Are you ready for the AMD/ATI Shock ?

Hopefully everyone is ready for the branding shock due to come starting January 2007....

The first of these will come when Newegg will list the R600...as the AMD R600, ati mobos as AMD Xpress3200 and ati chipsets as AMD RS690 and beyond.

So yea...be ready for it...both companies have said the acquisition will be complete before the 2007 year...so be ready to buy that AMD video card with that Core duo system

    Eeeeeiiinnnnnntttteeeerrreeesstttiinnngggg...

This actually opens my eyes to many new possibilities. Seeing that AMD is now branding their name on the cards and whatnot, maybe a further push will be given in quality and performance standards.

    And onneee more ting..

I see nothing but good coming from this. Dare I say.. Goodbye Nvidia within the years?

Tho it will be branded AMD. Most ppl will still consider the name ATI, like they will say ATI x2900xtx instead of the listed AMD x2900xtx.

Is there a link saying that the Ati name will be discontinued, previous reports were to the contrary.

I think they should keep the ATi name since it has an established rep as an nvidia rival. But I'm an nvidia fan

i have a feeling the vid cards will keep the ATI name, while the chipsets, as perkam pointed out, will be called AMD

It won't take much time for the community to change how we name an object. When conroe change to C2D after the offical naming, it was maybe a week at most before the community changed?

I won't and I doubt anyone will stick to old nomenclature after a while.

Besides, "AMD Radeon" has a sweet ring to it

I don't care what name it has as long as it does the job nicely and within a reasonable price....

The purpose of the article is to show that some change will happen in the branding...you might see a green ATI logo or what not...what will happen hasn't been decided yet, but you will see it on the R600 packaging.

AMD did not dish out all that cash for the ATI brand name...

I couldn't care less about what happens to the brand name. Yeah the whole buying a Intel CPU and an AMD Video card is funny, for a few seconds. Petty stuff like that still won't influence by buying decisions. What I am curious about, what would impact my decisions, and what others have asked about is quality control and warranty. What happens to Sapphire? They still going to make the majority of ATI cards? Who will handle warranty and RMAs? If those are getting transitioned from whoever used to do them to whoever AMD wants to do them now then things could get interesting

2 ghz or 5 ghz is only a one digit, yet a hell of a difference..

anyways I think we'll just see the ATI and AMD logo on the packages. Dropping the ATI bandname won't be smart and they know it.
