4930K@5.2GHz/ASUS RIV BE/G-Skill 16GB/4x EVGA GTX 780Ti Classified Kingpin Edition with EK-WB's/4x Rosewill Hercules 1600W PSU's for GPU's/Thermaltake 1200W for MB/Cooling: CPU-Vapo, MB/GPU: A/C Conversion Chiller
Use both.
Currently building my i7 920 rig
i7 920 - Gigabyte x58-UD3R - 6GB Corsair DDR 1600
GTX285 - Intel X25-M + 1.2TB - Watercooled
I'm with DriveEuro, I use both. Eventually I think 2001 will start to be phased out when cpus become the limitation again, but for now, both. Better for comparison to use several programs instead of just one...
Today's games are still under DirectX 8.1 technology so far by now 3DMK2001 should be enough to measure your machine performance.

I installed both 3dMark2001SE and 3dMark03 but when I try to run 2001SE if gives me the error "3dMark2001 SE needs DirectX 8.1 and proper drivers installed in order to run". I tryed installing DirectX 8.1 from the microsoft website several times but I still get the error. I think I had to install DirectX 9.0 for 3dMark03, would that be conflicting?
You have to have 3DMark 2001se (Build 330)
I prefer 01 becaus ememory and CPU count as well whereas 03 relies more on the pure performance of the card

I even bothered to buy 03 few weeks ago, but still haven't even ran the tests since, I've been lazy but the Pro ORB is nice...
2001 version was good as CPU affected the scores too but in 03 it's mainly GPU. But I think I like 03 better as 2001 has been around for too long, getting bored of it.
With a 2200+ i got 3000 in 2003. With a 2800+ i got 3020. nuff said

3dmark01 is best 03 seems like most videocards today dont have the technolagly to score high but the same way were still using 3dmark01 on the year 2003 we'll be using 3dmark03 in 3005 ....gofigure
I like to use as many diffrent benches as i can & keep logs of the results to judge how good a mod/tweak is but i use 2k1 the most.
2k3 is more videocard based but as time goes on and technology advances then the cpu / ram will come more into play ....one thing thats bugging me personally at the moment though is the amount of difference 1800mhz of AMD gives less than a mealsy 1000 pts from 6400 or so to just shy of 7400 ,,,,, futuremark either intend this to be around a long time or they expect some massive increases in cpu power over next few years to enable the cpu to come into play more or its just gonna stay a graphics card bench ......... my 2 cents
So basically your saying you think it will take into account CPU speed? We just dont notice it because we are not taking big enough leaps in processor speeds?
Cool!
not at the moment some people were benching with around 4ghz on 2k1 last year ... also 64bit cpus are just around the corner they "should" make a difference i would think .. just have to wait and see
They may have compensated taking into consideration Moore's law as the projection in 18 months or so the fastest Pentium line should be around 6.0GHz at or around January of 2005.
