    P5B/965 chipset cooling solutions?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a P5B Deluxe over at newegg and was wanting to really crank up the FSB. I have seen some people getting 500+ and a few volt modding for an even higher bus speed.

However.. I haven't seen much info in the way of cooling. I would assume that cooling these things helps increase the fsb, but is it just the northbridge that needs active cooling? Does the southbridge limit the FSB at all?

I'm thinking about getting a small copper cpu cooler and somehow mounting it or even just gluing it to the northbridge, and another to the southbridge if necessary..

Thoughts/comments/thoughtless ramblings are both welcome and greatly appreciated !

    Very nice, I like!

Is that the stock c2d cooler? I was looking at a few copper coolers over at newegg, but just using the stock c2d cooler is a great idea. How high are you able to crank the FSB with that setup?

Does the southbridge get very hot? This little guy doesn't cost too much:

I was thinking of this for the NB, but really like your idea of using the stock cooler!

My P5B DLX did 490:ish mhz with heatpipe coler out of the box....I then changed thermalpaste to AS5 it then did 524mhz...then after changing to the NorthQ 3880 cooler. And with a 40mm fan mounted above and 1.65 vMCH I´m now able to SuperPI 1M at 550:ish mhz. Heatsink is still only lukewarm to the touch.
South bridge still has original cooler with AS5.

Is it really a 40mm fan? ..or do you have your case open with a table fan pointed at your mobo..

Do you have a top-down shot of that setup? I'll be using a waterblock on the cpu so need to know if the stock heatsink interferes with that mounting hole.

Stock cooling with reaplace paste and 80mm ( 60mm ) fan with 5 or 7V voltage.

    Regards

    Martin

btw : I have P5B Dlx C1 with stock cooling and no mod's. This baby can do 565MHz easy

wth. the website said it wasn't. Wow, how hot does it get on 1.55v on nb? I notice you don't even have a fan on it.

    PCPROBE.

I KNOW it isnt accurate!! But, to put it into perspective on the stock coller i was rising over the 50's. so staying under 30 is a BIG improvment, regardless of if it's accurate or not.

Ah nice! looks like there's plenty of clearance for using that mounting hole.

So I take it you just drilled 2 holes into the bottom of your heatsink and screwed directly into the aluminum?

I have done some modding to my P5B DLX before I installed it into my case. I still had my good old DD 865/875 waterblock lying around and saw that the P5B series had the points on the PCB where the mounting rings can be soldered. So I took a dead P4C800-E and desoldered the mounting rings and put them on the P5B. One capacitor was a bit in the way of the plexiglass, but I bended it away. For the power circuitry I made two blocks from an old aluminum cooler. For that I just measured the width and saw off 2 pieces. All is mounted with AS. But I am not sure if the watercooling has any use, haven't used the board with the default heatpipe cooling. But it's stable and cool at FSB 1600+ and that's good enough for me...

    Some pics :
