The Gigabyte GA-945GM-S2 is available at some stores, (I don't think it's listed in this thread). Has anyone had experience overclocking with the 945 chipset? What's the max FSB you think this thing can go? I might just go ahead and try this board with a e6300 or e6400 until a really good mATX board comes out.

It's my understanding that only the 975X and the 965 chipset support Core 2 Duo but on that link it says that board supports Core 2 Duo.

The next time you're having a bad day, imagine this:
    You're a siamese twin.
Your brother, attached at your shoulder, is gay.
    You're not.
He has a date coming over tonight.
    You only have one ass.

I wish i would have read this sooner. I've been looking around for the a Conroe and I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the E6600. But as usualy, the inital public offering is pretty confusing. And after reading 28 pages of posts on motherboards - I think i've got it narrowed down. Now, off to read the thread on Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 - something about overclocking problems.

    Hi guys,

just a question to my new motherboard the ASUS P5WDG2-WS Professional.

Are there already ICH7 SATA/RAID drivers for Windows XP 64-bit?

    Thanks a lot,
    commy

Check the Asus website. If there are, they will have them. And a stop by the INTEL website would probably turn something up too.

    Hi there,

    I included now this drivers, I want to make 1 * boot-hdd and 4 * hdd's @ RAID 10.

Anyone know's if this are all the needed drivers? The first one is the RAID driver from asus page, the second one is from asus too but the "IDE/SATA" driver. So normally I need both of them, right?

The third and last one are from Intel directly, do I need them?

    Thanks a lot.

    Cheers

Bump. Now that some people have gotten the Core 2s are there any other boards that support the chips besides the ones listed? A press release from Nvidia states that they support nforce4 as well as nforce 5xx chipsets. My ga-8n-sli (rev1.1) may Support conroe. Seems like this thread is not getting a sticky when it really should be. While I know the power requirements on the Core 2s are different I imagine after a microcode BIOS update the ga-8n-sli series boards will support it. After all the quad is supporting it and it is based on the others.

Anyone know for sure? If you post an answer please have some defintive proof to back it up. Google turns up little info other than other forum posts.

To be honest I think it is lame that motherboard manufacturers are doing this. I get the impression that they are holding out and waiting until they sell some boards then post the BIOS updates after the fact. It seems like quite a few boards will support conroe with a BIOS update but the BIOS has not been released for a number of them so they can milk a few extra bucks out of the hype machine.

Intel is partly at fault here also by creating this hype and making an underwhelming quantity and overwhelming demand. This has also resulted in price gouging in a number of sites. Newegg even gouged for a couple of days there until people started complaining. Anyway not to stray off topic here but if anyone has any further info on the GA-8N-SLI 1.1 and conroe support I would appreciate it... THanks in advance.

if the board you have supported c2d's it would be on the first page. yes older chipsets can support c2d but need the proper VRM for the lower voltage of c2d.

Yea I read unfortunatly no where anywhere is it really clear whether it really is supported or not hence why I asked. I guess I was looking for a more definite answer which it appears only the manufacturers can really answer at this point.

Is there a specific module I can looks for on the mobo that will tell me if the correct VRM module?

Go with Gigabyte. The new BIOS'es (released yesterday) fixed some issues on 965P-boards, but because these are still betas don't install 'em yet.

vrm is a voltage supply done by intel it is not a module you can just find. vrm 9 or 10 is the old one where vrm11 is the one that allows C2D usage. the easiest way to know is that any mobo out before the "conroe ready" mobos do not work. along the same lines as why the dothan needed the ct-479 to run in the skt478 mobos, needed a lower supply voltage.

Hey, first post too. This thread has really been helpful as well as a few other here at Xtreme Systems, mainly "Places selling C2D at reasonable prices".
I've ordered my E6600 from shopBLT.com, it was $344 US plus shipping.
Now I just need a motherboard. Any word on when the NForce 590s will be in retail?
