That is a lot IMO, I used to have a e6400 that needed around 1.55 for for 3.4.

Im new to e6600's so I do guess not all cpu's are made equal.

I have been here from the very start with all u guys trying to figure this mobo out. Well i have gave up and got myself an p5b deluxe. I couldent get my corsair 8500c5 ram to run over 960mhz with the p5dh. With this p5b i am now running 500fsb ram is at 1200mhz 5 5 5 15 timings by spd and is stable. If i were u guys i would do the same as i did and forget about this nightmare board. Good luck all.

You are correct in the fact that it is stated this way in the manual.
However, it has been done the other way ( mixing black/orange ) by a few others in these forums that I have seen, and working in dual channel mode.
I believe it was Andre Yang that said he had better stablility with this setup.

Just to clarify, I have 2x1gb sticks of black corsair 8500c5 5-5-5-15 mem, and I suppose I am mixing the slots after all.

Since I already spent the cash on the gigabyte watercooler, I dont really want to replace the reservoir and radiator. I did see some additional pumps you could put in-line to increase the waterflow psi if that becomes an issue, so I'm not too worried about that.

Also, I was thinking more about it last night, and believe that doing a 1/4" inlet/outlet block to put on the northbridge would be the best way, since the majority of the water would go to where its needed most, the cpu, rather than the northbridge.

Thanks for all the great information and I'll continue watching the thread and provide an update when i loosen the memory timings.

    You guys are great!

    edit: fixed specifications
plan for the weekend: I'll try moving the ram to the same colour spots on the motherboard, since the ram is rated ddr2 and it only shows up Single-Channel in CPU-Z. Maybe this'll fix it?

Jump to 333x9 you should be able to hit that speed with stock volts. jump 5 or 10 mhz at a time with stock volts. When it starts to act up. add .05 volts and keep upping FSB.

I Did around 350-355 with stock voltage, wich is plenty.
pancito - From what I've read in the thread, the earlier chips require quite a bit more voltage and, in turn, run a bit hotter when overclocking. I'll be able to get my cpu-z and all the specifics on my setup tonight, so we'll find out what week and revision my cpu actually is.

    Thanks for the insight!

Cpu-z will not show you information about your week / batch, it will only show you the cpu revision.

My apologies, you're right. Isn't the revision A vs B the determining factor on which chips can go higher on a lower voltage?

If you have your box it says something like L629Bxxx in my case i know it's a B chip from week 29?!?

Currently i'm at 3.8 (422x9) with 1.55 vcore i'm running orthos as we speek and after 20 mins everything looks fine.

Chipset heat was my main problem, if you can cool your chipset good IMO you can get higher clocks.

Im hitting a wall at 1.75 NB Volts. 1.85 just doesn't boot at all.

I am having RAM speed problems with the P5W as well. Upgraded the RAM in my quad P5B rig, and took the OCZ that I was running stable at 1020mhz 4-4-4-10 timings, put it in my X6800 P5W rig, and it won't even post at 1003mhz with 5-5-5-12 timings. Both at 2.35v.
Anybody have any ideas? Is Asus ever gonna update the bios to allow access to the subtimings, or is that not possible on this chipset? Running 1707 at present.

I'll dig up the box tonight and post specs, thanks.

Regarding the NB issue, that's the reason why I posted in the first place.. I wanted to see if anyone had good fitting recommendations for (preferrably 1/4" inlet/outlet) waterblock coolers for our northbridge chipset.

    Anyone else with reboot/shutdown problems?

When I select shutdown in windows the motherboard restarts and when I select reboot in windows it won't reboot.

I tried both. The board is weak either way for two sticks - I can do DDR1000 4-4-4-12 at FSB 333, but DDR 677 at FSB 450. It's so useless with two sticks, even with high FSB/vdimm voltages, even with all sorts of memset combinations. With one stick, all sorts of things work that don't work with two sticks. It's a chipset limitation, I believe.

I can't wait for the DFI RD600. This board is selling, ASUS has no reason to add subtimings to the BIOS. iAudio has no need to add ID3 tag browsing to the X5, Rio has no need to add UMS support to the Karma. It's not fun to think about, but when you buy something, if it sells well, the upgrade in firmware/BIOS/drivers aren't getting huge features, just small bugfixes.

All we can suggest if you own the board is to check the download page periodically to see what is available.

When do I need to worry about a HSF for my north bridge? At what Vmch?

    Im currently 420x8 with 1.31Vcore, and 1.5Vmch.

I'm hoping to reach 437Mhz, which would require about 1.6Vmch. Would a 40mm fan suffice in cooling the NB heatsink with 1.6vmch?

    Thanks

I used to run @ 400 FSB on my Core 2 Duo E6400 (-->3200MHz) on stock voltages with stock chipset cooling. I got random system freezes unless I upped the Vmch to 1.65V. This thing runs hot!!! I couldn't even touch it. But it was stable.

Just to see what happens I ripped the metal foil off and attached a 40mm ixtrema pro quiet fan (it runs @ 4500 rpm with no noise at all but it is expensive). I can now run @ 400 fsb with Vmch on Auto. I've been running orthos for 24 hours 36 minutes 11 seconds now and it is stable

Since I'm one of those strange people who believe in overclocking without overvolting (purists they call us I think), I am very happy with it. A very small modification that goes a long way. And if you use a good fan, without ANY added noise. Highly recomended

Everyone send support emails to asus asking for tRFC in bios, maybe that'll get them to finally do something about it. But I mean everyone, even people without problems, just help us guys out please
