Interesting. Didn't know Ferrari was still doing their paintjobs by hand...
just 400 grit wetsand any surface. then paint, let dry , clear coat
if you need primer. 220 grit wetsand, primer, dry, 400 grit wetsand then paint.
these methods are useable on basically any object. (mainly case interior and exterior.
Painting cases without toolless installed drives is depressing... I cry as screws strip paint![]()
Sorry is there a way to remove the tooless drive mechanism??

Good work on the guide! My next case is going to get plenty of custom work done to it so this will come in handy.
Very true. At my last job we did lots of custom work on Ferrari's because we were the North American importer of Novitec-Rosso and I got to see first hand lots of paint work done to the cars we'd build for customers.
This was my bosses wifes car. A Novitec-Rosso twin-kompressor Ferrari F430. Without a doubt the sickest car I've driven.

I'm thinking about getting a TJ07, and doing the interior. Do I have to bother with sanding and all that? All I want to do is paint the interior black to match the rest of the case. So can't I just buy any ol' bottle of black spraypaint, take the case apart, mask anything that can't be removed, and then spraypaint away?
Fire, You could but it won't stick to the surface of the aluminum very well and will chip off very easily since the aluminum is anodized. You really should prep it right first. The best way to prep raw aluminum is to scrub it with scotchbrite webbing and water, I'm sure it's an anodized surface so you'll need to sand it a little to penetrate the treated layer. You can easily do this with 300 grit wet/dry paper.
Start at the bottom of your panel or surface to be painted and scrub moving upwards as you go for the best results and finish you'll want to create a water break free surface what that means is the water will "sheet" on the metal like on it does on glass. Once you've scrubbed it enough to do this then you know it's clean. There may be some self etching primers out in aerosol form now that weren't around when I was painting aircraft years ago so doing a chemical etch may not be needed, check with a local automotive paint retailer for what is available. If you do spray bomb it (spraycan) be sure to shake the damn thing very well before spraying, if it spits or clogs turn the can upside down and spray (away from the surface your painting) to clear the nozzle, wipe off the drips and try again.
Personally I would just take the thing to a powder coating outfit and do that since that it the simplest, most durable finish available. Powder coating is actually a plasticine medium that is sprayed on while using current (like electroplating) then baked in an oven so it becomes one solid surface that is hard to damage and won't scratch easily. Only downside is it can be expensive in some cases depending on the shop that does it.
Does anyone know if a local car paint shop can/will powder coat my TJ07's internals and for what price?
I just want a simple black not shiny finish.
about 99% of all body n paint shops are not equipped to powder coat here in O.C. Try a plating company and or a company that does just powder coating.. That's your best bet and probably the cheapest route.
[QUOT[/QUOTE]paint?? (house of color). pearl, candy, base, color,clear.. final sand 1600 grit, 3 stage. 2 stage, base, clear,800 grit or better. single stage, 320 grit and shoot it. It's all in the prep mang.. laying down the paint is the easy part. It's the preparation that will kill,a job before ya start .. Hot rod magazine or low rider magazine can have you doing exellent work in a couple weeks on a PC if you read and follow simple instructions. air brush ?? now thats a talent like a tattoo artist, not just some guy with a spray gun in his hand and a decent eye. plastics require special primers as do some metals"aluminum" for instance. good ol sheet metal like a PC case is easy pickens.. use prepsol 1st to clean surface , sand with 320, then 600 .prime, sand, seal and shoot. allow time for paint 2 flash between coats and be sure to get your 1st coat on wet and even. NO RUNS ALLOWED *LOL* if U do get a "sag" or a 'run' use masking tape sticky side towards paint , lay into paint softly and pull up extra paint slowly . after paint drys ,sand and buff out tape marks and your good 2 go..That's a real trick and can save you time on a panel repaint. Now , 'back masking " This is handy for soft edges ,blending colors, color matching and wierd panel angles as well ( door jams for instance) .. I have painted autos since 78 and everything since. It boils down 2 A: surface to be painted. primers required,B:surface prep ,grit used, sealer and paint viscosity , distance from surface and a full wet 1st coat.. flash time is important too after the 1st coat is on.. painting is fun and pretty easy after ya get the basics down.. IF you want to go ape.. try acrylic laquer on a pc.
after about 6 coats your computer will look about 1/8 of a inch deep and the surface refraction is INCREDIBLE.. just get ready to sand sand sand sand.. after each coat take 1000 grit to it wet . clean with prepsol wait 10 minutes and shoot another coat.. about as many as you wish 7 to 12 coats.. I'm talking about a 400.00 dollar paint job on a PC here guys.. BUT radical is the end result.. Ps, paint booths are availiable for rent all over for a trick job . body shops will rent you there booth after 5 guaranteed.. ask around.. final note. go to a auto body paint distributor : sherwin williams, senick paint,3m, house of color, etc and see whats availiable to you for the perfect paint job.. fine line tape, pin striping comma brushes, scotch bright, prepsol, and wet or dry sand paper up to 2000 grit for a polished flat ferrari finish .. polishing paste to cut paint fine , ultra fine , down to almost 0 grit.. It's all out there to use.. I have a couple pics of a antec 900 i'm prepping right now for paint. I'll include them for a peek. I use guide coat between primer coats as well to guarantee a totally flat surface when the paint goes on. I use flat black laquer for that.![]()

Nice post hare. Try and clean it up a bit so its just not one big blob though.
I am just starting out learning to use a HVLP gun. Just ordered a DA sander for prepping my case as well as my project car. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Was planning on using HOK paint only the bestI know its expensive and my first results wont be that great but I am going to take my time and try to learn how to paint properly.
