about it, especially since I'm managing a decent overclock with it haha. It's covered for 90 days through stallion supposedly although they're out of stock of everything and I doubt dealing with them would ever be pleasant.

But in the email I did receive from intel, there doesn't seem to be any intention of seizing the ES I have. They did suggest that I return it to the reseller and ask for a regular version. Also, they did ask for the information about the reseller, but I figure it's not worth me mouthing off anyway. I'm sure there are intel people reading these forums and not allowed to post because of job conditions (like BillA etc), and if they really wanted to do something about it, they could.

now this is just plain odd, I just flashed to the F10 bios and configured the Intel SATA to 'native' and 'ACHI'

upon booting to windows (my boot drive is on the jmicron) windows wanted a new driver for an 'unknown PCI' device

the device manager listed only the jmicron controller, no intel HD controllers of any kind... so the unknown PCI device had to be the ACHI SATA controller... problem is there is no such goddamn thing as an ICH8 ACHI Driver. I tried feeding it the Intel Matrix drivers, no go, they said there was no supported hardware. I tried using the F6 install floppy drivers, no go.

Intel lists the ICH8 as not supporting ACHI but plain as day the f10 bios supports it on the INTEL controller as well as the jmicron now. Even the boot screen now has a new INTEL ACHI bios detection screen.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!

Yeah I know right. It's definitely weird as all hell, but incredibly cool at the same time. Maybe I'll look into what I can determine tomorrow, although I'm not particularly keen on fiddling with bios settings again since my current ds3 is particularly tempermental. Hopefully someone will experiment and figure something out. Definitely really really cool

So yours is an ES B1? Mine doesn't even show up as being a Conroe in CPU-z... well, at least not in the specs section:

Wow A1 was the first of the engineering samples I think. That's strange since the other A1's I've seen all had true unlocked multis from 6-40. Sorry to hear that you got such an early one. How does it work?

It's not really an A1, cpu-z just reads as that. On the actual processor die itself it says A4, I unfortunately didn't think to snap a pic before I installed it. I'll probably get to play around wiht it a bit more this weekend, but so far I haven't pushed it more than it says in my sig. Anything much higher than 350 and it would fail orthos in a matter of seconds and if I pushed the voltage much more it would start to load about 65° C.

Which retailers are shipping out revision 2.0 boards in the USA? Also, does the DS3 have X-fi sound crackling issues?

I haven't checked newegg today but last I saw, they were out of stock with eta of today. Also, I ordered my ds3 last December and got a rev2

edit: xfi crackling I think is similar to live/audigy, and due to pci latency settings. There is a xfi dropout issue with earlier bioses that resulted in the sound card disappearing sometimes

I have an Audigy 2 and on my Biostar P965, I had terrible crackling problems before the board died. I need a board to replace it, and would like my sound to work properly

Is there a crackling issue with PCI latency on this board that you know of?

The options to increase FSB and northbridge voltage, I have them on +0.2v.

Does that mean the NB is 1.4 and the MCH is 1.75? What are the base voltages I am adding onto with these settings, I'm confused.

Anyone know the settings for speedfan to get proper fan readings? I've tried a few dividers but am not sure if that's the way to go about it or not

edit: also anyone know what temp1 is? Is it ich8? I know it's not nb, so just curious if ich8 has a sensor or if theres a sensor somewhere on the board
