All 7900 owners please check something..!

All of this makes me wonder what (if anything) XFX will or won't do with their cards..... although, I shouldn't complain too much- I've had mine running at the clocks in my sig since day 1. And I've had this card since about a week after they came out.

The BFG i bought 2 weeks ago has the caps on it, I havent pushed the oc on it but its far from stock clockswith no volt mods.

Been reading quick thro this thread. I notice i have 2 PURPLE Caps near the edge of the board. The rest are MINT is this still good.

not sure about that as eVGA said that it was a memory module problem, but findings from other enthusiast is somewhat pointing to the hot IC's on the backside of the PCB

My card overclocks so crappy, 1.455v only at 630Mhz core =( past that ATI tool detects artifacts at about 635 core.. would going for 1.500v still safe on air cooling ? current temps are at about 64~65c full load with VF-900Cu

Mate i was getting errors @around 650 when i had it on Air as my temps hit around 70oC with 1.4v. Ive added my water block and straight away its hitting 670. Id say its the temps mate.

must be the cooling limiting me, but i also recon my GPU is a bad clocker as someone posted here stable at 91c.

I have just one question; is all this trouble with 7900GTs dying finally
resolved ...or not yet? If yes, what exactly was the problem?

I am getting 7900GT for testing before I purchase it and I'm little scared
if the card could eventually crap out. The card is about 3 months old ...it's
Club3d 7900GT ...as far as I know this cards never had an issue ...only
EVGA and some others manufacturers.

Would really appreiate any reply...will help me sleep better ; )

I had a Club3D 7900GTX which died on me... several others on a Dutch forum had the same with their GT(X)
It's a design flaw which is not limited to a manufacturer.. they all use the same design except the new models from Sparkle, Gainward, MSI, Inno3D en EVGA (via RMA)...

You can check and see if it uses the same chip mentioned early on here on the back.

4Qman your board looks a lot different than the other ones i've seen Usually the purple and mint caps are reversed. So your board may not suffer the same fate.

Mate thankyou for the reply. I was a little worried and myself also hadnt seen any like mine. Where the mint caps on the edge where Purple and the others were mint.

XFX PURPLE CAPS ON EDGE, MINT IN MIDDLE

Ive added a Ramsink to the bottom.

Alot better now as they were Major hot to touch..

Well for one your capacitor layout is different than the others,maybe its another revision.. well eVGA has has a different revision with different rams as they say Inno3d has a totaly different cap layout and cap types.

would 1.50 or 1.55 on the vcore cutting it to much on aircooling ?

all depends on your temps mate, id say yes if it was me because the temps here in the UK are around 35oC. Im running 1.4v at the moment on water, ill up to 1.55v when the temps drop a little.

well these things are rated to run stable even past 80c so if i hit about 65~69c at 1.55v and aircooling would that be safe?

Im getting this reading on a 2.5v DCV range on my multi-meter, sadly if forgot how to read a multi meter the red line is where the needle is at

I recieved my POV 7900GT today. Haven't had the time to test it. Will do that tomorrow.

My card is reversed from that. All the purple caps on that one is "mint" on mine, and the "mint" are purple.

Is this bad?

Can you please point me to the picture of this chip
or maybe some description of the chip, so that I can

I read though the thread and I was under impression
that the minty caps were to blame for many deaths are
now replaced with purple ones...I got the card with 2
minty caps
