    3700+ @ 2.7ghz Oc'ing Cant get further

    Hi

I have ran in to a wall while oc'ing my Sandy 3700+.
I am running it on a DFI lanparty ultra-D (with DFI's newest bios) With 2*1gb kingston value ram
    And a Zalman 7000b-alcu cooler

Its is Rock stable at 2700Mhz at following settings:
Its is runing a Pi 1m at 33 sec

    vcore: 1.550
    Vmem: 2.7
    V Ldt: 1.3
    V Chipset: 1.50
And ram divider 133 (so that i am sure that it is not the RAm that is setting the limit)
    And HTT at 4x

At 2750 it gets slightly unstable, resets sometimes.

What can it be. I have seen several sandys getting near 2900 on air.
Maybe another bios or a Modded bios ?

at 2790 mhz superpi fails and posts the message: Not convergent in SQR?

A pic of max superPi 1m is attached:

    Thnx for the help

First of all set the HTT Multiplier to 3x. My Ultra-D doesn't like to do x4 > ~255Mhz try to stay under 1000 Also, what stepping do you have?

Here is my 3700+ @ air:

Ok. i will try to set it to 3x

Is there another way to see stepping other than take the cooler off the cpu ?? (lazy me :P)

What's the deal with NV Monitor showing 1.4v vCore and cpuz 1.5v? If you can figure out the stepping we might be able to predict whether its the cpu or sth else

what Tref value are you using? I have found this setting can have positive impact on getting more from certain types of memory (especially UCCC). I see you have value ram so perhaps it will help that too.

    In a64 tweaker it says
Refresh rate (Tref): 133 MHz 3.9us

Thnx for the help so far

hmm... 2.7GHz 1.55v at least that's better than my POS SD3700+ that I'm running 2695MHz @ 1.65v and 15 - 20mins prime stable. Will swap it out for a Manchester ASAP tho. It's the same for me when reaching 2.62 - 2.65GHz or so, it won't go much further at all after that. Mine's an early E4 tho with a crappy stepping CABHE 0520 VPAW I got thx to the stock ran out JUST as I hit the order button, and it's the last E4 ones that were good not the earliest ones.

Thats a rev E6 stepping, and sorry to say, but dont usely clock as good as the E4. I think its the max of the CPU

In the first screenshot your "idle" temp is 51°C... You can forget overclocking any further then.

The first screen isnt idle. idle is around 45 or so.

on the screen i just came out of a hour or so of playing FEAR and ran that 1m test.

    Enter bios and set your divider to 133. Set Tref to 2336 (166MHz, 1.95us) or 2064 (133MHz, 1.95us) or 1816 (100MHz, 1.95us).

These Tref values have helped me push just a little more out of my UCCC.

But the CPU stepping you have may well be your biggest barrier.

Still, I think your temp is limiting... Around 50°C these CPU's crap out on stability...

one more suggestion...set your idle cycle limit to 0

Do you know what KABGE chips are like for overclocking?

    Thanks in advance

I'd say stay away from any CABGE and CABHE, they are known bad clockers, 2.6 - 2.75GHz or so.

maybe if doesnt clock very well, because it is a failed dual core, thats why it wont clock like the sandies

like everybody else said dont except you cpu to be like the other peoples. it might be the max it can go and its already pretty good speed so just stop trying to squeeze more
