Got my E6600 from FedEx today!

    Hey all,

It's here, it's up and running and I'm about to OC it, haha!

Hey BTW, OCZ DDR2 EL Platinum PC6400 WILL NOT POST on the DS3.

I had to run to CompUSA and grab an el cheapo stick of DDR2, install it, get into BIOS, set VDIMM to +.2V, save and exit and swap the RAM out.

After that, it worked great. I'll post my OC results when I'm done.

    first retail e6600 I see

Still waiting mine I have the same memory but a P5B. I hope it will boot. (would be a pain to swap memory everytime an overclock fail.)

Damn! Does it not post with even just 1 stick of RAM? I was told that it would post, and I will just have to adjust it.

So will this be an ongoing problem? I mean everytime you fail OC or clear the CMOS you're going to need to insert el cheapo RAM to post?

Man, Gigabyte really needs to change the default VDIMM to 2V in the next BIOS or they're going to lose all of the good will they've built up with the massive overclocks being achieved.

yes, defaulting voltage to 2V will solve the problem, we need to send that to gigabyte

I tried all combinations of 2 sticks and 1 stick. Keep in mind this is the "EL" Platinum stuff that needs 2.1V (4-5-4-15)

Gold and regular Plat should work.

And yeah, better buy a cheap stick for when you clear CMOS.

I'll post some pics here shortly...still messin' with OCing.

I have the OCZ2P8002GK. It's the EL Platinum 4-5-4-15. I think it's the same stuff as yours.

Just curious, but what was the cheapest bootable DDRII u could find at a BM that would POST? =P

And, can Gigabyte fix this vdimm with just a BIOS update or does this need to be done via hardware?

Sadly it is not a vdimm problem for some of us. I have pqi turbo with current f3 bios it won't post. It powers up and shuts it self instantly. During that brief moment I measured vdimm and it 2v which would far enough for that ram. I put some other memory in, which boots by the way, I measured vdimm for it as well and it was 2v. Auto settinigs in bios.

I still think this is a BIOS update away... If Easy Tune can go 400+ with the x9 multi, why the heck can't we boot with it?

ONLY 3.5Ghz?! I'd say a 1.1Ghz OC is pretty good (approaching 50%!!!). Thats about what I'm getting ATM with a retail E6300 on a Bad Axe r.304 on air so perhaps its not a mobo issue, lots of other stuff to go wrong too.

"sometimes" i can boot @ 400x9,almost times i can`t ,i got restes or black screens, and when i go into windowns @ 400x9 the next reboot i will got rest or black screen for sure

no problem with 8 or 7

its struggling booting at 3.6GHz ... my E6400 with DS3 has no problem booting at 3.4GHz with 8x425 .. quirte stable since i build it yesterday

if u want to OC E6600 or above get 975 boards.. or get DS3 n wait for RD600

u see, pacman is a very good OCer if u look in the 65nm overclockign thread, so its the board. the chip can go higher

All I'm looking for is 3.4Ghz (1000Mhz OC) with my Ultra-120.

I can't even get to 300FSB for some reason right now!

no it wll not, as new buyed ds3 will not have the new bios. it only solves the problem to overclockers, that have gone to far, which is useless to me.

if i'm overclocking, switching back ram is like 1-2 minutes of work, but not having exchange ram to get your real working is like 30-40$, so like buying a much more expensive board.

    that's all crap.

    anyway : nice cpu.

Hey all, I got it from MWave (yeah I know I paid too much - I don't care (had the money)) HardOCP already ripped me up and down for paying $75 more than I should of, but the point is I'm on vaction and I'm using it NOW.

So, I CANNOT get this thing past 2.8GHz 312FSB stable. I've tried everything I can think of. There's another thread on here showing my troubles. I wish I would've gotten an E6400, dangit.
