DelRez Gets a Blinged Out Brother

Heh, this part is just simply gorgeous if I don't say so myself! Made these on a whim, just picked them up from the machinist yesterday. Actually I just took one, the other 3 are being properly polished on the inside, you will see this one is not... This part was made and designed by me, you can refer to this thread for details: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=88333

This part here is made from a solid cylindrical 3" diameter piece of CAST Acrylic. The piece is solid, nothing is glued together, barbs, plugs and fill glass are all o-ring sealed. Thread size is G 1/4" (BSPP Parallel thread). Enjoy, and just imaging the inside polished.

Please don't ask for this, it is acrylic and needs to be tested for integrity. Any beta testers around?

    Ready for the bling?

I'll beta test it Looks nice, I was considering doing 1 piece acrylic stuff also with no joints and such. That take up 3 bays?

2 Bays if mounted in the bay mount. What is shown here is the top mount, to be mounted in the roof of the case.

Hmm you've introduced small cracks to it by machining it. Hopefully it will hold together. Other than that, looks great.

Hence why it needs to be tested...

I actually think it will hold up. Tensil strength and machinability are very good with cast acrylic.

hmm. well if it wont get any microcracks where the holes were drilled and it keeps from cracking (elsewhere), this could be a very nice res.

Why not get either acrylic barbs or just bond in acrylic tubes to avoid that problem?

If you have a cooling question or concern feel free to contact me.

Hmm was thinking since some cases have two PSU slots, maybe you can make a holder adapter for that empty spot. I know the UFO has two places for PSU. That way some people can save their 5.25 slots and still have easy access the the res.

What problem? The barbs are not a problem, it is a parallel thread, there is no stress whatsoever in the barb areas. Drill hole, tap.

Oh just checking. I was addressing max's concern. I prefer completely solid items thru solvent use.

Best trick to any acrylic part is to just not tighten too much or put too much stress on any joints. That's the #1 reason ppl get leaks IMO.

I would love to be a tester for ya.

How long would the testing be for? I will be attending a 500 person LAN in April, and would gladly drop your name and contact info.

I kinda like this design over the delrin ones, as the "glow" would be seen through the entire case, not just from the view window. Also, with it being the unfinished look left by the tooling marks, it will give the effect of frost, rather than all the generic plain-Jane clear glued-together ones.

    Let me know!!!

Yeah, that's a good idea especially for U2's and Lian-Li's.

Me too but they are the only o-ring sealed G 1/4" barbs around, unless you know of some others?? My machinist rekons he can make some killer stainless ones, gonna see to that.

    VERY nice piece there.....
Those barbs work well and although they look like pooh, they should flow well and hold the tubing sufficently.

How is the finish on the interior of the cylinder? Could it possibly be polished up a bit to make it clear again?

They are 1/2", the THREAD is G 1/4" which is a 1/2" hole (with threads).

Those barbs totaly suck. I just bought an A64 top for my RBX (for testing) and it has the new fittings.. All I can say is that they suck hardcore. Their old fittings were not the best, but if they would be slightly larger ID/OD they would be a bit snugger on 1/2" tubing and would be perfect.
