    Conroe 3D power on display

Sometimes I'm amazed that C2D makes such a difference in game tests. I recently picked up an X800 12 pipe r430 card new off eBay for $36 + shpg. So I take it home and throw it on the P5W64/E6300. At 2912mHz (415ish the 3D limit for this P5W64) it kicked out a 34.1K 3DMark 2001 at only 440/455.

That compares to 3gHz A64 and Opterons with X800Pro at 550/550.

I'm even considering picking up 3 MORE of those cheap X800's and running 4 VGA's/Monitors on the "Wall Street Quartet".

    Yes C2D give a free mega boost in game test ( 2k1, 2k3 )

Nice score for low clock's card and only 12 pipes - Allendale score

Life sometimes gets in the way of what we want to do.

yeah, I wonder what this X800 would do with 3.5gHz of Conroe pushing it? I think I'll get my RMA P5B Dlx back this week so I'll check it out.

actually... 3DMark 2001 is a GREAT way to judge the impact of CPU power. With that "flailing" GPU the C2D pushes the score to the level of another class of GPU. Simple. And for $36... I'm impressed.

Lol... "old GPU". I still consider "old" technology to be GF4 and pre-9700 ATI. I guess I'm getting old, too.

I got my Core 2 E6300 Wednesday, got it to 3GHz Thursday, and I must say, not much better than my 4GHz Pentium D 930. Is my GPU a bottleneck maybe?

You have to be more specific than that. If you run '01 you will notice a huge difference But if you run some game @ high res with AA/AF it might very well be GPU limited.

    isn't 9600 (x600, simply PCIE) before/same time 9700?

i am dying to see who will posts scores of 9600/x600, maybe ~25k?

Yeah. Just getting a CPU so I have higher benches sin't what I ahd in mind. Games aren't much better. But, now that P965s support Crossfire, this setup with Crossfire would be much better than my old setup with Crossfire, right?

    Tom
Can't quite give you that compare, but can show between Conroe @ 2.6 and Pentium M at 3.2.
Slightly lower gfx clocks, but may give you a rough idea.

Biggest difference are the Lobby-runs, not the Car Chase-runs
