liek i said all we have seen so far are E6600 and E6700 on air in intel and the overclocking sections. No one used aircooling on X6800 in the past several months, its all phase/ln2 on X6800 to break WR. When retail E6600 , 6700 are out we will see whther or not retail is better than B1.

    X6800's 75W at stock speed compare to the E6700's 65W ...

Perhaps there is still hope...though I don't see how these will magically do so much better on phase when they are so far behind on air.

    this is interesting...
bad news because it doesnt OC as high as the ESs
good news because it looks like the chipset maxing out will NOT be my biggest problem, and maybe phase on the e6600 WONT be a huge waste...

the cores are never going to be equal
so automatically, you consider the lesser core a 'bum' core

hell i did/do/will do it too

when one core dies at such a low clock its bad.. seen this many many times
    experienced it myself several times.

Lestat, no. What are you smoking? Whatever it is, it must be good.

His core isn't dead, nor is it "bad". He has a fully working X6800. In dual-core CPUs, each core is not identical to the other. They are each individual cores with their own limits. One core overclocking higher than the other is perfectly normal. The only bad thing here is the poor overclockability of his X6800.

Maybe Intel nerfed the overclock to insure people will still upgrade, after all 4ghz on air for one of these is rather shocking. With that much horsepower, games wouldn't be CPU bound for a year or two.

yeah its more of a subconscious thing

one of my cores on my opterons always failed first... like clockwork. unless your cores are within like 10mhz max of each other (unlikely) you are going to start calling one the bum core.

besides the fact that the reason the 2nd core keeps going longer after the first one dies is the reduced heat and whatnot
like, if the cores WERE equal, and one failed, and another kept going... it now has a lesser chance of failing within, say, the next 10 seconds than it did when both cores were running...

/reminds me of the conspiracy that AMD was putting one 'bum core' on every X2 just "so that everyone wouldn't just overclock it to 4800+ speeds"... what a laugh that was

Its just typical variation. Not every chip is a super clocker. Heck, my x6800 is a modest clocker as well. Still pretty f'ing fast at "only" 3.8ghz 24/7

Ah, I was assuming it was referring to motherboard interface, not card interface.

    Sorry, noob here.

    And about the screenshots?

It's the key on your keyboard that says PRT SCR which means Print Screen.

Then just paste it into paint or any graphics program...

Agreed. 1 or 2 chips shown should not be assumed to be indicative of all retail B2 stepping CPUs.

I would rather have FCG's Camaro anyway, but its a little more expensive than a X6800

Aslong as my e6600 does 3.3 or something, I'll be happy because it's still going to be a lot faster than my old 2.6ghz X2

I learn every day on this forum

    Why are you all disappointed?
3.8GHz is still great! You'll never be happy if you always want more and more.
