We ran an P5W DH with X6800 more than 7 hours using dryice and a... really bad brazed container. Mounting was terrible, no donout unter the holddown plate... but the insulation with armaflex and nail polish worked very good (better than expected)...

Next time i'll use plastic spray and more armaflex (and a better container) to avoid condensation 100%...

This is how I insulated my DQ6 for few weeks until I RMAed the board due to an issue unrelated to phase usage. Only neoprene and PCB laquer.

No grease and RMA friendly too.

Nailpolish ALL OVER, load of grease in the sockets, grease on the caps, and closed cell foam. Looking back it was massive overkill for dry ice but after hearing of all the deaths I wasn't taking any chances.

    Great thread!

I only placed neophrene on my first try (mach2 gt modded) but this was no good..
Got condensation, board dried 3 days and booted up fine @air, now I'm going to use nail polish, grease and neophrene and it should be fine imo

What about the use of brush-on or spray-on Conformal Coatings instead of nail polish? I know MG Chemicals makes some silicone based ones.

Small amount of nail polish over critial areas.
Then use Neoprene cut to create a seal over the CPU when donut fitted.
Added some grease/vaseline over any "holes" tho it's not been necessary so far after 6+ hour DICE session and multiple phase runs.

I voted neoprene and grease only- though that's not fully accurate for me, because I used it outside of the socket too where necessary, to fill up any cracks in the neoprene. The key to getting it right is to cut the neoprene perfectly to fit with the capacitors and inductors, at least as close to as possible. Irritating, but it works, and is air-tight, literally.

I use sealstring around the Socket 775 and the standard LS mount.

I could swear I replied to this thread... maybe comp crashed from condensation? lol.

Anyway... I have nailpolish on smd's and legs of mosfets and other components, then around the base of caps and anything that has any air under it insulated with silicone.

Around the socket insulated with silicone, inside filled with grease.

Neoprene cut too fit AROUND torroidals and caps and then sealed with silicone in case of any gaps.

Foam used to fill in gaps in socket, one piece fell off for this picture (you can see where) but I put it back on.

    Retension bar insulated in silicone.

Rear of board has a 6mm thick piece of neoprene attached with silicone.

This is an interesting combination - just thought about it today and wanted to post the question if someone tried it - but You've been faster...

If this works 100% condensation free I think it's a fine solution, only Neoprene & Seal String, easy to remove and no need for grease, spray & nail polish.

Somebody else tried this combonation yet?

Since I'll be on phase change in less than a week, I find this thread quite helpfull

Has anyone thought of removing the stock CPU retention clip? Seems like condensation could form under it ....

Or should I just put vaseline under there?

I have been using the stock Mach 2 GT S775 retention system. Works so far.......used it for like a week now. No other insulation needed.

I use a bit of a mix I use a rear plate with a mach2 heater element in the bottom and dielectric grease and seal string for the front neoprene gaskets and dielectric grease, this combo has seen me through both mach2 and cascade with no problems

May not be as neat as some of the others but does the job

It better not ..... I dont want to lose my good e6700

PCB lacquer on back of mobo, nail polish around socket area, vaseline in/around socket & under caps and neoprene should do the job.

Glad I stumbled upon this thread. I just picked up a VapoLS which will be here this week and I've been trying to decide on exactly which measures I should take to condensation-proof my setup. It looks like the general consensus is that greasing the socket is the way to go. I don't particularly want to do this as I may be upgrading mobo's soon and cleaning up that mess can't be fun. I have seen a few posts where people claim that just the foam will be good enough on a stock LS.

So the question is... To cake the socket, or not to cake the socket?

One more thing; any specific type of nail polish that works best (preferably clear)?

    Thx yall.

P.S. I also have a friend who is going to TEC his Conroe, should he take the same measures as a phaser for condensation proofing?

I see no need for greesing.

But find some sealstring and use that 2 I do just to make sure.

so does the 775 mounting kit not come with any sort of socket or mobo insulation?

I had condensation tommorow with 5-6 hours of benching . I think 775 cant insulated properly [or it's to difficult compared with 939 or 478 ]cause of those metal plate around the cpu .
