so im guessing 2MB L2 cache + 965 is the best comboOriginally Posted by hicookie
and 4MB cache + 975 is another one .....
Damn, we need more people to test this board. So stepping 5 can't do over 400 fsb? Or the E6600 can't do over 400?

i think its the E6600 cant do over 400fsb... the extra 2MB cache kinda holds it back, i tihnk if u want the most out of E6600 or above u need 975 boards

Usually once a product hits market they (semi conductor companies) separate the upper line from the lower line by the grade of the wafer. Since this is the first release, It can be assumed the first batch of all processors is going to be heterogeneous. Meaning that possibly the best silicon wafer was a 6300 or 6600 etc. I’m sure the demand and pressure with the new stepping slightly contributed to this. Also, once the X6800 series market is saturated, what does Intel do with the high grade wafers? They make them into 6700s, 6600s and most importantly the 6400s which will be the most on demand. This means that it is possible to OC a 6400 to whatever limits a 6800 will go to.
Example: Manchester 4000+ OCs to 2.7Ghz before wall, another Manchester 3000+ OCs to 2.7Ghz on the same set up. I’ve seen this happen more than once.
X6800 should be a better over clocker simply for the fact that the multiplier tool is huge. But in the end it looks like the quality of silicon on this first batch might be mixed. Let’s hope we get a good OCer.![]()

Great, I just bought the DS3 for my pre-ordered E6600.
I'm gonna be real pissed if this combo sucks. I was hoping for a good solid 400FSB/3.6Ghz. Argh.
Yeah! Post up some stuff please! I need to know if I need to RMA my board!Originally Posted by Lestat

i dont have conroe :P anyway it OC pentium d 920 quite well. although my RAM cant hit 900MHz or 450MHz DRM for some reason . i added 2.2v. on corsair website it says 1000Mhz at 2.2v ... as for the mobo its not bad Realtak Audio output .. i think its the same as P5W DH .. (mine died, going to send RMA soon cant boot!!! BIOS crap)Originally Posted by cupholder2.0
the highest setting for vcore is 2v !! for those of u who have teh guts. .. and most stable , highest clock is 3.8 Ghz for pentium d 920 272Mhz fsb ...
PS: press ctrl + f1 at main BIOS menu to enable DRAM timing options... thats how i got to 3-3-3-9. i can boot at 4-3-3-9, but in windows it turn to 3-3-3-9?? oh well lower the better
packaging .. i have no idea how to describe it lol its just liek any other boards
max settings:
vcore: 2v !
vdimm: +.4v from 1.8v
vmch: +.3v
vfsb: +.3v
vPCI E: +.3v
im not sure about the default voltage for mch, and others
edit: not sure about this board's temperature: i ran dual prime 2004for 7hours , and it was only 60c ...

If conroe was available today, this would be the board I buy.
Since it is not, I'll just keep waiting hoping for something better.
How come that link is showing the E6400 with a x7 multi? isnt it x8 multi?

look at that! gigabyte's 965 Rocks!! and it's possible to break wr fsb with mod or other chips

He has his numbers on the links backwards, the first link is a E6400 at 480. The second picture is the E6300 at 501, not the E6400. If this board does 501 with no mods...![]()
lol realised you were showing max fsb not max clock after i posted!Originally Posted by hicookie

Would actually like to see a max clock on default vcore with a retail E6400!
Anyone????

Whatever, an E6600 at a 400 MHz FSB wall will still be better price/performance than a 975 Mobo, which i don't have the cash for...
