Exclamation P5B Deluxe - shuts down after saving changes to BIOS?

For some reason, my board shuts itself off sometimes after saving changes to BIOS. Then after a few seconds, it powers up for 1 second, then shuts down again. Few seconds later, it powers up AGAIN and goes through POST normally and boots normally.....

    What the hell??

    Anyone else experience this??

Yes mine does the exact same now and then. Not always though. I think it might have something to do with what option you change (FSB/strap??). Waiting for me HZ so i cannot try now unfortunately.

i've got a similar problem with my abit ag8 if i change ram divider or even just two or more settings in bios it does the same thing. but since it is consistant and always manages to work again i never really worried about it (except the first couple of times) i just figured it needed to do it to re-write the rom. but i could be wrong.

Ya..... I'm afraid all this power cycling will fry my HDs or PSU..... because during the process of tweaking, you'll have to change bios settings for literally hundreds of times....

It even happens after I press escape for memtest 1.65 to reboot! Anyone experience that? (Using PS/2 keyboard)

It is normal on any setting other than "grandma"/stock mode, since the Asus Bios team decided to reboot the clock gen chip to apply those non standard clock setting.

Yep, its bad for PS and HD, but request for fix already submitted and it seems this issue is not in their priority list yet or couldn't be fixed at all, time will tell.

I don't think this is just an Asus thing. Other boards including the Bad Axe will sometimes do it, especially after a strap change in the BIOS. I think it's the chipset.

I dont think its something that they are going to "fix". I think they intended for the board to do this whenever you are overclocking. Its a pain in the ass but it isnt a malfunction.

Get a cheap psu for mach/vapo controller and all the fans. Run with dual psu is better for this kind of mobo.

Yeah i get that too. It's the gay cold boot issue its got. Well annoying. Even if you do a warm reboot through windows by just restarting it, it will do the same.

The board is changing strap, sometimes it does it and sometimes not right? Any time that happens the board is changing the Chipset strap as described by Tony and FCG in the P5B thread.

This is by design and I hate it. So does my RAID0 array/HDDs.

That’s what worries me, because cutting the power to the
HDD's and then immediately powering them back up damages the heads and motor. Its even worse when your are testing the OC and you have to keep saving the BIOS changes a fair few times.

On the other hand the P5B has great BIOS recovery, which I like since you don’t have to reset the CMOS after a none boot, bad settings scenario.

Even at stock speeds, my P5W DH powers down one of my HDDs. Very weird. At stock it stops shutting down during warm Windows restarts, but STILL kills power to ONE HDD. Friggin' GHEYness.

What about when OCing? Does it double reboot like the P5B?

It is a real pain. You can alleviate some of the stress to your final system/hardrives by doing some exploring tweaking before even connecting your drives and finding the limits of your cpu/ram as far as posting goes. If you have a spare hard drive, you can use it while doing your intitial windows oc/tweaking and then go ahead and set up your system for 24/7.

Yep; Somewhere around 320 fsb, it started shutting off during restarts. Unlike the p5b, it does not have the little fake restart in between, but it does shut off and restart.
