I doubt it... don't you need 4 sticks of RAM in these 2 way systems in order to run dual channel?

It sounds awesome! I currently run two opteron workstations at home and I would love to replace them with quad systems as long as the power requirements aren't over the top. This is my only concern with the approach to date. The Conroe can provide higher clocks at lower power than AMD solutions. and for me, keeping my Seasonic PSU's would be a good thing. Buying upgrades in order to keep up with the hardware demands would be bad
Step aside, and you won't have to feel the awesome wrath of my mustache!

Does the "Quad Father" come with its own copyright infringement lawsuit?

They mean just the processors. The statement as quoted isn't very ambiguous. They need to say what else they are bringing to the mix or else this will tank. If they don't want it to tank, they better get some hyperclocked samples out there so people can see that it doesn't get romped on by an Opteron or Xeon system.

IF AMD could swing FULL Crossfire and SLI support, along with using cheaper processors, I could get behind it.

AMD could be staying tight lipped about the "packages" just to make Intel worry?

Maybe not tip their hand to early?

Hopefully Intel will respond like this is going to take over.

Only a perceived threat, real or not, will drive prices down.

They are responding...they're releasing kentsfield a quarter early.

The question, will intel take it seriously enough to make a sub $1000 kentsfield?

I don't know if they'll take it that seriously. I think the best response for us would be to for them to rip off AMD's 4x4 idea. Then everyone will have to support it or be left out of all super-enthusiast systems.

Actually, what would kick all asses would be to enable mismatched dual processors where they stay at their stock speeds. That would keep the Opteron and Xeon markets separate and provide a boost to enthusiast systems. Give that second cpu a slick, non-retarded name (Something with an X) and watch them fly off shelves.

I can see it now, "OMG!!! Newegg has X- in stock!!!!!!" "OMG!!!1!!! Newegg is gouging X-!!!!!"

If you could start off with any X2 processor and add the 2nd processor, say 3 kinds to choose from, (a fast single core, a slower dual core, and an FX type fast dual core) I would buy that in a second.

They are not FREAKING GOING TO CALL IT QUADFATHER DAMMIT
Fast computers breed slow, lazy programmers
The price of reliability is the pursuit of the utmost simplicity. It is a price which the very rich find most hard to pay.

I have a better name, Quad LOL. Because the amount of cash you are going to spend on that performance boost aint gonna be worth it. At least that is what I think.

i wish they'd say how much under $1000 a pair of 4x4 cpu's will cost...

actually, i wish they'd not use '4x4 cpu's' and just use regular cpu's...

we should be able to get a bulk deal, I mean paying 300-500 for a high end chip, and then having to pay like 800-1K for a dual core.............I think we should be glad in a way, cause if they marked the chips like that for a quad core............if there is a say 2.8Ghz quad core and it goes for like 1200, that would be in essence 300$ a core, not a bad deal.

I am just throwing aruond numbers so no one quote me.

Honestly, i feel embarrased even pronouncing the name "Quad father" in my mind even though it wansnt my idea. Its just so unbeliavably stupid. Not that quadicon sounds better though. Oh well, i wont be buying it anyway, too expensive.
