Serious flaw in NVidia 6 series logic

And it`s related to HDD system.

Yes, NVIDIA is aware of the 680i issue and has been able to recreate it in their test labs.

Yes, NVIDIA is working to fix this.

Yes, NVIDIA states it is not a hardware issue, but rather a driver issue so we are all hoping for a fix.
Hope those RAID issues will be resolved with new drivers

At the rate nVidia has been updating the drivers for their current chipsets, this might be fixed sometime mid-2007.

I'm realy dissapointed with the driver update rate for the nForce 4 chipsets

Is this problem even worse than Nvidia's past data corruption issues with previous NForce chipsets?

lol, reading the part about how with uli nvidia was not to have any problems with hard drive controllers anymore made me chuckle, being the proud owner of a cfx3200 with a useless uli sata 2 controller...

Finally, lets just hope they fix a few of their other issues

right about now I am extremely happy with the fact that I (A) have stayed with my 975x chipset mobo, and (B) bought a real raid controller for my system drives.

Anyways.. there were similar issues with nf4 chipsets and data corruption when copying large files (.75gb on up) on both the nv and si controllers (both integrated mobo controllers). I couldn't even use raid on my old nforce4 board because of that.. when I would use dvd decoder and also during divx ecoding it would crash my system fairly frequently.. it seemed less problematic when I stopped using raid..

Well, let's hope it is a broken driver in first place.

Hardware bug would be more fun and make people even happier.

that cluster**** that was their IDE error with nForce4, Damn those Mobos were so picky about IDE cables.

I'm glad I bought a pci-e raid controller for my gaming system. I had planned it for a long time after seeing how good the areca cards work in my file server.

It appears that the eVGA 680i is suffering from a SATA, raid problems. This is not isolated incidents but a major problem. This MB uses the Nvidia nForce 680i SLI core-logic (MCP) which controls the HD (from what I read). Here are some articles about the problem
    Xbit's Review
    HardOCP
Nvidia charges $120 for this chipset. This price 2x the asking price for Intel's chipset. And, it's not functioning correctly

From what I read around the net it's been said that it's not a hardware problem. This has been a problem since nforce 3 era (segate/maxtor) and yet today still exists . I seriously find it hard to believe that this problem is still present after all this time and, that this is a simple driver problem. It looks to me it's some sort of chip problem. Is it possible that the MCP can be update via chipset update? Or does the chip itself needs to be replaced?

My suggestion is simple. Find a better HSF and see if cooling the SB better solves the problem. All of this maybe just heat related to the SB

well, if it has been around since nforce3, and things are moving MUCH faster now, it would make sense that we'd see it more.. things are just crashing faster!

    Is it only raid?

From past experience I had 0 problems with NF2/NF3/NF4 single sata drives and no problems with NF4 raid either

No it's both raid and SATA. Some say it's worst in SATA II, some say it gets worst when you OC. This is not an issue if you had a problem but a general issue that has existed since Nforce3

    Thanks Nvidia!

I think I'll stick with the P965 until DFI ships the RD600.
