Talking proper way of removing IHS, hopefully...

Looking at past threads of lighters and torches, which have temperatures way
above what we should be subjecting to a cpu core...

I had an idea about just using your gold old soldering iron and a old heatsink.
Soldering irons have a screw on the side to let you change the tip of it.
if you remove the tip completely you can get a top flat base of the iron.
You can use this to heat the center of the core. It would be just like
    soldering till it melts.

Wait, there is more... Its not enough just to apply heat to the core and not
dissipate it to something else, which is why there is low chance of removing IHS and cpu surviving the butchery.

The capacitor side of the CPU with no pins, if you blob some non
conductive paste (not arctic silver but the cheap paste stuff) on the caps lay
it real thick then attach a flat base old heatsink (not too big size of cpu good
enough, although bigger wont hurt, but then it will get in the way.) to the blob. This will take the heat away from the cpu core while
you heat the IHS on the other side. sample attached sketch.

First do the regular cutting of the rubber sides with a thin blade.
Heat with flat base of soldering iron to the IHS (you may apply TIM paste
here was well for proper iron contact), have the cpu lay on the
HEATSINK underneath for heat absorption. You should see this work
very very nicely. You are not doing the extreme torched heat on the cpu plus you are drawing away heat from the core as well.

Also please dont drop it water to let it cool (like from the other posts).
Let it cool slowly via ambient temperature.
If you drop hot cpu in water you will kill it instantaneously.

happy hunting. Let me know if someone has a celeron or p4D to test it on, then on with the conroes! (attached sketch)

really a good idea indeed... I've just done it with my PD940, and it works! CPU ist still alive. I've no torch so this is the best way for me to remove the IHS. :-)

    maybe

what about putting it in the oven at 80C?

can the rest of the cpu survive low oven temperatures enough for the tin to melt?
