How does it compare to the asus p5w64 mobo ? fsb wise. cuz i'm waiting to buy one of these and the 680i is 279 euro's and the p5w64 is 269 euro's. I think i'm gonna put a 6300 on it until i can afford a quad core. So i need a high and stable fsb. I dont have much money so i want to be sure about this. i'd realy like to hear your oppinion about it.

Get an Asus P5B series mobo with 965 chipset.

Much more tested board and ideal for a low multi 6300 C2D.

This board still has problems with the Quad. Will not hit speeds of over 310-320 fsb, even with the new bios.

the problem is i need at least 8 sata ports for my current harddisks and i'd love to have more. the most new board only have 6, that s*cks. Wich motherboard is better if i want to run with quad ? I've read good things about the p5b-e but that was with c2d. i'm not going to buy a mobo now and later discover that it cant handle c2q propperly.

    Here you go.

    E6300
    EVGA 680i
    OCZ PC8000 2GB kit
    Asus 7900GS
    Raptor 74GB
    Enermax Liberty 620w

Not sure myself why some can go higher than others but I guess it just depends on how well your hardware works togeather.

    Hey guys,

A beta BIOS will be available tomorrow morning that addresses some of the Crackling/X-Fi issues that some of you are experiencing. This is the only fix in this BIOS release.

Great news! I know you've been having this particular sound issue with your X-Fi, so please let us know if the new Bios resolves the problem. Thanks jakUp!

So the beta bios fixed that crackling / nasty sound issue all together? Going to have to wait for a final release as I've fooled with this board enough and want to game some finally. My sound issues seem to go away if I disable and re-enable SLI then reload game but some crackling faintly is still there.

How many of you can run over 500fsb on this motherboard?

I've sent a couple days tweaking and the only thing that increased my max fsb was the p20 bios update.

With the stock bios, I was limited to 1790 fsb. Now, with the p20 bios, I can only get 1840.

To those that run over 500fsb, are there are specific settings that noticeably increased your max. fsb?

    -Thanks

At the moment it appears to be cpu and memory related...but I mayl have more interesting results later...

Yep I ascertained the same, swapping memory around and changing FSB it seemed to be related to both. If I had been able to lower my multi on the 6600 then it would have been a bit easier to test, however I was getting failures in Orthos blend even at DDR2-780 and only running 1600 FSB, however I finally got stability at 1557 FSB and 1012 RAM

    Here is some unrelated news

I just got hold of an E6600 with these markings

    SL9S8
    L629B478

    HMMMM.....

I know where there are a bunch more exactly like it

I have what I think is a good E6600 but an A type

It hits 4.5ghz but is stable at 4.4...it did hit 4.7Ghz but only on occasion and not too stable

Anyhow, this one hits 4.7 easily!!!

I am heading out to get another one, but if anyone is interested, pm me.

I will try the tested one in the 680i board when I get back. (stable at 9 x 520 in my P5B)

I spent almost 1.5 weeks everyday...tried all combinations in bios and still found a few new combo that worked
After ran almost all 975X boards on the retail market, I can say that this BFG 680i board is the most challenging and fun to oc.
    I can run my ram @ 1240 -5-4-4-10 and 2.3V no problem.

Heres 3d with GTX SLi and PCI-E @ 145...Thanks Pedro

A few last run with an old single phase and air on gpus, also a few of 2 cores in "the house of quads"

    did I miss something?

like the "NVidea nForce 680i SLI Overclocking guide" from Nvidia.

    It's on their site

Or am I a Johnny come lately?

    You are welcome

11x multiplier as I told you Don't ask me why but multi 11x give a big bost on 3D over multi 10x. Despite the lower FSB better results achived around 400FSB ..

Unlinked mode realy change the things, 11x (12x on the cascade) with more or less 400 bus speed may reachs the better timmings within the chipset ..
