    X1800XT or 7900GT??

    Hi guys,

    I would like to see which of the two cards would fellow members buy for max overclock/performance potential. Im currently leaning towards the 7900GT (which will be my first nvidia card since Geforce3 ) because of its lower power consumption and the chance tht in the near future someone will work out how to unleash the cores to GTX speeds.

    Any opinion will do, just need help in making the decision

    Here are the prices for both items, ive also included a 512MB X1800XT as it is cheaper than the 7900GT

    UK Sterling

    EN7900GT TOP/2DHT/256MB (Asus 520/720) £258.5
    X1800XT 256MB (Connect3D) £199.70
    X1800XT 512MB (Powercolor) £246.70

    Can anyone post me a link to power consumption of both cards?

    £234 for:
    * Memory: 256MB
    * Core Clock: 520MHz
    * Memory Clock: 1.5GHz
    * Pixel Pipelines: 24
    * HDTV Out
    * 2x DVI outputs
    * 1x DVI to VGA converter
    * HDTV adaptor
    * Star Ship Troopers

    I made a mental note of this but thought it was £199 inc vat, as the x1800gt is.

    Infact I was going to post the same question!

    What are the overclocking abilities of both cards on air/water?

    It is really amazing how that tiny stock cooler can keep it so cool and is not loud with the small fan.

    Cypress = warm ambient? 7900GT might be a better choice.

    Personally, I'd go with a X1800XT 256MB -> looks to be the best price for the money

    i think that the x1800xt is outdated, the new x1900xt is really nice but more expensive... cant u save some bucks and go for the x1900xt???

    at newegg the x1900xt is at $449 (sapphire), and the 7900gt is at only $309! wow... then, i would definitely go with the 7900gt, because of the lower price...

    BUT, i'm still looking on the net for a review of these new cards: gf 7900gt/gtx and x1900xt/xtx compared to the OLD ones, x1800xt and 7800gt/gtx... to see if that $449 for the x1900xt is really worth in a "price/performance" ratio... but havent found a review/comparion yet...

    7900 likes voltage and not cooling. 7900GT has OVP at 1.3v from what I've read. x1800xt likes cooling and you have watercooling. It also has software voltage control.

    Yeah Cyprus in the summer can equal to ambient temps above 40C in my case guaranteed, heehee

    Im feeling the general consensus is tht peeps are pulling towards the 7900GT because it is a new product while the X1800XT's have been out for a while. I havnt had an nVidia card for a while, so it would be cool to try one of them out. See for myself how nvidia are performing

    Foca,

    Hey welcome to the forums

    hope you have fun here
    im not realing looking to be buying the best of the best. Financially I havent been in a position to be able to justify spending such a large amount of money on a single gfx card. I would have to be really loaded to be able to do tht, heeehehe

    ive always bought the cheaper cards, and then hoped the community would provide me with a free ticket to the big dog cards

    I love XS for this

    Here thanxs to all for the other posts, keep em coming if you wish. I think im defo going to get the nvidia card, should i be prepeared to slay, or be slayed

    EN7900GT TOP/2DHT/256MB (Asus 520/720) £258.5
    X1800XT 256MB (Connect3D) £199.70
    Is there even a point to the thread, given this HUGE difference of more than 50 Pounds?

    Is the 7900GT that much better? In fact, it's worse at stock. X1800XT wins in both price and performance

    With OC, 7900GT may be better, but it's still 25% more expensive with at most 5% performance increase.

    I also have to decide between the GF7900GT and a X1800XT 512. I can get the NV for 290€ and the ATI for 340€. I wanna use air (supposably the Zalman) for cooling the card.

    What do ya think?

    I,m in the same position here, and really have no clue what to do.

    I wanna use the cards under DI, I know about the 1800XT,s coldbug although this can be disabled since its only a software glitch. and the 7900GT is also coldbug free.

    I,m only interested in benching, I like the 1800XT its a nice card to OC and improving the cooling really helps boosting your OC, unlike the 7900GT. But the 1800XT lacks in 3Dmark06 where the 7900GT beats the heck out of it.

    the x1800xt easily hits 850+ on good cooling no?

    850 on memory or core?..lol.. memory hit easy the 910mhz under water for the core it's a little bit more hard.. need say 800/909 and you have 12K under 3D05... But you need a real PSU for power the card when you OC like this.. my actual limit my core at 760/909 for the moment.. i wait better PSU for go higher..

    Now if plan to CF then, i know some driver will perhaps allow 2 x1800XT to work in CF soon without the use a mastercard ( not confirmed...)..
    But if you plan CF i can only tell you go for a X1900XT .. not the price begin to drop down for X1900 and x1800... anyway a X1800XT 512 is faster of a 7800GTX512mo with the PE bios (700/800), 3D05 and games . so i don't think you can really compare the 7900GT alone to the X1800XT.. But the 7900GT is a good choice for SLI..^
    But a good thing to know.. the ATI have better IQ in games ( texture filtering, AA).. it's close, but all owner of 7800GTX and 7900GTX have switch for the X1900XT don't contest this..( and i was a fan of NVidia.)
