huh the thermalright pics tell us to apply thermalpaste on both core AND base? that's just too much paste =/

Arctic Cooling X2 on 2 Sapphire X1900XT 512mb in crossfire mode:
TIM: Arctic Silver Ceramique
idle: 56C
load (2h of Oblivion): 78C

Thermalright HR03 (passive without fans blowing on it)
TIM: Arctic Silver AS5
idle: 45C
load (2h of Oblivion): 67C

Thermalright HR03 (with 2 S-Flex 120mm fans blowing from side of case)
TIM: Arctic Silver AS5
idle: 38C
load (2h of Oblivion): 58C

This thing costs only €45. Same shop has Zalman VF900Cu for €30.
Not bad at all considering it`s performance and certainly is alot cheaper than going water-cooling

Any idea what fan they used? Or for that matter, the card...if the stock fan's on 100%, I'd say x19.

I'm pretty sure OPB did the test with an X1950XTX. I want to know the fan speed he set the stock cooler to though. If it's at 100% then the HR-03 did pretty well, but if it's on auto then...

Certainly 100% set in the Ati fan setting section for fixed rate.

The card used was an ATi X1950XTX, and the fan used on the HR-03 was a Panaflo 80mm, dont know which but it's a panaflo.

Thanks for clearing that up. Good review, I liked all the pictures and captions. One question though, does installing it with the heatsink up (like the Thermalright V1) give better temps than the way you had it installed?

Performance is probably the same, the base of the side you're switching to has the possibly of scratching and marring due to the retention bracket of the other installation method.

Panaflo 80mms aren't too powerful, even the H1....things are looking good for this bad-boy

EDIT: just looked at the review and that looked like a 92mm H1. ~57CFM and about the same noise as the X1950XTX stock cooler at ~75%

But the installation option of an angled 120mm fan is SWEET, just need to make sure the bottom flange is completely exposed (no Yate Loons

) to pull it off.

just got my HR-03 today and mounted a Arctic Cooling 92x25mm fan on there - HOLY CRAP! full load tops out at 48ºC, and it idles at around 35ºC - that UNHEARD OF for a x1900XTX with air cooling... much less silent air cooling at that

thermalright definitely hit the nail on the head with this!

but somewhat OT bad news... the HR-05 NB cooler I ordered won't fit on my P5WDG2-WS Pro because the Ultra-120 is blocking it

, but I guess my old trusty NB-1C will have to suffice (although it does the job just fine)

What where your temps before you got the new cooler? How did you actually test the HR-03? Did you use 3Dmark06 loop or smt like that to really heat up the X1900 XTX ?

I'm currently looking for a good air cooler for my hot X1900 XT. With stock cooler I'm getting about 80-90C easy @ full load+ the fan is really annoying . And I'm looking forward to OC that thing but its quite hard with those temps

So would this HR-03 cool off my card even when using some extra volts and OC (not planing to go for high volts) ?

the HR-03 is the heatsink for you then - its the only thing out that can actually handle the heat of an x1900 series card and give you GOOD temps

before i was touching 80ºC full load with the stock cooler w/ fan on auto, or around high 60's load with the stock hsf and fan at 100% which is so damned loud

then HR-03 with silent air cooling literally teabagged the performance of the stock HSF

This seems to be to good to be true

Can you test how much this cooler can handle. Like try OC ing your card (if you are into oc' ing) and c what clocks can this thing take.

Even 70c @ full load would be nice without that jet engine sound that the stock cooler makes.
