Negative pings on dual core X2/Opty's?

Hey guys.... this is a weird one:

I did some more digging and came up with some threads about it:
    http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,15398295
    http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34151
    http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=4978&st=80

has anyone else had this bug or figured out a workaround? For me, a reboot clears up the bug for awhile (1-4 hours) but then it comes back. I heard its solved in Vista but I am waiting for the Feb CTP release to install that. I already tried switching between the onboard NV enet and the Marvell Yukon on my DFI expert. I am using the latest drivers, patches etc.

The weird part is that if I set the process affinity to core#1, the problem disappears. This is confirmed by other people as well. Here's a screenshot from PingPlotter, you can see in the beginning, at the bottom all the blank area, those are negative pings. Then you can see where I set the affinity, the pings returned to normal....

hummm............ I had the same problem and couldnt figure out what the problem was .it only happens if you have a dual core. the fix by GAR here--> http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=81429 helped a lot the Ping issue but I remember that with my old 3200 I always had a low ping number while playing online. on the other hand everything else works so smooth that I will stay dual core for ever! never going to single core again!

That AMD hotfix works great omega...

Could this negative pinging be the reason my friend keeps getting an AIM error after leaving it idle for a few hours? He has an opteron 165.

Great timing on this thread. My bosses X2 system at work has the same issue and I had no idea how to fix it.

I had the problem.. also in Counter-strike I got speedhack. Emptyed a full M4A1 clip in 2sec .. suddenly I was having a blast using the para

One more bug I had, was that when I started quickpar, winamp and mIRC would hang until it was finished. All other programs ran just fine.

I installed the patches and followed the guide here on XS. Still the same bugs. Then... after a few weeks, when I had gotten used to the bugs or gone around them with set affinity, suddenly everything was working the way it should.
