    Opty170 3.0GHz Vs. FX57 3.0GHz benches

Let the numbers speaks for themself

    Opteron 170 @ 3.0GHz Vs. FX57 @ 3.0GHz
300x10.0 , HTT x3.0 for both Opty and FX
Watercooling for CPU (Swiftech Storm + MCP655 + BIP II)
DFI LP UT nF4 SLI-DR Xpert
    2x1Gb , 250MHz @ 3.0-4-3-7-1T
    GeForce 7900GTX/7900GTX SLI - 650/1600
    Win XP Pro SP2 , FW 84.21WHQL

    3DMark's and Aquamark3 (ForceWare sett. : Highest performance ) :

The only games i found that benefit from from Dual Core (well ... may be Serious Sam 2 will too ) :

    Driver settings : High Quality , V.Sync=Off , AFx16 - forced , AA - appl. controlled , optimizations - off , Gamma Correct antialiasing - on , Transparrency AA - ON > Supersampling .

Very nice work Gorod I guess as long as people dont use SLI or CF(?) single core will still do fine for gaming

Glad u guys like it - spent all day testing , gues it's worth it afterall .
It's been boring , i've been getting same fps with no increase whatsoever in almost every game i have after switching to Dual Core , except ... those 3 lol : Doom3 , Quake4 and Call of Duty 2 and 3DMark's of course . Will try to find Serious Sam 2 soon , will probably have to order it online cause nobody seems to have it in stock . Too bad TES:Oblivion IV is way too GPU dependant , even with SLI , may be i'l try to lower details and see how it benefits from Dual Core .
Basicaly there are no VGA's on the market that can handle Oblivion IV with in game Maxed out graphics settings Not sure about 1900XTX CF though , looks like it may be the only one that can ...
Some benches i did a month ago to get an idea of how GPU limited that geme realy is :

    Opteron 170 @ 2800MHz , 1.45V , 280x10.0 , HTT x4.0
    CoolerMaster Hyper 6
    DFI LP UT nF4 SLI-DR , 623-3
    2x512Mb , 254MHz @ 2.0-2-2-5-1T , 3.3V
    Win XP Pro SP2 , Cat 6.3 / FW 84.21 WHQL

*Yellow are Min. FPS / other colors - Avg.*

If somebody wants to try my Demo i been using in Oblivion u can download my Save file here , place it here : C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves , set every single graphics setting in game Menu to MAX . , Load FRAPS , Load save , Don't move mouse or anything else !!! , press F11 to start fps logging and imediately press "Auto Run/walk" hot key , press F11 again when game character reaches the big rock ahead . Check your log file in FRAPS directory

    SIOUX
I guess as long as people dont use SLI or CF(?) single core will still do fine for gaming
That's so very true , high clocked Single core is the way to go for Single Card users ... except those few games that support Dualcores up to date .

It's actualy a very good idea m8 . Too bad i don't have a phase change unit right now to play with , hopefully may be in 2 weaks . I am sure high clocked FX57 will eat that Opty alive in most of the games like Battlefield2 , HL2 , F.E.A.R. , X3:Reunion , other words all the games that are not optimized for for Dualcore

Thanks for the results. There's a smaller difference than I expected in some instances.

Well you can always lower downclock the DC a bit

One remarkable thing is AM3 and 3dk01 doesn't benefit from SLI. In some cases the score is lower with SLI, which can mean the SLI stressing the CPU or maybe the usual deviation. So we can say AM3 and 3dk01 are 100% CPU dependant.

Thanks again, it's great someone takes so much work to show us forum users those numbers

Let's have a look at CPU scaling with 7900GTX SLI and see how much does it takes for a Dual Core Opty to catch up with 3.0GHz FX57

DFI LP UT nF4 SLI-DR Xpert
    2x1Gb , xxx MHz @ 3.0-4-3-7-1T
    GeForce 7900GTX SLI - 650/1600
    Win XP Pro SP2 , FW 84.21WHQL

    • FX57 @ 3.0GHz , 300x10.0 , HTT x3 , 250MHz @ 3.0-4-3-7-1T
    • 170 @ 3.0GHz , 300x10.0 , HTT x3 , 250MHz @ 3.0-4-3-7-1T
    • 170 @ 2.8GHz , 280x10.0 , HTT x4 , 254MHz @ 3.0-4-3-7-1T
    • 170 @ 2.6GHz , 260x10.0 , HTT x4 , 260MHz @ 3.0-4-3-7-1T
    • 170 @ 2.4GHz , 267x9.0 , HTT x4 , 266MHz @ 3.0-4-3-7-1T

The difference is really big in benchmarks. If u would put the 3D marks gained from overclocking the cpu in %, u would see higher numbers in 3d mark 06 I think. Eum, no maybe not, because the scale is different.
No time for calculating now :s

Anyone know if GRAW will be dual-core optomized?

I have an FX57 with X1900 CF and I mostly only play BF2 so upgrading to a dual-core Opty or FX60 isn't justified for barely an increase in FPS. However, I plan on playing GRAW quite a bit and curious to know if it will be dual-core optomized. The demo just released and hopefully someone with a dual core would be able to run a benchmark.

Does look like SLI helps but prices need to drop before the majority of us can afford it

    perfect mate.....
It's very helpful, I'm thinking to buy opteron 170 or newer cellphone.
I think it would be better if I buy cellphone.
    I am using athlon 64 3000+ clocked at 2.8ghz.
    DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ LLBWE 0541 TPMW 312.0MHz x 9 = 2.81GHz@1.6V w/ water cooling

Good point , no need for Dual Core unless u do a lot of multitasking or have SLI/CF system

This is all a little unfair on dual core isn't it? Sure it doesn't give you a huge fps gain, but if anyone was expecting that then they probably got it for the wrong reasons. You don't have to be multi-tasking to feel the power of DC around windows, and being able to minimize BF2 to open a web page and maybe put on some music is convenience I'd pay for again regardless of fps or overclocking. This might seem like stating the obvious, but you can't say 'for gaming use single core' because most people don't just use their computers for gaming, except the lucky few with more than one desktop.

Anyway great benches thanks. One last question, isn't it a bit short sighted to reccomend SC based purely on todays games? Considering all the dual code thats going to come out for 360 mulitplatform (AKA GRAW) I think dual core is probably going to help out quite a bit in the very near future. I also ran the Aegis physics demo 20fps faster when I enabled dual core, and given the amount of havok that next gen games are probably going to use... just my opinion I wouldn't reccomend single core to anyone anymore unless they only planned to keep it for about 3 months and were only going to instal BF2, nothing else

Oh and TES:Oblivion, has no-one noticed the benefits of tuning the .ini for dual core? I've got rid of a fair bit of stuttering by cranking up the multithreading. Not sure it'd come out in average fps, but it does improve the playability

not with single card in 3d05 , too GPU limited for that SLI takes full advantage from dual cores though
