    nvidia control panel in vista?

how the crap do i access it?

i was doing some 3dmark2k1 comparing... i get 16.5k in vista, and 20k in XP, and figured it may be that the settings are set to quality instead of preformance, but i cannot seem to get to that pannel to change anything!

    anyone know how?

    that's precisely what's going on

in Vista x64, you can actually run the Control Panel applet from the windows\system32 folder, but it comes up blank....so creepy...

    here's what I did for a short-term solution:

    download PowerStrip build 3.66.564 beta

before you run the installer, you'll have to highlight the file (psbeta.exe), right-click on it, choose Properties, then the Compatiblity tab. check the box to enable Windows XP SP2 Compatiblity mode and click apply.

now run the installer and PowerStrip will install

to deal with optimizations, just set up an Application Profile for each program you want to run. i.e. I set up one called "3DMark" that turns off vsync, un-forces AA/AF, sets IQ to High Performance, etc.

PowerStrip is the ony app so far that exerts at least some control over the display driver optimizations. it is also the only program the reads GPU/mem clocks and allows you to set an overclock. problem is that the overclock will not 'stick", just resets itself to factory defaults.

all this work...fwiw...my 3Dmark05 score went UP by 18 points @ stock GPU clocks under Vista x64 as compared to XP Pro 32-bit. same CPU, RAM, everything.. no i am not kidding

hmm.. my 3dmark2k1 score is still a few thousand low, and my 03 score is around 900 points low... even after using powerstrip...

i didn't have to mess with AA/AF in vista though... it was already unchecked. was i supposed to do something different?

EDIT: oh... and i didn't have to run it in compatability mode. i forgot to do that, but it seems to be functioning as you explained it... so i didn't bother re-installing.

nice, I didn't even try outside of the Compat Mode, been doing it with all 32-bit apps

don't know if you've found it yet, but go into Performance Profiles, uncheck "Disable driver options" and a bunch of new optimiztions show up, i.e. at the bottom you can even change IQ from High Quality >>> High performance

i just created a performance profile called "3DMark" with the tweaks that are available, then created an application profile based on that performance profile and also called it "3DMark" for the sake of simplicity. trick here is that I can't just fire up 3DMark or I get a vsynch-enabled score...have to start the program via the "3DMark" Application Profile.
