FYI G.Skill 2GBZX and Asus p5b

I had to run to best buy to buy a cheap stick of ddr2 just to post.

Even after I was able to post and enter the bios and set the correct voltage and timings, and then put the G.skill memory back in, it still wouldnt post.


As a result I just ordered this, its not ddr2 800, but I'm only running a Pent D at the moment, and benchmarks so it doesnt really matter.

It's a rather depressing, have a new mobo and new memory and to discover they won't work with each other.

the ram is rated at 1.9-2.0v @ DDR800 5-5-5

now i have shown with my ZX DDR800 that the sticker is wrong, mine infact shows 2.0-2.1v but it refuses to boot at anything under 2.3v in the bios.

i too have to boot with my el cheapo set then change the vdimm to 2.3 and then boot up.

if an overclock fails, your screwed as you have to reset the bios... and go thru all the ram swapping.. yada yada.

i would advise anyone with a gigabyte or other similar board to avoid all gskill ram untill gskill can program them correctly.

This is really looking like a 965 issue with this particular ram (And ram nearly like it, ala ZX). It's something to do with the "intel only" thing conflicting with the 965 chipset maybe.

Plenty of people have no problems with it on 975.

First DS3, now P5B.

Anyway, the G.Skill guy has posted on it in the other thread, and has experienced the same problems on a DS3. Take a look there.

Well it happens with the Asus p5b and the Gigabyte DS3... I highly doubt both these companys have such errors in their bios. I think G.skill's ram isn't doing a good job at telling the bios how to run.

So budget = does not work ? Budget ram should be free then. And people are having problems with the higher end models too.

At least they have the balls to come to the forums, I've never seen a company do that before...
