Haha cool you guys found out that heatsink factory had them? I went to several stores and just typed in vf900 and looked to see if any returned results...this one did.

Got mine about a week ago now I guess...There were like 19 or 20 in-stock at the time I bought.

I may order a VF900 soon, the stock ATi cooler is the loudest part in my system.

Am I missing something or can you not see/read/posted wrong link? The vf900 is either equal to or only 1*c better than the sytrin whatever thingy in the link you posted. Plus the vf900 is $50 while the sytrin is around $15 less.

I'm thinking about getting 2 Zalman VF900's for 2x7800GT cards, but seeing this picture it makes me wonder if the lower card will 'trouble' the upper Zalman cooler:
    http://www.ocia.net/reviews/vf900/pic21.jpg

The reason I'm a bit concerned is the 'nuts' that come with the cooler, you use them with the springs on the back of the card, they seem so high that they might block the fan from the upper Zalman cooler...

Can anyone with a DFI SLI-DR (not the Expert or Venus version) please tell me (if you have those VF900 coolers of course) if this is going to fit?

IF it fits, then it's going to be tight I guess...

Friend: Do you have a spare PSU lying around?
    Me: No why?
Friend: My PSU just blew up, I think the second 8800GTX might have been too much for it to handle
Me: what PSU was that again?
    Friend: Antec 480w

It's a snug fit. With that much of a restricted air flow, buying such a good cooler is almost worthless. However, the bottom card would run great.

IMHO, don't buy these to run in SLI.

Can anyone, who has the vf900, please report back their motherboard and cpu temps? The review listed earlier shows a 3 celsius rise for cpu temps, over the stock cooler.

The stock cooler is noisy, and does run the 1900's hotter than the vf900, but it manages to keep cpu temps and motherboard temps lower, by exausting the hot air thru the pci slot. Fot those of us with overclocked cpu's on air, this is something to consider, I'm not knocking the performance of these new coolers on the graphics cards, it's just that under load, that 60 celsius air would be blowing around in the case, unless someone can prove otherwise.......

My CPU and Board temps are unchanged with the VF900-Cu. I have very good airflow and cooling in my case, a case that doesn't cool well or have proper airflow will benefit from a cooler that exhausts the air directly.

Just as I thought, not every case has good removal of heat from the pci socket area, I have read that at least one person had some major problems using the accelero 2 in place of the stock cooler (it was being used properly btw), eventually the graphics card died, so caution is advised rather than excitment.

Well i have the VF900 for a week now and it isnt working out as it should. I'm getting some very uncomfortable temps, which i'll spam below. I do suspect the airflow in my system, because it lacks a front or side case fan. This is something i am changing this weekend, so if anyone has a good suggestion for a case then i'm all ears. I'm leaning towards a coolermaster case of some sort. Currently the inside of my case is tidy when it comes to cabling so no airflow obstruction of any kind.

Last but not least, i took some risk with the temperatures during my testing, it seems that atleast my card is able to work under some very high degrees. However, i'm not attempting these kinds of degrees again!

Here we see the temps when the card is idling in 2D mode.

Wow, that's a heater! Just to see how much your case temps are affecting the cooler, try taking off the side panel and maybe pointing a fan in there.

At first the temps didn't seem have bad when they were in the 60 degree range but then it jumped up to late 80s! Is that still with only 1.40v on the core? you should get much higher than that. The absolute highest I have ever seen on my X2 was 77c but that in a 30+c ambient temp with artifact scanning running for 2 hours. Still hot but not as bad. At 1.40v, 685/756 clocks I get about 68c under load when gaming. I do have a 120mm side panel fan however and a front intake fan on low.

Well i am just back from work and i thought to myself, i need a better case no matter what might seem to be the problem in the end. So i got myself a Coolermaster Stacker CM 830 and an extra 120mm fan that i will place on the side that is closest to the videocard.

I will also be refitting the vf900 to the card as i am moving all my hardware to the new chassis. Maybe the grease (artic silver) is not properly spread.

I wish you the best of luck. I have heard mixed reports on the VF900 on the X1900 series card but most differences are minor and are still in the very good cooling area. None are much over the 70c mark. I hope things get worked out for you. I hate when things don't work on my system so I am sure it is the same for you.

Again, please verify, those late 80's temps were with only 1.4v?

Yup all but the idle tests are done with 1.4volt.

I love my new stacker, btw. Even bought a 120mm fan for it that is blowing right in the path of the vf900. I still get high temperatures and i'm wondering if it is actually giving me correct values or not.

This is now the 3rd time that i removed the cooler and reinstalled it, just to make sure all is okay. Maybe i should use the zalman stuff between the core and the cooler and not the artic silver. I don't know anymore.

I used Ceramique personally on my Accelero X2. I get about 68c max when running 3D. The highest I have seen is 77c with the door closed and ambient temps of 30+c. The X2 is dead silent too which is great. I have ZERO issues with crashes, blue screens, black screens etc since I installed the X2.

I've been thinking, could i have a badly constructed VF900? Maybe the heatpipe does not have the gas that makes this thing work? Or maybe the heatpipe is ruptured somewhere i can't see?

My goal is to get the same temps you have and i'm not stopping until i do.

    Edit:
    Hmm.. interesting article:
    http://www.heatsink-guide.com/conten...eatpipes.shtml

I wonder what type is being used in the zalman vf900. Could be gas, could be water, could be metals.

Ok Guys I have been super busy, but I can tell you the Sytrin works. And I think you can use in CF/SLI rigs. There is enought room on my DFI Ultra-D from what I can tell. ATI Tool reports temps under 60C at 1.50 Volts on my X1800XT. Its a little tricky to mount. Soon I have a full review.

Can someone give me his Voltage Regulator temps under heavy load? Thanks in advance!

Well, I got my VF900, and it got spanked around by my zalman fs-v7 fatal1ty. About 10C worse during a loop of GT3 of 3d05. From what I could see, heat transfer to the fins was quite good (I touched it, and it was damn hot), but it could not dump the heat fast enough.

This was on the top card of a 7800gtx sli in a DFI expert mobo... duno how it compares in an unconfined space but I am back on the fs-v7
I had the fastest 32M Opteron time for about 1/2 day, and I'm damn proud of it

that guy seems to have really bad results from the VF 900...
he's so mad about it, that hes ready to basically sell it for half price to just get rid of it.

seems the VF 900 for the X1900 series, isn't recommended.
glad I stuck with my Accelero X2 for this card, cause its cheap and definatly better then the Stock cooler.

Couldn't agree with you more Kunaak. Dead silent too.

Just wondering what your max running overclock is on your X1900 with the X2. What volts to achieve that too please? My X2 is about as broken in as it is going to get so I am just trying to finalize my max OC to maintain stability and still below 75c.

710/855 is my max with the X2 on there.
my game speed is 690/800. the highest the CCC allows me to go.

    stock voltages.
I don't want to increase the voltages at all, these cards run too hot already for air.

I agree, I am overclocking using ATItool and have volts set to 1.400v when under load. With that voltage amount I can do 685mhz max on the core, anything more and I get a vpu recover to a black screen when under load. Of course I can go higher with more volts but I want to avoid that. I currently have my ram running at 783 with same volts and it is playing just fine. If I can't go higher on the core without more volts I am going to see just how much higher I can get on the memory. My scores across the board with 685/783 using ATItool are by far higher than I was getting with 1.425v and 689/792 via CCC overdrive so I am impressed. I idle around 42-44c depending on ambient temps at the time in the room. Playing CS:S I barely hit late 60's but that game isn't too demanding on the video card. I looped 3DMark06 this morning and temps were at 71c max so I am happy. I hope in the hot summer months my card will never go much about the 75c range as I find this a very stable and safe temp to be running at. It is still within the yellow coloured area in the CCC overdrive temp meter.

I appreciate your response Kunaak. I am unsure if it is worth it but I am really wanting to try out those Microcool Microsinks on the Vreg's to see how they lower temps especially since some air is exhausted out of the back of the X2 right over this area. I have a 120mm panaflo medium running at 5v via my Vantec Nexus over the card too. I hope these will bring the temps of the vreg's down a bit to supply cleaner power to the card. I get around 71c on the vregs right now. Canada doesn't seem to have these around though. They do come with thermal tape correct?

This card has a lot left in it but temps are just too high to play with voltage anymore.
