- I tried flashing BIOS with a CD-rom but it said "Operating System Failed" or something like that. I'll flash once Windows is installed. Also tried with USB Drive but had some issues.

And one more question: That little metal thing over the SB, the metal piece that jingles a little bit when it moves... is that removable?

Just use Winflash for the BIOS. Much easier than other options.

I'm sure you could get the jingly thing off if you want, but why?

Maybe it restricts airflow to the HS? I'm not sure if it's even an issue, just wondering if anyone has tried it yet.

If anyone still having issues reaching 400fsb might want to looking into some Patriot PC8000. Here's my fresh 2x512 right out of the box from Newegg booted up first time at these settings, 2.0v in the bios........

Hooked it up with a E6600 and Vappo PE. Have fsb401, Bios 714, but it is killing me that I cannot enter bios when the ¨system is cold. -17degC. Any solutions? Have'nt read all posts, but does any body know??

Guess my board is topping out around 960mhz. I know its not my cpu as it did well over 1000mhz on a soft DS3. Anyways seems these Patriots are fairing better than either my TeamXtreem 667 3-3-3-8 2x1gb and my GSkill PC6400 HZ 2x512 4-4-4-8. I was going to say less stress on the northbridge using 2x512 but then I remembered my GSkill. I will be able to test with a 4mb cpu later today once my e6600 arrives.

This board still keeps knocking me out with its efficiency, but I'm not far away from peak cpu power option in bios. There is some Vcore droop as to be expected with 4 phase cpu power on this mobo.
Here is the latest from me with unmodded mobo and v714 beta bios. There is still the annoying manual restarts when you tell the system to reboot...

One of the highest PCMark05 scores on the ORB without I-ram or dual card vga. My X1900 XTX is @ 3D stock for the record. Run includes FULL cpu & ram test suites. All air cooled system mounted in CM stacker case.

Well finally 1000mhz with 1.25 divider. I've been pulling my hair out the last few days thinking why the hell doesn't the MCH voltage help, maybe it really doesn't exist. Finally found the mofset to measure the PCI/MCH voltage which is right next to the 4pin JPW and below the cpu fan header. Measure middle leg gave me exactly 1.5 which is what I had set in bios. Everytime I increase voltage so did the measurement on the board all the way up to 1.8v. I needed 1.65v to finally get my ram at 500 but didn't in anyway help my 1:1 OC even with 1.8 though I will add my board would boot up as high as 450x8 1:1 just not quite into windows. So I know the MCH is most definitely helping in someway. Maybe 2.0v is needed.



PS. ScottFern, I still get cold boot issues anything over 400fsb.

I just placed the order on this motherboard, and I'm wondering about the vcore options. In the manual it says the max vcore is DEFAULT +400mv. But does it really top out at 1.58?

I'm trying to hang onto my 805d for as long as possible, but i need around 1.60 to get to 4.0.

Any idea?

Not gonna happen without a vcore mod. Max is indeed 1.58 and small vdroop around .03 under load. But you never know your 805d might use less on a 975x chipset.

that may do it. the vdrop on my old mobo was pretty significant. Somewhere down to 1.52 ish. Lets hope for the best!

If not I'll be happy with 3.9 until I can get some money for a conroe!

Now i just hope these hacked SLI drivers will work for me!

I can let you know late tonight, early a.m. I'm currently running my E6600 in the P5W DH with the sli driver hack. 3DMark Score was 10170 after I oc the cpu to 3.6 ghz with the cards @ 695/825. Got 9700 with cpu @ stock, cpu score was in the 1900's. The drivers work, but they're definitely not for benchmarking or max performance & fps. I'll be moving everything over to the MSI board tonight.

God this can't possibly get anymore frustrating. I thought, what the heck, give it one more try. Go into bios...set voltages, vcore = 1.43v, vdimm = 2.3v, PCIeV = 1.5v and set FSB to 375. Loose timings 5-5-5-15 and see what I can do.

Initially, it wouldn't reboot, so I shut her down and unplugged PSU. Plugged everything back in, and IT BOOTS!!! Get into Windows, verify FSB and clock speed via CPU-Z and now its showing 267FSB. Why o why?

What is this weirdness? Please I am begging here MSI engineers. I need a better bios. This one is so weak.

It would help both him and a lot of the members on that forum out. If a BIOS engineer solved all the problems listed in that thread, and made that BIOS great, and stable for both overclocking & performance, the board would be an instant hit. That's what everyone at MSI wants, no?

So everything is up and running, all seems fine, but I think my internet is running slower than it was in my previous build. I'm using Belkin Wireless Network card which says the connection is strong and at high speed, but pages open up rediculously slow. The only thing I can think of being the problem is that my x1900xt and network card are on the same IRQ. This doesn't seem to be affecting my video card though:

FEAR Stress test - 1280x960, 4xAA, 16xHQAF, all max (no soft shadows) - 32 minimum, 64 average FPS

Anyone else see this happening with their board? Do you guys think this could be an issue?

Mine is lagging a lot over here. I'm using wireless off of a Belkin Router and the pages load so slowly, very "dial-up"-esque. I checked the IRQ situation and the first PCI-E slot and first PCI slot are sharing the same IRQ. Same goes for the second PCI-E slot and second PCI slot, but I'm not in Crossfire so there's no affect on my sound card. Windows says there isn't a sharing conflict, but I'm not convinced. I'll try switching the network card IRQ to an unused one - the MSI BIOS let's you choose 5, 9, 10, 11 or 12 for PCI cards. I seem to be getting a lot of "Timed Outs" from Firefox...

Oh, and this 7.0 BIOS is freaky. Shows 66x8 for CPU speed (CPU-Z shows the correct numbers), and my PSU has some crazy voltage readings in the BIOS and Speedfan:
CoreA: 2.61 V
CoreB: 3.76 V
+3.3V: 3.25 V
+5V: 5.46 V
+12V: 16.32 V

And MSI PC Alert reports temps of around 140 C and wants to shut down on me. I know this is just a BIOS issue... too bad I can't find my old floppy drive. Newegg has them for $6-7 so I'll get one from there.
