Tested good nlite presets-184mb of 24/7 stable and compatable goodness.

Here's an nlite preset which I use for my 24/7 os. It's fast and small, 184mb for the finished iso. iirc it starts with only 14 processes! I've had no problems with program incompatability and it's pretty quick. This has evolved after about 15 different nlite installs and I thought you guys might want to take a look at it:

The one thing I'm going to change next time I install is to let wmp stay.

    interesting.

So does it have all of those languages or are they disabled.

and does it have printing capabilities as well as full file sharing (windows networking) capabilities?

Same here. Tried it on vmware first and it worked well. Then took the plunge and installed for 24/7 use. Haven't had a problem yet.

Very good nlite setup. Stripped but not so stripped its useless.

    Good job!

@maxxracer: languages are deleted, but can be installed as needed. it's fully functional, so network and printing work normally.

    @introvert and icyroy05

@effex: copy paste the text into notepad, save it, and open it with nlite and feed it a cd. burn to a cdrw or cd and install

depending on what sata controller you have you can install the driver for that and you can tell it to use it as a standard driver or a boot up driver in the XP cd bootup process, ie; "Press F6 to install additional Storage Drivers"

if you normally have to use a floppy to install the SATA drivers then this will allow you to no longer use the floppy but you need to manually install it and manually tell it to use it as a bootup driver (it actually will give a pop-up asking what type of driver it is.)

i love nLite have been using it for a real long time and the crew over at the site only keeps making it better and better, and yes if they ever make it Vista compliant.. man what dream.

i have used it for 2000, XP Home and Pro, and Server 2003 installs.
all of which are lean and mean installs when im done.

too many people remove Windows update, i suggest you NOT do that, it removes any chances of you ever getting windows updates.
I have even manually installed Windows update V6 and it still wont work.
Windows update accessibility is a network/user security setting which cant be fixed by simply installing the Win Update V6 exe file.

go thru it step by step if you have never used it before. look at EVERYTHING!
there are little tweaks and things that can have a big impact.
and yes remove all keyboard layouts and languages you do not need. its just wasted space.
also be very mindful of the network stuff you jack with.
USB Polling. your ini lists 500... dont do that, its too much and doesnt play well with some wireless mice.

things like TCP Priority 1 and other little tweaks like that really help out.

One thing i have done, and its not good, and i cant figure out what it is, is that the last to rip's i did, and including the XS OS version, Is that when i go to shutdown or reboot my pc, it takes nearly 5 minutes for it to actually do anything.
it just sits and looks at you doing nothing.

my next nlite will be a totally stripped necessary items only install i really want to see what XP does.

Can anyone put up a stripped 2000 and 2003 server install that can be used for 24/7 purposes? Thanks.

sata drivers were untouched in this version, depends on the controller like you said.

    i don't use windows update

i'd love to see an nlite for vista, then it might actually be good haha.

i think you told it to clear the page file on shutdown.

    nah no clear page file.
because it did it on the XS OS version also.

i think it was Kill all idle service and apps those 3 or 4 tweaks.

i redid another nlite and left those along and it runs just fine now.
those are really the only shut down tweaks i mess with and leaving them alone work.

but honestly. it is nice to see a stripped version of XP.
and honestly you can make it as stripped as the PE disks are.

i have played with things such as removing the cab files or whatever it is,, it claims it speeds up the install process, i have not noticed anything different.

i also ALWAYS tell it my cdkey, time cone, keyboard layout, etc etc and it always wants my kb layout, time zone and occassionally it still wants my cd key but not often.

the silent installer works almsot perfect, but as for it being unattended? no there is stilla few things it wants.
username is another one i ahve had it randomly as me for.

i truly didnt notice too much with Win2k for speed and such..

Server 2k3 thats another story a stripped version of 2k3 is on my lappy and its balzing fast and of course has better memory management among other things.

i do believe the guys at nlite are working on vista so hopefully we can see some alpha or beta tests for that coming up.

on the vista note, has anyone been able to find out what the F10 install commands are ?
when you isntall Vista start nailing F10 at the "loading files" screen right when you boot to the dvd and you get a command promt and thats it,, tis a manual installation process but i have yet to see anything on what the commands are and if it allows for any optional components.
Vista is bloated beyond anything i have ever seen and sucks for overclocked systems.
it just brutalizes your cpu so badly. and is very ram intensive. i can do anything i want with my system right now and never have a problem even pi and prime,, but boot up vista and she always bails,, i have to lower my overclock.

to be honest with you. my 955 XE and 2 gigs of ram overclocke4d to 4.5ghz and a raptor is slower than Vista installed on my laptop with a 2.13ghz 60gig and 1.5gigs of slow ass ddrII.
oh and i have a 256meg 7800 gTX and an x700 on the laptop and the laptop still handles vista better and is faster.

M$ has a long ways to go before Vista is a feasable OS for the public,, so until then i will keep working with nlite to make XP as bloody fast as possible.

    p.s.

nlite XP is no faster for benching and gaming than the regular XP.
but it is faster for normal use.

    p.s. p.s.

    god i almost forgot.

if you do an nlite xp PLEASE for your own benefit use the programs on nlites website to integrate into the os. such as winrar, adobe, AVG, and a few others, along with the 100% MUST use RyanVM update pack.. jesus use that update pack. if you dont then your screwed and will be spending hours downloading and searching for the updates you need to keep XP up to date.
there is a new May Windows update roll-up autoinstaller that can be found at the usual places wink wink. i'd suggest using that after you instlal XP if you dont integrate RyanVM's update pack and if you ahve removed windows update.
