I could live with the 1.2 Samsung RAM, but am hoping for the 1.1 like the MSI 7900 GTO's are set up with. Even if it is the 1.2 - it is a better card than the 7950 GT (HS/fan) for $50 less.

He he - I bought mine from ZZF for $249. Will be here on Mon or Tues and I am convinced it will have the 1.2n RAM. eVGA's website lists that as the specs for this part and I doubt they are wrong. I guess MSI used 1.1n RAM because they had a bunch of it laying around. Oh well - no step up option for MSI.

I thought A LOT about buying a discounted X1900XT, but I knew I'd have to replace the stock cooling with a Zalman and that adds another $40 to the price. Also, they run hotter and don't exhaust any of that heat outside the case. I seriously considered a 1950XTX because ATI finally figured this issue out, but the $250 GTO is by far the best option in the short term.

So what is wrong with the stock cooling again?

It might not be the quietest thing ever, but it does work well.

The MSI GTOs use 1.1ns ram, hopefully the EVGAs do as well or I'll be pissed.

i ordered 2 of em from zipzoomfly.com they should have the 1.2ns memory just like their gtx version.

Nice card for such price

This definitely got me attractive to do an upgrade sooner than I thought. I see the MSI card available for 227,29€ on cheapest site in EU and claims to be ready for dispatch tomorrow Okt 2nd (too bad that site wants 30€ shipping cost to Finland) But there are others that has it for nearly same price too.

Why is it this much cheaper than a 7900GTX and cheaper than 7950GT tho I wonder.

This looks like the perfect replacement for my 6800GT card (also been thinking about X1900XT 256MB but I'd prefer doing a 512MB upgrade), was gonna wait to see how 8800GT is like but meh this is too attractive. Definitely worth like 150€ to get A LOT better performance if I sell this old 6800GT. :p

X1900XT is the same class card as the 7900GTX

and the X1900XT 256MB is enough for 1280x1024 32bit 4AA + 8AF (or HDR)

If you wanna play @1600x1200 4AA + 8AF or higher

get the 512MB 7900GTO

Therefore, it just doesn't make any sense to spend a lot of money on the current offerings at the top-end of the DirectX 9 cards.

They will be obsolete by years end.

the best choice is "save your money for the soon-to-be-released next generation."

Look at the 5900 Ultra, big hype, but in the end.... the second generation DX9 cards were much better.

Seems like it all depends on ur wallet. If you can afford great card now and later than do it.

This gto and the s56 ati are both good offereing. The reason I'm leanin towards NV is the power ratio. Seems like they have that going for them and that I DON't Have to buy an aftermarket cooler.

Seems like you can flash the bios too. I think that would void the warranty but then again, this is XS!

Says the guy with the X1950XTX...my x800GT was doing fine in 05...getting 4.5k+ with ease...then 3d06 bomb fell and now it literally is worthless...I find myself scouring newegg for a card that can get "at least this" or "at least that" in 3d06.

Please speak for yourself...your thoughts may not be that of the whole community. For those people with limited budgets...buying a card months before it does become worthless isn't a good decision.

Ty. What I didn't add in my original post...was on top of all that...when DX10 cards DO hit in a couple of months...you know you're going to start going through the "should I, could I" phase. If you wait now, you keep your rusty old 78xx or 68xx or x8xx or x18xx card and when you DO upgrade, the DX10 card will last you one year...at the least (the R600 based cards will prolly last you more due to unified shaders which Nvidia will do down the road).

My apologies for threadcrapping though...those that know their budgets will find this an irresistible deal...

I would rather focus on real world gaming, and although a TI 4600 will not do much in Oblivion, the DX9 cards, clearly the FX5900 Ultra, cannot either.

Let me remind you that the FX5900 and 9700 Pro score horribly in the DX9 tests in 3dmark 05 and 06

How many pipes is an x800GT? I did 7.2k 05 with a 12 pipe pro on water...

And since when did 3dmark = games? Just because your 3dmark score sucks hard doesn't mean it's a useless card. My 6800nu pulled "only" 5k 3d05 but it was still perfect for cod2/CSS @ 1680*1050 decent detail.

Name some fully DX10 games that will be out within the next year... Not many. By the time we really start seeing DX10 games, there will be second gen DX10 cards.
