12VDC Pump Max Head Pressure Test Data

Hey everyone! Some of you may remember my quick head pressure testing in this thread a couple of weeks ago... Well, I decided to expand upon it and test more pumps that I happen to have sitting around. Below is the data that I collected--PLEASE make sure to read the notes about the data.

    The Data:

    MAGII LE: (at 11.98V) ~3psig (6.92' -- 2.11m)
3psig ~= 83.03" water column at 4 deg. C (using the same conversion that Lee at SystemCooling does--1.0" = 0.03613psig)

    CSP-MAG: (at 11.98V) ~2.8psig (6.46' -- 1.97m)
    2.8psig ~= 77.5" water column at 4 deg. C

    AqX 50Z-DC12: (at 11.93V) ~5.2psig (11.99' -- 3.66m)
    5.2psig ~= 143.9" water column at 4 deg. C

    Laing D5 (Swiftech MCP655): (at 11.89V) ~6psig (13.83' -- 4.22m)
    6psig ~= 166" water column at 4 deg. C

    Laing DDC+: (at 11.88V) ~8.5psig (19.6' -- 5.98m)
    8.5psig ~= 235.26" water column at 4 deg. C

    Laing DDC+ w/unmodded Alphacool top: (at 11.87V) ~8.2psig (18.9' -- 5.76m)
    8.2psig ~= 226.96" water column at 4 deg. C

    Notes:

My results for both the 50Z and CSP-MAG basically match those obtained by Lee over at SystemCooling but, for some reason, the MCP655 I tested [apparently] ended up putting out a lot more head pressure than it was supposed to (based on Swiftech's specs and Lee's testing--1.2psig over Lee's result). Curious, I repeated the test numerous times with two different MCP655's and I came up with the same result every time. One of the MCP655's is new and the other one that I used is from a batch that we received in November of 2005 (it was pulled from the water cooled cardboard box display machine).

So, yeah, aside from the somewhat puzzling data from the D5, everything else seems to be pretty good.

...and here's a quick photo that was taken while testing the CSP-MAG:

Also, incase anyone is wondering and/or confused by all of that extra tubing, I modified one end of my waterblock testing setup to carry out the pump head pressure testing. I used the red-handled shutoff valve, that's in the right half of the photo, to isolate the test-pump from the rest of the loop (this way, I'm only dealing with the pressure gauge).

    Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

Well, I don't want to modify it just yet because I would like to compare it's performance to that of my own DDC tops once I have the prototypes made (still a little work to do first, though).

Mod another one then Most people here with the alpha to have it modded... so unmodded is of little use really...

Can you get your hands on a standard 10W DDC? I'd like to know what you get for head, vs. MaGiX's results. Should be 12-13ish, if i've converted his results right.

Interesting data on the 50Z/D5, a fair chuck above rated perf.

DDC+ seems to be inline with the 18-20ft andersson found.

Oh and the alphacool top was with top inlet I assume?

    Edit: zomg guru!

Well, it would have to wait until our next order from Swiftech but, at the rate things are going, it shouldn't be too long from now.

If you're familiar with Lee's pump testing over at SystemCooling, then that would be expected... aside from the rather odd result I got from the two MCP655's.
Oh and the alphacool top was with top inlet I assume?
As far as I'm concerned, that's the only inlet...

Good I just got one of them off another forume member on OC-f so glad to see it was a good choice. and just got an MCP655 so again glad to see how gut it will be

Well, I'm working on putting something together that could be used as a variable power supply of sorts... so I don't see why an overvolted 50Z would be a problem. The RD-30, on the other hand....

Well, the only one I know of that's around here would be Pied's.... perhaps the next time he takes his loop apart, he can drop by again and lend me his for a little testing.

Then again, I could always just order one. hmmm... *ponders* gas to get to the warehouse...or Radiical DDC top for testing....

Nice to see a side-by-side comparison...

Hey Petra, I noticed your D5 does go into a burst of turbo mode sometimes too. I picked up one from you last week, did a leak test and sometimes it spins faster than usual. It was kinda weird, I wasnt sure if that is normal. But when it did spin like that I definitely saw more water shooting out.

it's normal during leak test cuz there's still air in the loop, I'll be surprised if your pump does that all the times

I see, yea it's an open loop. I actually thought about dual D5 because I thought their wasnt enough head pressure. Thanks for clearing that up.

I don't understand this... I thought the DDC+ with Alphacool top dramatically improves performance over the stock DDC+? What am I missing?

The 50% increase in max flow you get with a top inlet ^_^

The 1st Laing DDC+ was using the side inlet? Or was it using the top? What is the difference between the two DDC's? Because one has the alphacool top which is unmodded so if your using the top inlet wouldn't the other one use it too?
