crucial ballistex 2x1gb pc4000 settings help

Ok, this is my second set of them, not that the first set went bad. But both the first set and now my second set could not do over 270fsb stably. They always fail memtest86 test 5 at around 98%. Anyone know what settings to use? Also most poeple seem to get stable at 270+, why carnt mine? Am trying to find the max fsb of the ram, so the ht multi is 3x, cpu multi 6x.

Would this be the Z503 ballistix, that have a high percentage of sticks that decay somewhat rapidly?

For timings suggestions I'd skim through the screenshots found in the 2x1GB OC database:

If they are the 16TD1 revision sticks I have had no problem with my replacement sticks.
I am running everything set to auto, 1:1 @ 285MHz.
Give it a burl, just make sure you keep the volts down unless you have good cooling over your ram, otherwise it just hampers the OC.

this is what it says on the box ******4Z503.16TD

Is it the 16TD bit? Can you give me the settings to get it up to 285mhz please, such as a A64 tweaker screenshot and also what voltage. Thanx m8

These are kinda tight, but should be able to get you to 280 or more with good sticks and a good memory controller with 2.7v or less.

These next set of timings are good for 300mhz and above, or good for under 300mhz if you're sticks are somewhat subpar.

He said everything was at auto...make sure you have ACTIVE cooling on your ram.

These settings should be fine for all PC4000 Ballistix. .16TD and .16TD1 are only minor pcb revisions, same chips, so same timings/settings work for both.

The only things I found different between my two ballistix kits were the drive strengths they liked. My old .16TD's enjoyed 7/3 or 5/3, while my newer .16TD1 set won't even post with anything except AUTO/AUTO for drive strengths.

For volts, since you have .16TD's, I wouldn't go above 2.8 (actual voltage, 2.7 set in bios) as you will kill them in the long run.

I had problems when I set everything at once and then press "SET" , so I just adjust one value, press set, then another one, press "SET", and so on ...
with the second timings EnJoY posted you should be fine 280+ , good luck!

Auto/auto doesn't set anything not already in the options.. what do you get in a64 tweaker on auto? Maybe they like normal? or lower drive strengths, like 3, my hz liked that

Little bit OT, but your HZ liked 3? I found that my ds was normal when set to auto, but only tried values 5~8, guess I will try lower. I settled for 5/3 :/

Yeah, changing the drive strength's doesn't gain me MHz at all, but if I find I'm unstable in games (freeze, CTD) drive/data strength is almost always the option to mess with to make it work. Usually if it's already stable in everything else, it's a matter of changing the data strength 1 up/down.

But 3 did work best, tried 5 and 7 and they'd crash no matter what data strength.. very cpu dependant though

mine are currently at 2.75volts. People say to keep it under 2.8 so they dont die too quickly. How quickly do they die?

If they live 6 months I will be amazed.
3 months or a bit less is usual story.
RMA direct to crucial, they have good customer service and will send you out some 16TD-1's hopefully.

If they don't pass at stock spec. PC4000@ 2.8 volts is what the specsheet says. If it doesn't pass tests at that speed, you're able to get a return, to my knowledge.

purchase a kit of these was one of my possibilities (there are some here and there... ) but I'm earing lots of stories of this memory "dying"... How can be possible that "best gb modules in the world" are so fragile????

These next set of timings are good for 300mhz and above, or good for under 300mhz if you're sticks are somewhat subpar.

Are all these settings to get me up to 280 and 300, or can they get me up to those speeds stably? Because a64 tweaker on clicks in when windows loads, that means the mem wont pass memtest
