Sapphire HD 5850 @1GHz/1.3GHz (1.25v)
GSkill ECO 4GB PC3-12800 @1.33GHz 6-6-6-20 1T (1.34v)
So after seeing the ASUS A8V deluxe was a POS I stuck the Opteron 170 into my other computer
it has
MSI NEO2 Plat MB
1gb Corsair 3200 XL 2-2-2-5 memory
antec NEO power 480
I was able to find my
Max HTT 370
Max CPU 2.75
Max Memory 290
so I ended up setting it up as follows
CPU Voltage 1.4v
3HT x 275 HTT = 825
1:1, 200, DDR400 = 275 (DDR550)
multimpler 10x x 275 HTT = 2750 mhz
Works fine. I would like to mention that the temeratures at stock values were 34 idle and 46 load (3.75v)
While overclocked they sored from 36 idle to 55 load.
Would this be causing my MAX cpu barier?

Got sick of temps, I had to do it.
Load went down like ~5C, at least with high ambient (75F). Was loading around 40C, and it's sitting @ 36C (dual folding, not prime, havn't set prime yet). I'll post more results when I have the time, gotta leave shortly, just thought I'd update.

Removing the IHS always takes way longer for me. I never understood how people got it in like, 2 mins. I always take a good half hour to get it done.Originally Posted by Delirious

She's safe and sound now though, and I'm trying for 2.8GHz on stock voltage. I'll leave it go when I leave in the next 20 mins or so.
If mine clocked as nicely as yours i would have taken longer i think.
Its mostly cause those shaving blades cut through the silicone so effortlessly its easy to be careful and still get it done quick.

Came home, still priming. I'll consider it "golden" if it keeps going.

"You Won eBay Item: New AMD Opteron 170 CPU CCB1E 0550VPMW Retail Box"
sitting in my inbox. heh.. my wife is going to kill me.. it was 7hundy.. but worth it.
more info from the ebay selling portal
"This is my very last one of this stepping. I have no way to get any more after this, so that's why the price is so high.
This auction is for 1 Opteron 170 2.0Ghz Socket 939 processor with two cores, each with 1MB cache. The Opteron 170 is 64/32-Bit compatable, Socket 939 w/Hypertransport technology. This Retail box processor is new in box and comes with copper pipe heatsink/fan. 3 year warranty.
There are a few green flakes loose in the case, which is common in these CPUs because of the heavy heatsink/fan unit chipping away at the foam that houses the fan and CPU on the inside of the box. The CPU itself is enclosed in plastic and is not affected by loose foam pieces. This box has never been opened, even though the seal has been broken on the box.
Worldwide shipping available! Prices below. Insurance free on orders outside of the US!
Stepping is CCB1E 0550VPMW
Batch is 0362
I sold a CCB1E 0550VPMW Batch 0290 a few weeks ago and here are the record-setting results. Note that the performance screenshots are NOT from this CPU, but one that is from the same stepping. This CPU is new and unopened shown in the last three pictures.
Setup for the performance screenshots (3473.7 Mhz!!):
CPU: Opteron 170 CCB1E 0550VPMW batch 0290
Motherboard: DFI NF4 Ultra-D (704-2BTA bios version)
Custom Watercooling: MCP600 pump, Danger Den TDX block, 120.2 heatercore.IHS on the chip has NOT been removed, and the ambient temperatures were very normal (67f).

Yeah, $700 is entirely too steep considering how well the new steppings are doing. Oh, and btw, I opened the windows to drop temps down to about 70F from 75+, and now I'm loading at 34C!And I'm still on a single 120mm rad....this chip is going to love my dual rad. And for $280, this chip kicks total ass.
Sounds a bit fishy, why would you break the seal for no reason? Don't forget to give us results.Originally Posted by revenant

I figured this might be the last chance to get a vpmw 170.. so I pulled the trigger.. I guess it's possible something is fishy with the "never been opened but the seal is broken" bit, but there's chance in everything.. I guess I might be a little too trusting, but I think/hope things will be fine with it. The selller has great feedback

Anyways.. I will be sure to report back when I get the chip, but I am with my folks tending to my mother who is very sick ATM, so it might be a little while..

For some reason prime95 crashes within seconds even at stock. Same thing happened on this system with my old Winchester 3200 and a San Diego 3700, no idea why. Otherwise it appears to be completely stable.

Anybody know what the lowest voltage a good 165 chip can do at stock speed? My voltage doesn't go low enough to test, but I got it prime stable at 2.1 GHz 1.175V.
and the FX-60 is fully unlocked.not sure on the vcore question

Now at what I assume to be 24/7 stable. 311*9 1.612v (1.57 in CPU-z/MBM5/SmartGuardian/BIOS, 1.550+104%), 4x LDT (I'll try 5x in a sec). I'm gonna start playing around with my BH-5 next and see what I can do with that until I get my Gskill HZ. It ran 1024-4096 in-place dual prime for 1 hour, that's not a complete cycle of the test but it's still suitable for 24/7 use. When I get time I'll run it much longer. Looks like I missed out on the 170 0550VPMW craze, but the new steppings look nice, so when I get around to it I'll sell this thing and try one of these new chips out.
EDIT: Screenies coming later or whenever I can be bothered.
I cracked it!
On the ASUS A8N-E disabling floppy support cripples the board oc capabilities.
Enabled it, boom 280x9 stock voltage no problemo. Will see how high I can getSuddenly I feel so much better about this chip.

I was using my computer as normal, and had spent a few hours running Far Cry. Previously, I had spent 2-3 hrs doing research on the internet. Anyway, my friends and I were going out for supper, so I shut computer down.Originally Posted by ChkDsk

So there you have it. I wasn't stress testing it, pushing big volts through it or anything. If I owned one of these power supplies, I would be quite vigilant in monitoring voltages, etc.
The technician at the computer store told me that this was the 4th Enermax Liberty PSU to come in this week, and they all seemed to fail from an overvoltage condition.
I just got my system up and running about an hour ago, and it will probably take me until Monday to do an initial overclock.
I'll let everyone know how the new system is working soon.
