    Well, I've tried many RAMdisks actually, even super expensive (and fast) ones, and other people have too. In all cases it didn't help for superpi at all, it only made the results less than 0.1s worse to be exact.

    So Kyoses uses it as a tradition, or he has some special trick. The latest I highly doubt, because I tried like anything.

    hmm, well if you can get at least 2.7Ghz on such board then maybe it is not that bad after all. How much does it cost?

    EDIT:

    Found one here for 28K Yen, ~$240...oh well

    Don't worry - if they have a trick they are eventually sharing it. That what makes some of these legends even more special - they do share their talent and knowledge with the rest of the OC community. Just like Hipro5, Shamino ( and many others ) the Japanese OC gang are incredibly open on what they discover.

    Thanks to this we have the now famed "Kyosen mod"

    Kyosen is especially open...just look at his 3DMark run, he gives the LOD levels for each individual test. I have yet to see any other bencher be so open and so detailed...true class

    2nd updates

    If you can understand japanese language, check the URL below:
    http://www.oohashi.jp/c-board/c-boar...ne;no=4282;id=

    > > What PCI freq you have at 213fsb? 35.5 or 42.6?
    > --
    > I've not yet checked it, but I think that PCI clock is fixed at 33.3MHz...
    > I'll check it later by PC Geiger/RD2 PCI Bus Analyzer.
    --
    PC Geiger shows 33.2MHz in any FSB, so PCI clock is fixed, it seems.
    <img src="http://222.151.185.113/c-board/file/945GT-SP_PC-Geiger-RD2.jpg">

    > what temp did the CPU hit... Idle as well as load...

    --
    I checked it with PC Wizard 2006 by Franck:
    31.5deg-C, at idle
    34.0deg-C, at 1CPU load(=1 SuperPI running)
    36.0deg-C, at 2CPU loads(=2 SuperPI running)
    Screenshots are uploaded on my BBS.

    And now, I've also modded Vdimm circuit
    I confirmed upto 2.4V...
    this mod needs cutting pattern on motherboards, though.
    <img src="http://222.151.185.113/c-board/file/945GT-SP_Vdimm-mod.jpg">
    Now CL3 setting is available for my system
    <img src="http://222.151.185.113/c-board/file/27.953s_Yonah_2157.85.png">

    And then,

    MAXMEM and RAMdisk are not main theme on this thread,
    so I don't want to describe details here, but I must say,
    "RAMdisk is effective for SuperPI, especially in 8M or above, I believe."
    And about MAXMEM, it's mainly used for RAMdisk now.
    You say "expensive"...mine is "free", i.e. the RAMdisk by free software.
    You can download it from the URL below:
    http://www.vector.co.jp/soft/winnt/h.../se108927.html
    Yes it's a japanese free software, but don't blame me...
    My usual setting is:
    <img src="http://222.151.185.113/c-board/file/ERAM_setting_usual.png">
    This setting gives 393216kB RAMdisk as Z: drive.
    The disk image area is derived from main memory,
    so we need to restrict amount of memory used for system,
    by MAXMEM description in boot.ini.

    In early times, MAXMEM itself was effective for SuperPI...
    ...yes SuperPI, but especially for SuperPI Japanese version.
    I don't know why it is so, but very effective on the system using Celeron.
    Now, for SuperPI mod1.4/1.5XS, MAXMEM itself has little effect, I think.

    Very nice work kyosen
    As usual you are a pioneer and showing us all in details.

    What a laugh when we saw many un-skilled OCer like comments
    They do not even understand that your modPI 1, 8M run may be slower by using Maxmem 600.
    Or, they simply cannot use proper English to express by themselves.

    I thought all RAMDISKS were software based apart from those add in cards from Gigabyte ?

    Very nice work Kyosen, I see this thread is going to give a lot of information on a lot of different combinations to a lot of people as well as being a competition so I have rated it 5 stars ( how come nobody else had up to now ? ).

    As this is a competition as well should Kyosens initial results not be posted on the first page Waus-mod ?

    Looking forward to some 3dmark2001 scores .. many thanks.

    Regards

    Andy

    I think we all have a lot to learn from Japan when it comes to Superpi

    Your comment on not being able to use proper English made me laugh, very nicely put and very funny ! We are glad you can speak English of course !

    Hi Dumo,

    > Any news with Aopen board kyosen?

    Hmm...I have no info about availability of AOpen i975Xa-YDG.

    All things that I know about i975Xa-YDG are:
    1. Vcore control chip: ISL6262
    2. Vdimm control chip: ISL6537
    3. PLL chip: RTM865-461
    These info are based on my quick look of "sample" board in Akiba,
    so they may vary in future...

    Anyway, if it is released, I'll also get it
