    Conroe sup Intel 975XBX rev

Revision 304 will add Conroe support to the Intel 975XBX board. It adds 10 resistors and 2 capacitors.
This is definate information, not speculation. Suppliers are given a date of April 16 to begin recieving the new revision.

But is it the same board layout? Maybe we can vmod our boards to support conroe?

if anyone gets one i NEED it.

    (1) so that I can run my Conroe
    (2) so that I can develop a mod for earlier revision 975X board
    (3) so that a "universal" mod can be made for all 975 boards

That Albatron board doesn't run Conroe either?? That sucks. You might just want to call some retailers and see if they have them/are selling them yet. According to that memo, they should have them/be receiving them as of this past Sat....assuming Intel didn't get back-tracked on them.

Lightbulb Note to All And Sundry!

There's a post in this thread regarding ordering the 304 revision boards (I'm ordering one to throw an E6600 in). Apparently orders started being accepted (from the channel) as of *yesterday*. I was originally thinking in terms of a standard P-D, but with the performance of Conroe pretty much confirmed, I figure I'll order a 304 now, since the E6600 won't be available until June at the earliest (that way I can get my processor as a birthday present).

You haven't explicitly said one way or the other that I've seen, but can you confirm whether your Conroe does or doesn't work on the Albatron board please?

Apparently it doesn`t for some reasons - otherwise there would be a thread on Conroe testing already.

Even if it does, it uses different mosfets, so it might not be as easy to use as a template for a mob.

a MOSFET is a source, drain and collector. they swap leg for leg. makes no difference in a mod. the only thing that needs to be set is the phase controller for the PWMs.

This board is the only one that has 7-bit VID capable voltage regulator which is required for Conroe -- ADP3189.

Old VRD 10.1 requred 12.5mV steps, new VRD 11 requires 6.25mV steps. Old VRMs are 6-bit, this one is 7-bit. No other manufacturer has them so far.

VRM 10.x spec is 7-bit VID, VRM 11 spec is 8-bit VID....

looking at the datasheet now to develop a mod...i saw this earlier but from some reason it just didn't click...

What I meant to say is that the current 975 boards from other manufacturers are equipped with 6-bit VID so it won't be possible to mod those because BIOS needs to be aware of that too and you need one more pin on the socket.

I hope other mfg's do not do what intel is doing and just make a board revision.
Otherwise getting a motherboard for conroe is going to be a pain if you have to try to get a certain revision rather than just a certain model number.

    More (unfortunately bad!) info:

    Asus P5WD2-E rev. 1,02G, ADP3181
    Foxconn 975X7AA, ISL6566

I don't have Gigabyte at hand so if anyone can check...

Asus P5WD2-E rev 1.03 is on the way. Confirmed. Probably changes the PWM buck controller to a new VRM 11 compliant component with 8-bit VID control.

This is turning out to be the most incompetent Conroe release I have ever seen out of Intel, Period. How do you order a MB with a simple revision? Retailers will not know what you are talking about. Unless the old revision is recalled and retailers are told to no longer sell it, it's a crap shoot to get one.

"I like to order a Intel 975XBX board please? Answer, certainly sir, that will be $xxx.xx with shipping! Ok, before you ship it I like someone in your warehouse to check for revision 304. It won't say so on the box, He/She will have to open the box, remove the static bag and look on the surface of the MB itself it should tell you which revision it is. Answer, Sir we have 100s of these boards I have no way of knowing which board houses which revision, opening the box alter its new appearance will taint its value and its like finding a needle in a haystack. My response, well if you be more careful and put more men on it I'm sure you will fine one by end of day...I really, really, really need this revision for this board. Answer, "

    End of story!

Revision is located on a sticker on the side of the box. You want: "AAD27094-304"

At first glance someone might see AAD27094-302 and think they have the right board....

Not much you can do about this.

wow, It reminds me of an old old Star Trek episode, being asked on away mission by Cap. Kirk accompanied by Spock & McCoy and Ensign "Tag along" we all know what will happen to Ensign...

In other words its a crap shoot unless a reseller on this forum "hint hint" does his homework and orders them up, selling them at a reasonable price.

Looks like Motherboard makers will have to put

Looks like motherboard makers will have to put a conroe sticker on the new boards, if you really don't need crossfire or sli, then a 965 chipset board will be the safest bet to get a conroe compatible board.
