Asus P5B (vanilla) Overview

Yes , I was myself. My old P5B did 470MHz aircooled easy - but it got dead. Since I got friends in a PC shop I tested all the P5Bs they had - but they were all bad My current P5B is struggling to hit 425MHz

Oh this is bad...
mine can hit 500fsb.. benches easily @ 476 x 8 @ 3.8ghz...
The board's rev, shows 1.03g...
Does it says anything??

idd i have to run 5-5-5 to get 600mhz max , gone test on a p5w dh to be sure or els there gone and something new :p

Installed 0701 yesterday. So far so good. All my "cold boot" problems are gone. Now I can overclock and the board won't shut down every time at start. Great improvement.

I'm using 0701 and mine constantly cold boots. It's pissing me off, i think it's maybe not done it 2 or 3 times. Is there a setting I can change???

same here. I thought 0701 fixed the false start problem. My overclock is lower after 0701 also. Anyone else have a lower stable overclock since you flashed to 0701?

Hi guys this is my 1st post on this forum gonna jump in to action.

any how here we go.

system specs:
Intel E6300 466x4 1.350v box cooler
ASUS P5B 1.03g 7101 bios
Corsair XMS2-6400 C5 rev5.1 1gb @ 466 5-5-5-15 2.1v
MSI 7900GTO 512mb 700/750
PSU: TT 420watt





now this system works in most aplications but crashes each time @ 3dmark05 in the CPU test 1 if fsb is above 400 it crashes each time. :<

tryed my memory @ 4:5 it faild. but when using 466 combo 1:1 almost all of the test programs work with out reboots, tryed upping the voltage on cpu and FSB no luck same effect reboots @ 3dmark05 altho the 3dmark06 works fine.

Tryed almost all settings that effect o/c in bios still no luck. maybe memory limitation

Guys. I need some tips on how to install a 40mm sunon fan to the NB HS. What type/size of screws are needed? Or is there another method besides screws?

but still system aint stable :< 3dmark05 makes her go reboot. :< imo i must play with memory timings.

Thanks for the tip, did not know it was out.

The only thing I noticed straight away with the new bios is my PC does not cold boot everytime I enter bios now. Apart from that, no cool new features like NB/SB/MCHsettings or more vdimm options =(

Yeh mine doesnt cold boot either
rest of the settings shud be the same altho even i wanted Vdimm higher than 2.1V

I still have a cold-boot problem with the 801 BIOS. I only have this cold-boot issue when I'm running overclocked though (7x400; 2.8GHz x 1600MHz).

Just to make sure though - a "cold boot" is when you go to restart from Windows, and the machine completely shuts down, then starts back up (instead of continuously running during the reboot), correct?

Also, does anyone else notice a small fluctuation in reported cpu speed on POST? Sometimes mine will say 2.81GHz; sometimes 2.80GHz. Not sure what that is all about...

One more question -
Is there any way to automatically skip the JMicron detection portion of the boot process? I have a SATA drive (my boot drive), a spare IDE ATA drive, and a IDE DVDRW drive in the system. The JMicron sees the two IDE drives, but shows nothing of the SATA drive on this screen. Im not running any RAID or anything... This just seems like another delay to get to windows...

i tried that one and had to rollback to 701.....

i have mine with vdimm and vdrop mod

its not amazing but for the price......

just a quick run with ...

Same. When I first updated to 0806 the cold boot went away, now it's back. Not happy Jan. But I've noticed that if i Load Defaults it goes away again until I OC.

I'd like to know how to overclock it slightly so that my memory will run in sync with the processor (now it runs in 4:5 ratio, I think, processor at 266 and memory at 333). I'd like to run both in 333. The problem is that when I change the settings in BIOS and save, I just get a blank screen and nothing happens. I have changed the CPU Frequency to 333 and DRAM Frequency to DDR2-667. I've also tried "locking" the PCI-E Frequency to 100 MHz and PCI Clock to 33.33 MHz, but that doesn't change a thing. I'm only looking for a very small overclock, for now and I can't even get that to work.

You have to change DRAM frequency to DDR2-533 (1:1). Setting DDR2-667 you're giving setting a 4:5 FSBRAM ratio, which means you mem is actually running at 500mhz :o

Also, you may have to increase your vmch to 1.3 or 1.35v.
