Is anybody running their Opteron IHSless with a XP90? If this 165 doesn't do 2.7 GHz in a week of burn in, I may have to start removing body parts.

I had mine runing lidless for a while..
I think I have a few shots lemme dig em up for ya..
I eventually gave up on the retention bracket totally and mounted bolt thrudesign and bolted str8 thru to the mobo back plate..

Cant find the pics of mounting bracket grinded, but basically it goes like this..

Take the black retention bracket holder thingiamabob, and itll have 4 little feet that will keep it almost 1/4 inch off the mobo, just take like a dremmel or somekind of grinding or cut off tool and take them about 3/4 of the way off, I took mine flat, then replace
Heres a shot of mine without any bracket at all, just using mount thru holes..

Sweet! I picked up a box cutter at my local grocery store for under a buck, plain old aluminum cutter which only reveals the tip of the razor blade, as shown behind my new opty

it worked wonders.. about 30 seconds and two passes around the chip... the depth of the blade can't reach the resistors, so cutting with confidence was much easier.
