ok , i am back guys

    K404
If a game is being tested at 640.480 to show one CPUs better performance against another, at the expense of real-world use...whats the point?
well , like some people mentioned here , to isolate GPU bottleneck and compare actual CPU performance I wish i had Crossfire setup so we can actualy use real world resolutions , unfortunately i have only one card at the moment
Like lets say F.E.A.R. , it won't run well enough with single X1900XTX @ 750/900 with AA enabled with and high resolutions . Been playing online , on a busy 16 people deathmatch server , fps monitoring with FRAPS 2.74 :

    Opteron 170 @ 2.8GHz
    Cooler Master Hyper 6
    DFI LP UT nF4 Xpert
    2x512Mb , 255MHz @ 2-2-2-5-1T
    X1900XTX @ 750/900
    250Gb WD2500JS-00MHB1 , S-ATA 16Mb
    Win XP Pro SP2 , Cat 6.6

Arithmetic average from 5 runs for each resolution :

    Min. FPS :

    1600x1200 , AAx0/AFx16 , Max. Quality , SoftShadows - Off. : 27.8 fps
    1280x1024 , AAx4/AFx16 , Max. Quality , SoftShadows - Off. : 22.4 fps
    640x480 , AAx0/AFx16 , Max. Quality , SoftShadows - Off. : 45.0 fps

    Avg. FPS :

    1600x1200 , AAx0/AFx16 , Max. Quality , SoftShadows - Off. : 81.02 fps
    1280x1024 , AAx4/AFx16 , Max. Quality , SoftShadows - Off. : 62.22 fps
    640x480 , AAx0/AFx16 , Max. Quality , SoftShadows - Off. : 111.98 fps

    1600x1200 , AAx0/AFx16 - it was ok
    1280x1024 , AAx4/AFx16 ... well - i didn't enjoy it , fps are too low for online gaming
    640x480 , AAx0/AFx16 - very smouth , but couldn't see anything on my 21" CRT lol

FRAPS log's if anyone interested :

    1600x1200 , AAx0/AFx16 :

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
    44107, 590161, 31, 297, 74.737
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
    90145, 903468, 29, 284, 99.777
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
    66125, 897281, 28, 305, 73.695
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
    73354, 899767, 24, 274, 81.526
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
    67761, 898443, 27, 219, 75.420
    1280x1024 , AAx4/AFx16 :

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
    54865, 898226, 28, 165, 61.082
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
    57340, 896534, 20, 189, 63.957
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
    10410, 147029, 22, 242, 70.802
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
    30760, 591178, 27, 152, 52.032
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
    43307, 684274, 15, 201, 63.289
The point of running 640x480 is to compare actual CPU performance , isolate them from GPU bottleneck and get the idea of what would be the best choise for more powerfull next generation GPU's (or SLI/Crossfire setups u can get today if u are hardcore gamer )

I doubt it will do that big of a difference at another .2 increase. However, keep in mind that this is a chip costing at least 100-150 less than the OPty...

Even thought it will be lost onthe motherboards at these prices

could you try to install the AMD MultiCore Optimiser Fix (if you didn't yet) and then run the games benches (and not only) again?

Is there any proof it actualy does anything ? Because i realy don't want to rebench all that for no obvios reason , it will take too much time for that - about 12-16 hours of non-stop benching lol
The good thing is that i managed to run all the tests with Opteron 170 @ 3.0GHz (had to use portable AC for that - it's very hot here ) and i am going to add all the data right now

Now my Opty is finaly happy again

I wonder if the retail CPUs will have a good chance of getting to 3GHz. I'm ordering one of these for my next system which should be done at the end of the summer. From what I've heard 2.4 should be easy to get unless you have a dud, but I'd really like to get 2.8 or 3. 60% OC sounds very nice to me

I'll be selling my current setup to get some extra money towards a DX10 gfx card as well so overall it should be a mighty good system by the time vista comes out (although that could be 2008 at this rate )
<eMesreveR>Do "girls" ever appear outside the Internet? Can i randomly encounter them?
<Aleph-One>I believe they are a fabrication. Most of the evidence would suggest that they were created in a studio during the Cold War to display our industrial superiority over the Soviet Union.

Good job Gorod, keep it up

Your benches prove not only that the C2D is THE gaming CPU, but also that its "2 MB only" L2 isn't holding it back like some people (hint: Sharikou) predicted it would.

Unless I overlooked something, it seems that the closest competitor of the Allendale is not the Opty, but the Yonah

Great work Gorod! I think many fanf AMD soberly will understand what CPU at present is most attractive on a parity productivity/price.
I have made the choice: Conroe - for me!

Hay Gorod rd600 MB wit its independent FSB of cpu clock can be proven usefull with this cpu
By the way i think i playd a guy named Gorod in FEAR MP last nite, eh if that was you my fear nickname is Ei$t|hc and yea i win allot like most of the time with my Dothan sys.

Anyway great overclock on default vcore. Any reason why you have not up the Vcore?

That was me lol , i remember nickname Ei$t|hc from last night , we probably played together I play on my Opty rigth now , 2.8GHz and single X1900XTX @ 750/900 , have to use 1600x1200 AAx0/AFx16 because lower resolutions look ugly on my monitor (good old 21" CRT ) , i will probably need to go CrossFire for that game - single X1900XTX can't handle that kind of settings very well

Any reason why you have not up the Vcore?
A very simple one - it hits FSB wall , need a better cooling for NB to go any higher then that . Found 80W TEC may be i will try use it to cool Northbridge , will see how much further it can go

It's not like u can't play it , fps are ok it's playable . But it's far from being perfectly smouth like lower resolution are , it was so much better performance wise when playing lower resolutions Crossfire/SLI is higly recommended for F.E.A.R. if playing high resolutions

Just did VDDR mod yesterday and i am going to retest that 6300 with some nice D9's (Corsair 8000UL) . Updated result's , more game tests and 3DMark & Aquamark comparo benches coming soon
Please note : high performance Boot Strap = 1066
