Albatron Ti4800SE Volt mod

Hi,

i bought a new albatron 4800se and want to make a Vmem mod and a Vgpu mod. I thought it would me the same mod like the albatron4200 or all the others GF4.

On the card are the following chips:

ISL6525 --> DDR Voltage
ISL6225 --> GPU Voltage

nice job man!
i tryed myself reding the whitepapers of the chips but did'nt want to try this on my card because i didn't know the value of the resistors i would have to take.
so for preventing missunderstandings, for the GPU i have to solder 50k Ohm variableresistior between pin 5 and 6. and than decrease the resistance.... do you have any point where i can look for the curent voltage whit a multimeter?
could you make any pics?

what frequencies did you achief with the mod?

I can't find where you're reading the voltages, I could use some help. I have what looks like a testbed on each side of the card but no + signs.

On the up side of the card, on the edge, near the VGA out. I see two points with a white box around it. It has a +
It measured 3.3 volts? is that the ddr voltage?

I need more details anything will help.
My gpu is lapped, active ram sinks, running 335/735 as is

I havn't done the mod yet. Was waiting to figure out where to check for voltages. I ordered two 50kOhm one turn variable resisitors. Yes I have a digital mulltimeter.
Pics will be cool, thanks. Once I find good values I want to switch over to fixed resistors.

It looks like the + leg of the capacitor runs through the pcb and makes contact with the test spot under the capacitor. I think I can just solder a test lead to the + leg of the cap.

You mentioned you started with 100k ohms for the memory.
Here you said:

I start with 100k for the memory right?

Is it safe to start with 50k ohms for the memory?

Albatron Ti-4800-v Medusa
On my card the test voltages under the cap and on the leg measure the same. Stock was 1.76 GPU and 2.9 DDR.

I used a 50K ohm vr for the gpu (pin 5 and 6 on sl6525cb).

Stock = 1.76
45K ohm = 1.79
38.5K ohm = 1.8
15.6K ohm = 1.85
10K ohm = 1.9

For the ddr (pin 1 and 10 on isl6225ca) I used a 200K ohm vr.
For pin 10 it’s easier to follow the trace and solder to the resistor next to it.

Stock = 2.9
180K ohm = 3.0
100K ohm = 3.1
79K ohm = 3.15
67.5K ohm = 3.2

Stock frequencies were 300/650
Out of the box (gpu lapped) it did 330/720 stable no artifacts.

I put a SK6+ on it, AS3 and a 36 cfm TMD fan. With the SK6 and stock voltage it does 340 core.

Now with your volt mod at 1.9 volts it does 370 Core.
To run it at 370 stable I have to bring the room temp down to 50-60 Degrees Farenheight. I've also messed around with a 50 cfm delta but that takes up 5 pci slots.

The memory didn't do as well. With 3.1 volts it does 740 no artifacts. 750 with 3.2 volts gets flakey so I just run it at 740.
Notice that 80mm fan on my ramsinks. I figured that would hook me up. I switched over to tweakmonster ramsinks as it didn't make a difference.

You had it cranked to 3.55 volts, isn't that abit dangerous?

The 2003 score is before the voltmod. I'll have to tweak everything some more and bench it again. I'll get this puppy in the 16000 club even if it kills me. hehe

what memory was that again? i wish my samsung 4ns could do 800 :p well ill just finish the watercooling for the bunch of 30W tecs i got and moiunt them on the memory and see where that+ a vmod gets me... from your expierience, what do you think is realistic to expect? 700? they do 600 without ramsinks, but with artifacts.

ill cut 2 of them into 4 pieces, and put them on the memory of my card, and ill cut the otgher block to cool my mosfets and other hot chips on my 8rda+

those heatsinks are 3.2cm high... i bet they make nice ramsinks

Lots of surface area on those heatsinks, tobad its alumininum and not copper.

In 2 weeks I'm going to pelt this card. A mcw50t, a blackice micro rad, and a 300 gph pump in a small closed loop. I just hope the blackice micro can cool the swifty. This will be my first water project.

i know, but actually i think alu is better for ramsinks than copper, because copper needs a lot of airflow to loose the heat again, alu takes heat quickly and just as quickly gives it away to the sorrounding air.

that black ice micro should do the job. what psu will you hook the pelt on? ill get a small car radiator that fits on the side of my case from a junk-yard and plug my innovatek wb to it. how high could you get with vmod and h20 only?

what det are you running? i just found out that the 42.51 gives me more points at the same speed + lets me clock the memory much higher! from 580 to 610 (with artifacts though )

That does make cense about the aluminum. I'm hoping the pelt can run off my antec 550, it pulls 80 watts at 7.5A. Swiftec recomends at least 20 amps on the 12v rail for system psu's. This antec has 24 amps, with everything else I'm running that cuts it close. If I knew last year what I know now I would have went with pc power and cooling.

Decided to get swiftech's mico rad as it has 1/2 inch inouts. hwlab's blackice micro uses 3/8 inch. 1/2 matches up with the mcw50-t. I've never ran water, running 43.51 currently, gonna try for 16,000 again tomarrow on air.

i tried the 43.51 as well, but i got better scores and could oc higher with 42.51.

I'm looking at the white papers for that ISL6225 chip. Anyone think vsen2 (pin19) will require modding. If that side of the chip is being used, would it mean only half of the ram is getting extra voltage with the current mod? I'll check the other capacitors with a mm.

ok got the s7 modded and it fits on the gpu just fine, but them stupid ramsinks keep falling off. this zalman termal adhesive sure sux

cool, whats the complete name of that stuff?

the zalman termal adhesive drys in 10min but its not really strong enough to keep my ramsinks on the board. i used some gum-glue now ^^ i tried it on some old edo ram first, doeswnt seem to damage the pcb.

it doesnt get hard though, the ramsinks are still movable, but at least they stay on the pcb

Sorry if im interupting I have just done the GPU vmod, but it dont give anything (well just a few Mhz) max erlier was 324 thru "lobby" in 2001 now maybe if i have xtreme luck il pass in 330 .Over that it just Frezze, i have the Window open so frech cold air coming in to the card. I have give the card som much as 1.9 i can just start in ex Nature in 340, then frezze Any tips, should i give it mor voltage What is the TOP MAX V for the GPU?

gabbax which card did you mod? The Asus V9280S?
Did you lap the core? arctic silver3? With stock cooling you're fighting heat, upping the voltage makes more.
The cooler on that card is huge, but it is made of aluminum. The hottest spot on the cooler has no fins, the fan gets in the way.
Is it cold outside? If it's 50-60F outside definitely open the window and see if it helps.

I realize that over 4 months have elapsed since this thread was active, but I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the volt-mod info. I have an Albatron Ti4680P Turbo, and it has the exact same ISL chips as the Ti4800SE. The measured resistances must be different, since the VR's on my video card are set a lot lower to achieve the same Vgpu and Vmem voltage, but it works just the same.

I especially wanted to thank Johnxp for the picture you posted of your completed volt mods. A picture is definitely worth a 1000 words. I hope you don't mind, but I copied your setup (gluing the 3-pin and 4-pin connectors to the card).

I just completed the mods last night. I have tested that varying the VR's does change the GPU and Memory voltage, but I did not have time to try overclocking the card with the mods.

Awesome, glad this thread was of help. Sadly I broke my card 2 months ago trying to upgrade it's cooling... I feel like such a noob lol.. I had to remove my ramsinks, so stupid me got out the pliers and tried to Twist the first one off...

I could of sworn it was twist, don't rock. After seeing that first chip off ram rip right off I was pretty pissed. Later I rocked the rest off with out a problem.

Was a great card, I'd still be using it if wasn't for that. Have fun overclocking.

Sorry to hear about your video card, but I guess that is a good excuse to upgrade.

Well, it appears that I may need to upgrade the cooling on my video card. I am currently using the stock retail cooling, although I did lap the GPU/heatsink and apply AS3.

I tried increasing the GPU voltage from 1.7 to 1.8 volts, and I was only able to increase the GPU speed from about 330 to 337 MHz. Above 337 MHz, I started getting screen freezes in 3dmark01.

I tried increasing the memory voltage from 2.8 to 3.0 volts, and I was not able to increase the memory speed at all. Above 675 MHz, the video card goes into some sort of shutdown/suspend mode. The monitor says that there is no video signal, and I have to reboot the computer.
