    HD Tach - 3x Hitachi 7k80s in RAID0

Blue = Brand new array, totally empty
    Red = 52GB used

    (used 64k stripe/default cluster)
    Whats optimal stripe/cluster for games?

    Post your HD Tach runs.

sequential and burst speeds are only part of the performance of a disk/raid. random accesses are far more important.

Yeah but for better random access you need physically faster hard drives (10K,15K+ rpm, like raptors). And they cost alot of $$$.

    128kb stripe
    RAID 0

I need another one of these drives. They're pretty good.

depends on what you are doing.

Does anybody have 3 x 7200.10 320GB drives in RAID0. I might buy another one, but it depends...

They're great drives and very cheap too

I have 1 as storage/backup and might get another to go in another raid 0 after seeing your results.

960GB is alot of space lol but 3 should perform really well!

    Talking

    Seagate 7200.10 250GB x 2 at el-cheapo & humbly rig using onboard built-in ICH Intel Matrix Raid 0.

Can't afford those expensive Raptor, so I use this two babies monster that cost me only $170 for both.

    Rig & the Raid 0 DETAIL , plus validated result in PCMark05 : Score = 4062

Yes....yes....I know, those "burst speed" right ? Just check at the supplied DETAIL above.

The CPU, Memory, FSB and GFX result are sux !
Please don't puke, just look at those harddisk related stuffs in PCMark05 result, fyi this is a "value / grannie grade" rig, nuthing special.

Looking at the performance/price ratio, not bad eh ? Say compared to Raptor !

Burst Speed is insane! Nice one bing!
    So thats the cache?

I will read into the Intel Matrix thing as I don't really know what its all about.

EDIT: Also just noticed the Ramdom acces time, close to a raptor

Thx, yep I think so, though burst speed doesn't reflect the disk's true performance, this kind of number is common with Intel south bridge ICH chip as Raid controller when used with the latest SATA 3GBps drive.

Fyi, my XP boot time is approx. 10-11 seconds (approx. 3.5 revolutions at the XP boot scrolling blue bar) .

Some nice easy reading here -> Intel: What is Matrix RAID? or this for two physical disks Intel: Matrix RAID (Two Volumes Per Array)
