OK, in a heavy oblivion session it peaked at 83c... not great. Contact is definately great as the heatsink is very hot and I was careful. I wonder how much better the cooler would perform with a quiet 120mm fan blowing air accross the copper fins... I think this would make a huge difference personally.

I put the accelero back on and used some thin flexible plexiglass and created a little duct and inserted a slot fan. Most of the hot air is now being vented out of the case. Idle temps are at 40C and load after 2 hours of quake 4 on ultra settings was 57C. Highest the chipset got was 41C. These are the best numbers I have gotten the entire time I have been trying vf900 vs. accelero vs. stock cooler.

Excellent work man, can you provide some detailed pics of the mod?

I should make some excel sheet and collect all the vf900 data in there, i'm kinda losing the overview. My results have been really bad atleast, tested with 2 different VF900's.

Something still has been puzzling me for quite some time now, I always see this on the posts people make about their cooling results:

    Core temp / Vreg temp
    high temp / high temp
    low temp / low temp

    I have yet to see:

    Core temp / Vreg temp
    high temp / low temp
    low temp / high temp

You can see the relationship really well when someone compared it against their stock cooler or another cooling solution. I would've assumed like everyone else, before i had this problem, that it should be unrelated from each other, especially since the VF900 is a product that was built for the core only. Expecting to see a low core temp and a high vReg temp, but so far it hasnt happened.

I dont' think the vf900 meets all of the hype. I installed it on my system using as5 and then using my favorite shin etsu tim and the core temp was 16 degrees hotter under load than the stock cooler.

Ye, I think I'm going to sell mine and get an Accelero X2 or that new V1F thing.

Just an update. Stock X1800XT cooler performs better than VF900-Cu w/AS Ceramique. I don't care about the noise anymore tbh. I'm just glad my vid card at 700/800 load's in the 60*C range

I would think the biggest advantage of the Zalman over the AC would be when using a different fan. Putting a 100-190cfm fan on the zalman would have to yield better results than putting any other fan on or near the AC, just the way it's built. I would like to see how the 900 does with a good fan, since I know the difference a real fan (Delta EHE) makes on my 700.

    60dB FTW!!!!

Same here for the X2. As long as i keep volts at stock it does a couple degrees better but when i change volts it cools worse then stock, even at 100%.

I'm making the review of the vf900-Cu right now.

All done except mounting, testing and conclusion.

What programs will you guys would recomend to test idle and load temps ?

3dmark? atitool ? Any suggestions would be appreciated

    thks guys!

Scanning for artifacts in atitool gets me card hotter then any benchmark/game i tried. Please use volts hgher then stock in your testing, would like to know how the VF900 handles them...

Nvidia, I would recommend it use on GT card

ATI 1900XT(X)/NVidia 7900GTX are too hot and it also reflected from their super huge size stock cooler.

I would suggest Thermal right V1 ultra and Accelero cooler for those high end cards.

Interesting, I was considering the VF900 for my X1800 XT 256 till I read posts similar to yours. I already modded my stock heatsink (removed the fan & cover) with a homemade blower-type 92mm fan that sucks air through the stock heatsink and out the back. The stock heatsink is a bit too small though and it partially chokes the fan thus reducing airflow. Yet it's still a lot more quiet than the stock fan and gpu load temps in Oblivion settle around 55 degrees, idles at 40 as opposed to 60-65 @100%. This is with gpu at 688 @ 1.325V and the mem at 788 @ 2.085V - overclocking via Ati Tool. Ambient room temp is around 22-23 degrees.

Next step will be to search for some real blower type fans. I really wish the aftermarket heatsinks/fans for the X1xxx series would exhaust the air out the back like the stocker.

Mines 700/800, 1.35v (stock 3D) and 2.097v (ati tool stock)

Rock solid stable, so I'm happy.

Yeah, I don't think you can beat the stock X1K cooler feature wise.

I have to agree with you guys, the stock cooler on the 1800/1900 series is really well designed, ok, it has an issue with fan noise. Once dismantled, it becomes obvious how much the design has been refined to allow for an optimal removal of heat from the core gpu to outside the pc case. Modding the stock solution is not easy without spending serious amounts of time ensuring that the initial function stays intact.

Waiting to get my hands on a camera. Not much really to look at. Just a thin sheet of soft plexy that goes from the bottom of the accelero to the slot fan to change the direction of the airflow.

I didn't take any screen shots of it, but before I put the cooler on yesterday, my card was running at 539/800 47C, with case temps of 31C. Put the cooler on, ran it some more (a couple quick 3dmark runs), card auto-detected a bit higher at 547/800 38C, same case temps of 31C.

I haven't vmodded the card yet, so I'm sure it'll go up a bit..... I'll have more time tomorrow to measure loaded temps.

But I have to say that so far, it seems to be cooler and it's definitely quieter.

    hmmm

    I installed an Accelero2 on my X1900XT.

    701/802 1.52/2.151/2.151/1.50V 100% fan

    Stock 42C Idle, 79C load

    AC2 40C Idle, 69C load

Combined with near silence at 100% fan speed, it's a winner for me.

Add me to the vf900cu is crap brigade!

Just fitted mine to my x1800xt with some as5, idle temps are better around 8c down to 42c load temps are just as crap as before, peaked at 71c in a quick 3d06 run (2 minutes lol).
Think i will put the stock cooler back on as the heat coming off the vf900 i dont want inside my case to be honest, at least the stock cooler blows the air out the case!!

Right now its scanning for artifacts in ati tool , i havent disabled the 2d/3d profile thing so its only scanning at 2d clock speeds and voltages and is hovering at 68c!!

A quick question, it is probably me being stupid but... the vf 900 is a heatpipe cooler which works by having the pipes at the heatsink base with liquid in so the liquid is close to the core heats up travels as gas/vapor whatever you call it to the top of the heatsink/pipes were it cools down and travels back to the base as liquid.
My point is that the vf900 is upside down so wont the liquid be at the ends of the pipes in the first place and not by the core??

Or is there something i am missing?

Hi, Pancake, I was getting 75-76C in my X1900XT@VF900Cu, Now I get 63-64C with my AcceleroX2.

You can just sell the VF900Cu through ebay and try AcceleroX2. It is more quiet than Stock fan and even VF900Cu.
